Just my mum, she was 53

shiningstar2 · 15/05/2019 20:36

my parents were 44 and 45. Consequently they were both in full time work with a long way to go before retirement. Dad never retired. Died at 58. Mother retired at aged 60 so my daughter was aged 16 when she retired.
Pil were 50 and 54. They went on to have 20 grandchildren. Neither side were in a position to offer babysitting so it always interests me how society has changed and so many parents both working full time rely on grandparent help. I was 51 when I became a grandparent. Retired at 62 so eldest grandchild was 11 when I retired so I wasn't much help in that department either. Always happy to help out for odd nights out but in full time employment myself until they were 11 and 8. Sometimes feel guilty about that but what can you do ...it's life ...had to earn a living Grin

It's strange - there are grandparents here younger than I was when I had my first DC.

Mine were early 50s, in laws were 60s/70s (even though DH and I are the same age).

Timeless19 · 15/05/2019 20:47

Wow all these GPs are so young, both our sets of parents are 70+

Fireinthegrate · 15/05/2019 20:48

My parents were 51 when my two older sisters had their first babies. Within 7 years they got 7 grandchildren altogether.

I am 52 and no sign of a granchild yet☹️

GiveMeFood12 · 15/05/2019 20:49

CMOTDibbler · 15/05/2019 20:52

LisaSimpsonsbff · 15/05/2019 20:53

My parents were 61 and 58, DH's were 70 and 68 (DH and I are the same age - obviously his parents were older when they had him). All retired - both my parents retired in their late 50s, DH's dad retired at 48(!!) and his mum was a SAHM.

HalfBloodPrincess · 15/05/2019 20:54

Mum was 44 and my dad 48. I was 22 when I had my first.

About to have my 4th at 38, mum will be 60 and says it’s the first time she’s felt old enough to be a Granny!

wendz86 · 15/05/2019 20:54

Ginger1982 · 15/05/2019 20:55
