New hair colour - panicking! pics! tell me it's ok

So. My hair was getting a bit too light at the ends so I went into the hairdressers yesterday with the intention of going a rich chestnut brown and was feeling flippant & 'it's only hair' so have now gone darker. Much darker. A bit too dark maybe.

What do you think, is it too dark? I know I need to get used to it & I know it will fade but having a bit of a knee jerk reaction to it.

Does it suit me or have I gone back to being a goth... (pic 1 is the hair I had 24 hours ago wearing the necklace DS2 bought me as a surprise, pics 2 & 3 are new darker hair)

It's quite a change. It does seem a little too dark, there's no chestnut brown appearance in your pic. Could that be the lighting?

Handbaghag · 11/05/2019 09:18

Honesty here as I've had the same scenario and am quite pale like yourself. The first pic has lots of warm tones which work with your complexion. The new colour is quite harsh against your skin colour. A compromise may be to add a balayage effect to get the warm tones back ?.

IceRebel · 11/05/2019 09:19

Personally I prefer you hair in the before picture. I don't think it's a case of the new hair being too dark, more so that it's just a single colour. The before hair had different tones and highlights which made it look more natural.

I also think uou suited it better lighter, I'm sorry. I think it's because it's a bit too dark and all one colour. I think if you had some honey low lights in it it would look great.

RidgedPerfection · 11/05/2019 09:20

I think you look better with lighter hair; the dark isn't horrible but makes you look a little washed out.

ShanghaiDiva · 11/05/2019 09:21

I think it is a little harsh against your skin colour and prefer the before picture. However, it is in no way disastrous.

MissGruffalo · 11/05/2019 09:21

First pic is way better. Second pic does not suit your skin tone at all. And makes you look older.

Sorry OP, I’d be going back to the hairdressers.

ShrivelledBrain · 11/05/2019 09:21

It will probably fade quite a lot in the first week if you wash it every day with either Head and Shoulders or Vosene. I find I really like my hair colour better after the first week, it fades and looks more natural.

Mojitomogul · 11/05/2019 09:22

I think dark hair looks really glossy and lovely so don't worry, though it does seem slightly too dark for your colouring-a few washes with head and shoulders should lighten it up a bit, if it was that light before that's why it's sucked in the colour more.

Hoppinggreen · 11/05/2019 09:22

I’m really sorry but I think it is a bit too dark
Not goth but it does make you look pale, it’s also a bit one tone.
You’ve got a lovely smile though !

NineinaBed · 11/05/2019 09:23

I also prefer you in the first picture but the dark isn't that bad. I'm pale like you and couldn't go really dark without looking a little washed out so I always tend to stay with blonde/lighter tones.

gamerwidow · 11/05/2019 09:24

I prefer it lighter but you look lovely in both pictures. Give it a week to fade before you do anything. Dark colours do need time to settle to their true colour after dying.

Mrssnowflake · 11/05/2019 09:24

I quite like it! You remind me a bit of Pearl Lowe with that colour. She is quite gothic in the way she dresses so though. It will lighten up after a week or two so I wouldn't panic

ItsHardToExplain · 11/05/2019 09:24

What do you use on your skin? You have a lovely complexion.

LumpyPillow · 11/05/2019 09:26

I think you look great in both, and both suit you, they are just very different from each other is all. All I can honestly see is that you are really, really pretty. Beautiful eyes and skin!

It is frustrating though, I just tried to dye mine a chestnut brown and it went completely black!

LittleLongDog · 11/05/2019 09:26

Hardcore wash it for a week and then post another pic here. I like the warm undertones it has, there’s hope for it!

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 09:27

You are very pretty and I have to say the lighter hair is better.

I have a Polish friend who looks like you and she also tried darker hair and it didn’t suit her either.

Changedforhairpost · 11/05/2019 09:28

Thanks for all the replies, you've confirmed what I was thinking. Thanks for the honesty :)

I'm back at the hairdressers in 6 weeks, I'll wash it in the meantime & see if it fades a bit and talk to her about going a bit lighter too.

I'm rationalising it by telling myself I look like snow white :) :)

Thanks ItsHard the first pic is No7 foundation in Porcelain & the second I had hardly any make up on, its a Skin Tint from Glossier, the most bare faced I get. Wasn't planning on posting any pics of myself when I took it haha

I actually prefer the darker colour it frames your face better and brings out your eyes, I think you look younger with it. But it does look a little flat, maybe a shade lighter highlights through it would help break it up?

SoupDragon · 11/05/2019 09:29

I don't think it looks bad but is perhaps too dark. Washing may well fade it a fair bit though (isn't head and shoulders meant to be good for that?)

madamedeluxe · 11/05/2019 09:30

I do think you look nicer with the lighter hair. Worried now as I am doing the same next week - light to dark!

LoafofSellotape · 11/05/2019 09:32

I think it's a bit harsh and doesn't do much for you , I'm surprised the hairdresser went so dark as it's a bit draining against your beautiful skin.

It's only hair,it can be changed! 😊

madamedeluxe · 11/05/2019 09:33

I think you could live with it until your next appointment by which time you will be sure if you want to change it or not.

Drogosnextwife · 11/05/2019 09:33

You could try stripping the colour out with colour remover. I used it a while ago when I coloured my hair and I absolutely hated it. It worked a treat.
Or go back and ask them to lighten it for you because you just feel it's a bit too dark.

Stiffasaboard · 11/05/2019 09:35

Much prefer the lighter on you

You would suit a dark auburn
