Hi this is a picture that my daughter did and I'd be interested to read people's opinions on it. Thank you in advance.

How old do you think the child that created this is?

8+ years if copied.
I'd love to meet the 3 and 4 year olds who could draw that well😂

ACPC · 14/05/2019 22:15

6/7. My dd is 10 and I'm going by her drawing stages.

InsertFunnyUsername · 14/05/2019 22:15

Sorry cross posted, she has done really well 🙂

Frazzels · 14/05/2019 22:17

Definitely some artistic talents, that's really good. I'm not sure I could do that at 30

ACPC · 14/05/2019 22:17

Xpost. If she enjoys copying get her some 'How to Draw' illustrater guides. My dd loves them.

RiddleyW · 14/05/2019 22:18

I think it’s brilliant for 6.

Whoever guessed 3 doesn’t know any 3 year olds.

There was an amazing thread on here a while ago where someone posted a short story. Messy writing and some spelling mistakes but totally legible and a nice little plot. Asked how old people thought the writer was and there were quite a few guesses of 3. 🙄

RebeccaCloud9 · 14/05/2019 22:19

Ah op, that's lovely. She definitely has a strength in drawing.

HowDidSheGetTheFuckingScissors · 14/05/2019 22:19

My 7 year old is a v detailed and confident artist and I'd say this was about his level, or maybe slightly better, so 8?

stayathomer · 14/05/2019 22:20

OP that's excellent for 6, well done her!!! The age 3/4 people, I was rocking backward and forward thinking of what my kids draw (4,6,9 and 11 and I'd rarely see something like that) though they're great at other things ( the guilt!!)

Lacazettes · 14/05/2019 22:21

Thank you APCP. I will definitely check that book out.

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 22:21

I was going to say about 9 months Wink

Seriously though, whenever these 'how old do you think the child who drew this is' threads come up, someone always jumps in first with a ridiculously young age? Why, what's the point? It just makes them look stupid.

HennyPennyHorror · 14/05/2019 22:23

I work in an art gallery where we run children's art classes. That is definitely advanced OP. Ignore the people sayIng 3 or 4!

FissionChips · 14/05/2019 22:23

She absolutely has talent, well done her!

RiddleMeThis2018 · 14/05/2019 22:26

YY to the “how to draw” books. My 6yo was recently given “how to draw people” and she spends hours drawing astronauts, ballerinas, footballers. They’re so easy to follow. Your DD has done a great picture there. Well done her.

WolfhoundsofLove · 14/05/2019 22:26

Wow. She’s talented alright. It doesn’t matter if she’s copying or not, the point is she’s done it really well and you can see that she’s talented.

BurpingFrog · 14/05/2019 22:28

It's a lovely picture, OP. If she enjoys drawing it's definitely something to nurture in her.

I do worry about children being actively told they're good for their age. Since we all grow up, nobody can be good at something for their age forever -- which can be demotivating if it had become a part of the person's identity.

I think the great thing is just to enjoy things, try hard and build up confidence.

MeakTiger · 14/05/2019 22:29

My DD was doing similar age 5 but she is very creative and quite talented at drawing, she is very good at copying a style.

My DS is the opposite and can’t even manage a circle!

SadOtter · 14/05/2019 22:29

I work in a school and run Rainbows (so see a lot of childrens drawings) I would have said 7/8. For just turned 6 that is very good.

Lacazettes · 14/05/2019 22:30

Sorry ACPC for getting your name wrong earlier.

Thanks everyone. She will be thrilled when I tell her the comments. She can be quite unconfident about her own abilities so that will be a nice boost.

I have to admit reading this has got me a bit teary as she has been under SEN since preschool (nothing diagnosed as yet though).

It’s a great picture and I’d say, considering her age, she has a talent in this area.

Ivestoppedreadingthenews · 14/05/2019 22:31

A normal 8yr old. I think your 6year old is doing well! Having taught a range of primary year groups I must say I’ve never come across a 4yr old who would draw like this Grin

TrickyKid · 14/05/2019 22:32

If it was my daughter, she could draw similar at 8 or 9. My ds nearly 11 couldn't draw that well. Some 6 yr olds can draw like that so I've no idea!

SemperIdem · 14/05/2019 22:33

I’d have said 8/9 before reading the full thread.

Fully Hmm at the people saying 3.

For a 6 year old, that is very good. Quite frankly it is better than my own (30 year old) drawing abilities.

Lacazettes · 14/05/2019 22:33

BurpingFrog - yes I agree. The main thing is that she enjoys it so I will just encourage her gently. The books mentioned are a fab idea so will look at getting a few of those.

Another recommendation for the 'Learn to draw' books. My DD also spends hours drawing from YouTube videos.
