Savoury spread?

I love marmite. I have also discovered peanut butter later in life (all those missed years...!), however I'm looking to try something different - particularly on toast, for breakfast. Can anyone recommend an alternative that I might have missed!!

Oh I will, I will! Wine

Swishswish26 · 14/05/2019 20:50

Marmite with primula cheese spread on top!

Bezalelle · 14/05/2019 22:12

I always thought gentleman's relish was a euphemism! Blush

redredrobins · 14/05/2019 22:27

Gentleman's relish is anchovy paste, I find it disgusting but DH loves it.

MsRinky · 14/05/2019 22:45

Cheese and chilli honey.

Atalune · 14/05/2019 22:51

Marmite with avocado
Mushroom pate
Salmon pate
Cream cheese and olive tapenade

Stravapalava · 14/05/2019 23:27

Salmon philadephia with slightly roasted cherry tomatoes on top of granary toast is one of the nicest breakfasts ever invented.

Djchickpea · 15/05/2019 06:27

Oo thanks for all the suggestions here! I've never heard of Liptaur so I will make a point of making some of that! Sardines yes and hummus yes (although not for breakfast). I've never tried gentleman's relish so that's another one for the trolley Smile

Lemon curd.

GabrielleNelson · 15/05/2019 06:39

Boursin or similar is great on toast, bread, crackers, crispbread or oatcakes. Boursin now comes in handy little individual foil-wrapped portions which I've been taking to work. Also Seriously spreadable cheese in foil-wrapped cubes is good. Much better than Dairylea.

Toasted cheese is one of the loveliest things ever invented. Especially good with slices of tomato on top which have had time to heat through and ideally acquire a little golden tinge, or with a decent chutney. I use Waitrose extra mature Cheddar, which is lovely.

longwayoff · 15/05/2019 09:59

Hummus is good, especially lemon and coriander imo. Also baba ganoush, similar to hummus but made with aubergine, not chickpeas. Yum.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/05/2019 10:15

avocado with marmite under is lovely...I am a very recent convert to avocados having loathed them with a real passion forfuckingever!

I picked up two in the reduced in tesco and am in love. Putting them in salads and on toast mostly

salty butter and avocado
butter, marmite, avocado
just avocado and that fancy lemon cornish salt
avocado and that thick balsalmic glaze stuff

longwayoff · 15/05/2019 11:47

I want to love avocado but I don't. How did u convert? Were the reduced ones extra ripe?

Atalune · 15/05/2019 11:51

Avocado with salt and lemon or lime.

mogtheexcellent · 15/05/2019 11:54

I love sardines on toast. buy the ones tinned in tomato sauce. remove bones, mash and pop on toasted bread , place under grill .

I also love just plain grilled tomatoes on toast. cut tomatoes in half and sprinkle with salt and balck pepper before putting under grill until soft. yum

That salmon philly recipe sounds lovely.

TheQueef · 15/05/2019 11:57

Potted meat or dripping.
The Lidl pate in a three pack at Christmas is nice.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/05/2019 12:02

longwayoff ...I really do not know, I wonder if it was because ones before were not ripe, and that now everyone is eating them the quality is better?? I also always wanted to like them but always found them green tasting in a bad raw sort of way, but the recent ones have been green buttery and delicious in a very good way!

or maybe it's my age :o

Aquilla · 15/05/2019 12:09

Cheese spread and marmite/vegemite is lovely!!

ineedaknittedhat · 15/05/2019 12:19

Heinz sandwich spread is horrible now. Hardly any vegetables and has the consistency of vomit.

longwayoff · 15/05/2019 13:04

MsMighty, thanks, I'll try again in that case Smile

NoSauce · 15/05/2019 13:13

LikeARedBalloon

Marmite and peanut butter together. Yum yum Yum!

Mmm. I love both of these but have never tried them together. I will now Smile

Lolimax · 15/05/2019 13:42

Poached eggs on marmite on toast!

PopWentTheWeasel · 15/05/2019 13:51

Toasted cheese with brinjal (aubergine) pickle. It's in the curry / Pataks ranges in the supermarket. Lush on cheese sandwiches as well.
