New hair colour - panicking! pics! tell me it's ok

So. My hair was getting a bit too light at the ends so I went into the hairdressers yesterday with the intention of going a rich chestnut brown and was feeling flippant & 'it's only hair' so have now gone darker. Much darker. A bit too dark maybe.

What do you think, is it too dark? I know I need to get used to it & I know it will fade but having a bit of a knee jerk reaction to it.

Does it suit me or have I gone back to being a goth... (pic 1 is the hair I had 24 hours ago wearing the necklace DS2 bought me as a surprise, pics 2 & 3 are new darker hair)

I'm rationalising it by telling myself I look like snow white

Yes you do!

I had a late night call from a colleague in floods who'd done this. All I could glean through the sobs was that she looked like witch. She didn't. She looked like Madonna in the Like a Prayer video Smile

I had the opposite problem. My hair is normally a version of mousy brown/light chestnut.

I went blonde on a whim.

I loved it for a week or two then hated it.

Got my hairdresser to fix it by adding in darker colours. So for a while I had the early 2000’s chunky highlights look.

Am actually going back today and am asking for a rose gold tint. This may/may not be a mistake. If I don’t bottle it

I much prefer your dark hair - you just need to change your make up a bit so you don't look too peely-wally

The dark hair 'should' go with your complexion.

I think that if you wear darker colours, or even white/stronger cours, you will look better.

Give it a try.

Also, as pp said, cosmetics.
Black top, bold lips, be fabulous.

changedforlife · 11/05/2019 16:11

I agree with the pearl Lowe comment - definitely alike!! Your skin is fab so you can carry it off. I really like the new colour.

whateverhappenstheremore · 11/05/2019 16:20

It looks better lighter tbh

areyoubeingserviced · 11/05/2019 16:23

Too dark.
Lighter tones suit you better

babbi · 11/05/2019 16:31

You’re very pretty ... with both colours .
Would suggest you don’t do anything other than wash it over the next couple of weeks as having done this a few times myself I can tell you it will fade quite a bit ...
It’ll be lovely ..

Your skin looks amazing 😀

formerbabe · 11/05/2019 16:48

I think you look better with lighter hair to be honest but the dark still looks nice. I think stronger make up will help you carry it off though.

12FreeRangeEggs · 11/05/2019 16:59

Harrison sorry i don’t mean to contradict you but it is simply a myth. Hair colour is stripped by repeated washing with water and use of surfactants (found in large majority of shampoos, approx 95% of what is sold in supermarkets). Any brand of shampoo would have the desired “stripping” effect.

sniffysnifferson · 11/05/2019 17:03

Use Head and shoulders classic and wash several times within the first 48hour window to help fade it quicker. But in the meantime a njce bold lipstick and a not too dark eyebrow pomade will make it lool a bit less harsh.

bakereld · 11/05/2019 17:03

The colour will lighten after a few washes. Maybe ask for a few highlights at the next appt? However I do feel like the darker hair draws attention to your really lovely skin! I also think the dark hair makes you look younger as a pp said :)

Flower777 · 11/05/2019 17:12

I think add in a bold lip and it will look stunning!

mrsjackrussell · 11/05/2019 17:34

I prefer the lighter colour but I don't dislike the darker. I think that you might need some dramatic make up with it like red lips

Dowser · 11/05/2019 18:24

We have the same pale complexion and I always felty hair colour was too dark for my pale face
I’ve been having it highlighted for the last 40 years or more
And been very happy with it too

SilentBob · 11/05/2019 18:32

I instantly thought Laura Prepon when I saw pic 2. I really like it.

QueenKubauOfKish · 11/05/2019 19:10

I have used H&S for this too, and it did help - but I think maybe it's because H&S classic is just a basic shampoo. Unlike many others we use now which often have ingredients to preserve colour or contain lots of conditioning oils etc.

So another no-frills medicated or basic shampoo would probably work too.

Crunchymum · 11/05/2019 19:15

If pushed I'd say I prefer the lighter but think the darker is lovely too.
