What sort of shoes does your 12-14 YO DD wear to school? Clueless!

DD is 13 (Y8) and has been wearing comfy black ballerina/pump type shoes to school since she started comp. Her older sisters wore shoes like these a few years ago. Popped into school briefly recently and saw girls wearing different shoes, more substantial and trainer like.
DD needs new shoes, but I don't know what's "in" at the moment. She has SN and is no good at choosing for herself and I'm an older, rural mother who doesn't get out much!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

My 12yo Y8 daughter wears Dr Martens because they are sturdy and waterproof.

Comefromaway · 08/05/2019 20:17

Ballerina style flats were not allowed at Dds school because they are bad for your feet. Dd can’t wear them anyway due to her high arches & hyprmobility.

Most of the girls wore brogues or DM’s. Some even wore Mary Janes up to year 10.

Be careful with vans - my school definitely won't allow those. Must be shoes not trainers.

SwedishEdith · 08/05/2019 20:27

Doc Martens.

riotsnotdietsx · 08/05/2019 20:29

Black vans and black Nike here. I wish they were made to wear proper shoes actually but maybe I'm old fashioned

RagingWhoreBag · 08/05/2019 20:38

DD is 12 and bought some shoes from the boys section at Clark’s this year as she doesn’t like girly stuff. (She also wears trousers and a tie rather than an open necked blouse.)

Ever since nursery I’ve complained about how impractical girls school shoes are compared to boys ones - she used to have Kickers boots or DM style boots when she was little, went through a brogues stage and for home she likes Converse or boots too.

Yes, I think I'd better be careful here. The uniform policy says "no trainers" though I think many push it a bit with black trainers. Would be an expensive mistake to buy them then be told they're nit allowed, though.

The recent trend for brogues and Docs is an absolute godsend. Saved a generation of schoolgirls from plantar fasciitis and wet feet.

olivo · 08/05/2019 20:44

Kickers Mary Jane style for my 12yo

Hellywelly10 · 08/05/2019 20:44

Dd is in year 8 shes always worn kicker boots. I really like the brogues.

When I was at high school in the 80s, we all wore pointy heel and pointy toe court shoes. Walked around in them all day. Even walked to school in them.

Explains a lot!

My 14 year old has these www.clarks.co.uk/c/Frankie-Street-Youth/p/26134930 she also has the lace up version. She has very tricky feet , wide with a high instep, but a slim heel as she is skinny. Dr Martens don’t fit her as the heel is too wide.
My 12 year old has these www.clarks.co.uk/c/Venture-Star/p/26134915. But is about to have some new ones.
Their school doesn’t allow trainers.

JoeMaplin · 08/05/2019 21:25

Both my girls wear brogues. Their school does not allow anything trainer like such as the vans etc already posted.

AuditAngel · 08/05/2019 21:40

DD(12) currently wearing Startrite brogues, last pair were Kickers

CallarMorvern · 08/05/2019 22:03

Black Nike trainers, they are allowed anything that is flat and completely all black, no coloured logos or soles.

floraloctopus · 08/05/2019 22:05

Doc Martens

Troels · 08/05/2019 22:06

Dd year 9 wears Clarks black brouges. Lasted and lasted I am impressed.

Justgivemesomepeace · 08/05/2019 22:10

Kickers here. Shes had them every year. Shes yr 11 now so we got all emotional buying her last ever pair last september. 😂 Shes always got a year out of them.

ChippyMinton · 08/05/2019 22:16

brogues or DM shoes. Tip: the DMs in children’s sizes are softer leather and don’t need breaking in like the adult sizes (cheaper too).

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/05/2019 22:18

Mary Jane style patent kickers, dd is 14.

stucknoue · 08/05/2019 22:18

At her age mine wore plimsolls (lace up) then dd changed school and has to wear proper school shoes from Clark's

mejon · 08/05/2019 22:28

Yr8 DD is wearing Startrite brogues again this year. The ones we got this year have so far lasted better than the style she had in Yr7 so I'll no doubt be getting another pair for September. Trainers are apparently not allowed in her school but I've seen many in those all black Vans and Converse type shoes.

MiaowMix · 08/05/2019 22:29

Yep kickers or DM shoes for my year 7 daughter too. No trainers allowed.
She should fit right in with a pair of these Smile
