54 and 50

My in-laws were 58 and 60

AlexaShutUp · 15/05/2019 23:52

My paternal grandmother would have been 75. She was almost forty when my dad was born and I was the youngest of her 11 grandchildren. My dad's dad died before I was born.

My mum's mum was 60 when I was born, and her dad was 68.

We had 4 generations alive at the same time, my grandparents lived well into their 99s and only died last year. They met 2 GGrandsons but sadly didn't meet their Ggranddaughter who was born this year.

4 generations not unusual I wouldn't have thought? I had a great grandmother until I was about 13. My daughter still has a great grandmother at 16. Though admittedly the grandmother on that side died a few years ago. But there were 4 generations until then.

I have one friend with a photo of him together with his mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother!

mummypie17 · 16/05/2019 08:19

My mother was 64 and my father (if he was still alive) would have been 69. My mil was 68 and fil was 69

Mrsjayy · 16/05/2019 08:22

My Gran had a few great grandchildren before she died and she was 79 4 generations is common I think my Gran was married at 17 and babies followed soon after.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/05/2019 08:24

43 at first grandchild and my mum was 69 when the last grandchild was born, swiftly followed by first great grandchild. My dad had already died by then a didn't get to meet his last 2 grandchildren.

Thesearmsofmine · 16/05/2019 08:26

Yeah I think 4 generations is common, my parents have 2 great grandchildren and are in their 60’s.

Springster · 16/05/2019 08:28

Mine were 36 and 39. My grandmother was a great great grandma at the age of 76.

I’ve just had a baby at 38, so very much bucking the trend for my family!

TapasForTwo · 16/05/2019 08:32

Same here Seeline.
So many young parents.
Mine died many, many years ago. They would have been 75 and 84 when my niece was born, and 82 and 91 when DD was born. We all seem to have our babies later in my family.

MIL was 44 when her first grandchild (SIL's eldest) was born.

PlatypusPie · 16/05/2019 08:32

First time - 51 and 52 for my older brother’s son, then a big gap until I had mine so 67 and 68.

Bishalisha · 16/05/2019 08:35

We have 4 generations on my mums side
Great nan: 77/78
Nan: 51
Mum: 30
DCS: 9/4/2

We had 5 on my dads side until recently but I don’t really know them to comment on ages

irregularegular · 16/05/2019 08:35

you could have 5 generations Thesearrmsofmine!

TapasForTwo · 16/05/2019 08:38

I am 60 and am no way ready to be a grandparent BTW.

DD is only 18 and will be going to university in September. She really doesn't like babies and doesn't want children. I am happy for whatever she chooses to do. I don't understand women who are desperate to be grandparents TBH.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 16/05/2019 08:44

We have four generations alive - my baby DS has a great grandmother. She is 103, though...

JordanCatalano4Eva · 16/05/2019 08:54

They were both 39.

They’ve had 15 grandchildren in 14 years.

Mrsjayy · 16/05/2019 08:55

I have been counting my Gran saw 10 GrtGc before she died Shock my Aunts and uncle now have grtgc I feel so old Grin

Bishalisha · 16/05/2019 09:07

If I were to guesstimate the 5th generation in our families age

20 when I had DS
My dad was 44
His dad was 16 years older than him (60)
My dads, dads, mum was probably about 85

She died a few years ago, around 93?

My dads dad abandoned him so we only actually met them once with my DS when he was 1 years old

LadyKylieShagworthy · 16/05/2019 09:12

Both 50, as they had me at age 20. I'm an only child and I had 2 dc at 30 and 32.
My Dad died last year at age 73 and im so glad that he saw his grandkids grow up.

Frith2013 · 16/05/2019 09:15

55 and 55

Dandelion1993 · 16/05/2019 09:17

My mum was 47 and my dad was 55.

GoodPlaceJanet · 16/05/2019 09:49

@starbrightnight that's sad :( I think it's natural once you've had children to imagine yourself becoming a grandparent. Is it a definite no? A lot can change in a couple of years. My DM became a grandmother to my youngest at 69 year old.

Alsonification · 16/05/2019 09:58

Both my parents & my ex in laws were all 50 when my dd was born (first grandchild on both sides). I was 23 having dd.

starbrightnight · 16/05/2019 10:23

Than you @GoodPlaceJanet . Yes I think there is still a chance.

One has no partner (recently single after finally ending a long abusive relationship) and known fertility problems, the other is separated after several miscarriages put a terrible strain on their marriage. They are good friends still so it still all might work out.

We see them regularly which is lovely, and I'm knitting for their friends' babies and pouring my love into that and the garden. :)

GoodPlaceJanet · 16/05/2019 10:29

@starbrightnight gosh they've been through an awful lot. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you Flowers
