New hair colour - panicking! pics! tell me it's ok

So. My hair was getting a bit too light at the ends so I went into the hairdressers yesterday with the intention of going a rich chestnut brown and was feeling flippant & 'it's only hair' so have now gone darker. Much darker. A bit too dark maybe.

What do you think, is it too dark? I know I need to get used to it & I know it will fade but having a bit of a knee jerk reaction to it.

Does it suit me or have I gone back to being a goth... (pic 1 is the hair I had 24 hours ago wearing the necklace DS2 bought me as a surprise, pics 2 & 3 are new darker hair)

Head &shoulders is good for stripping colour and a shampoo bar from lush called seanik. I use it for volume but it takes a lot of the colour out aswell unfortunately.

MummyDummyNow · 11/05/2019 09:37

If you want the dark to fade use lots of Head and Shoulders shampoo. My friend who is a hairdresser told me it really strips colour. Wish I'd known that when I did a similar thing to you years ago and had very dark hair which didn't suit me at all!

Thanks OP I will order some 😊

You've got beautiful skin!

Much prefer it yesterday, it's too dark for your complexion and a heavy block of colour which always looks really cheap in my opinion - mostly because it looks like it's colour out of a box rather than a hairdressers.

Harrison376 · 11/05/2019 09:44

Head and shoulders will strip it back a few shades, you have to wash you hair repeatedly-I’m talking 20+ times, just get in the shower and do it over and over.

The lighter tones do suit you better.

thethoughtfox · 11/05/2019 09:49

The first picture is stunning. The second is a beautiful colour but not right for you. I had this: I loved dark glossy hair after years of highlights but my hair looked lovely but I didn't.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 11/05/2019 09:52

I like the darker! Think it needs some stronger make up to really show it off though. Do you ever wear red lipstick?

potatoesofthenight · 11/05/2019 10:01

Head and shoulders works really well if you work a good amount into dry hair then wrap your hair in a plastic shower cap and leave it on for an hour. It worked for me when my hairdresser dyed my hair vivid copper instead of warm chestnut two days before I went on holiday Angry

QueenKubauOfKish · 11/05/2019 10:01

Oh been there OP! I have very similar colouring to you and I've dyed my hair that tiny bit too dark and it looks a bit harsh. However IME it does fade, what you've got there is day 1 dyed hair - wash it a lot, try head and shoulders, and it will fade. Agree with others you need a slightly more auburn/reddish brown and you will look fantastic.

(I also agree with your decision to go darker - it will really work, just need to adjust it slightly!)

In the meantime I have found I can work the darker hair look by wearing a fresh pink blush and feminine/colourful clothes to play off it. If you wear black you will look more washed out.

floribunda18 · 11/05/2019 10:05

I really like it! But I agree it needs a few highlights. Though my hair always goes less of a single colour when I've washed it a few times. See how it is after a couple of weeks.

ApplesinmyPocket · 11/05/2019 10:05

Your face and eyes are lovely!

The new hair isn't horrible, but I agree that the lighter, more golden hair suits you better. At least you've given it a try - and now you know and hopefully it won't take too long before it's back to a more flattering colour.

I thought it was going to be pink or something Grin Mind you, my DD's hairdresser specialises in colour and balayage etc and I've seen some BEAUTIFUL blonds with pink shades throughout...

QueenOfTheCroneAge · 11/05/2019 10:07

I like both! I really think you'd suit a fringe if you stick with the darker hair. New look!

12FreeRangeEggs · 11/05/2019 10:14

Head and Shoulders doesn’t strip colour, that is an urban myth. But over use will irritate your scalp so please don’t repeatedly wash your hair in Head and Shoulders to try to lighten the colour. The colour will actually lighten over time whichever shampoo you use because you have gone from light to dark and all hair colours will fade slightly.

Try tinting your eyebrows and eyelashes a little darker so your colour will appear more natural.

I think a shade just slightly lighter will look much better on you but i do think it looks nice.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/05/2019 10:35

Do the photo again with the same makeup and lovely smile, may make a difference.

I do prefer more textured colour.

Sonicknuckles · 11/05/2019 10:50

I think it's nice

Harrison376 · 11/05/2019 10:52

12FreeRangeEggs it’s not an urban myth at all. I’ve used the method myself a few times over the years, works like a treat and it’s never irritated my scalp.

Littlechocola · 11/05/2019 10:53

I really like it! It enhances your beautiful features!

LoafofSellotape · 11/05/2019 10:59

H and S does fade colour ime!

Hairwizard · 11/05/2019 11:00

Think some warm caramel/buttery pieces through in balayage effect would be lovely with it, its a bit flat. Your skin is lovely btw, as is your smile!
As pp have said, wash in head and shoulders for next few days, should help lift some of the dark tone out.

Mummyshark2018 · 11/05/2019 12:06

I think you'd need to wear make up to pull off the dark hair and not look washed out. I like the lighter better

Chocolate1984 · 11/05/2019 12:37

I quite like the dark hair. I think once you have your make up on and get used to the change you will like it.

VioletCharlotte · 11/05/2019 13:00

I went from blonde to dark like this once, and like you, found it really hard to get used to. I found I had to rethink my make up and clothes completely. I needed a lot more make up with dark hair, otherwise I looked too washed out. Try some bright lipstick, I think that would make a huge difference.

NeatFreakMama · 11/05/2019 13:05

I think the fat hair suits you! You can do more dramatic makeup as well.

NeatFreakMama · 11/05/2019 13:05

Urgh phone lol dark hair suits you!
