What sort of shoes does your 12-14 YO DD wear to school? Clueless!

DD is 13 (Y8) and has been wearing comfy black ballerina/pump type shoes to school since she started comp. Her older sisters wore shoes like these a few years ago. Popped into school briefly recently and saw girls wearing different shoes, more substantial and trainer like.
DD needs new shoes, but I don't know what's "in" at the moment. She has SN and is no good at choosing for herself and I'm an older, rural mother who doesn't get out much!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Startrite loafers in black or she tried to get away with wearing lace up canvas blacks vans!!

Flowerpower321 · 08/05/2019 19:31

Startrite brogues, trainers not allowed at her school. Good for walking home in the rain!!

puppylovebaby · 08/05/2019 19:32

My DD school wk t allow trainers but if your daughter is allowed Air Force 1's (AF1) in black are in at the moment too

My 2 dd’s wear kickers, as do most girls at their school

twoheaped · 08/05/2019 19:32

Doc Marten's are popular with the girls at the school mine goes to.

PurpleBag · 08/05/2019 19:33

Short ankles boots or converse here. Have seen girls wearing all black Vans or Nike trainers.

Doidontimmm · 08/05/2019 19:33

My daughter & all her friends age 14 wear black trainers (branded). I guess it depends on school policy, ours just says all black footwear.

These

My dd school allow leather vans but not converse. She had a pair of vans lookalike ones from red or dead but they fell apart pretty quickly. Due to her not telling me until they were falling off her replacements had to be something we could get as quick as possible. We ended up (to her initial disgust) with a pair of plain black Clark's lace ups. She has since admitted they are very comfy!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/05/2019 19:37

lots of the year 8s in dds school have these x

PropagandaMachine · 08/05/2019 19:38

Great, thanks everyone. No, she's not allowed obvious trainers, but can probably get away with trainerish shoes, and possibly black Vans.
And I like kickers and docs!

Will show her some pics of your suggestions.

Mine are allowed trainers with no markings, leather Vans and Gazelles are the current choices

PropagandaMachine · 08/05/2019 19:41

Due to her not telling me until they were falling off her...

I had this with one of my older DDs... I remember noticing the soles of her tighted feet through the holey soles of her shoes as she ran for the bus! Felt like the most neglectful parent ever!

Dd’s school is very strict on uniform, every single girl seems to be wearing these

Decormad38 · 08/05/2019 19:46

Brogues in black from that german shoe company. They are synthetic uppers but my god they have lasted so much longer than Clarks or Startrite and they were half the cost!

hazeyjane · 08/05/2019 19:46

Dd's school don't allow Vans or skate shoes.

They have DrMartens - dd1 the lace ups, dd2 Mary Janes with a buckle.

Geraniumpink · 08/05/2019 19:55

Sturdy Loafers or dms seem popular at the school I work in.

PropagandaMachine · 08/05/2019 19:58

Definitely the trend is for the more substantial shoe, then!

Lots to browse and choose from, thank you all.

DD has black leather converse.

Tr1skel1on · 08/05/2019 20:01

Dd1 black Nike trainers dd2 black vans. The Nike are a much better shoe if trainers are allowed

dementedpixie · 08/05/2019 20:04

Dd has brogues from schuh

CatalogueUniverse · 08/05/2019 20:04

These

Or Doc Martens. Have to be black leather or the girls would be wearing trainers. Lots of brogues-harder to work out what is cool for those though.

These - cheap as chip, comfy and have lasted far longer than any Clark’s shoes I have ever bought her.

PropagandaMachine · 08/05/2019 20:12

Oh I love all those brogues, but I reckon DD will describe them as men's shoes (DH wears black brogues to work!).

The kickers look good, possibly the vans. Think the converse and Nike may be a bit too trainer like.
Not sure how she'd react to DMs, but I've always loved them!
