Most boring film you've ever seen?

I'm watching On Chesil Beach and I can't remember the last time I watched a film this dull. Only sticking with it to see how they do the, ahem, early arrival part. Thinking about it the book was fairly shite too.

What's the most boring film you've ever seen so I can avoid nights like this Grin

Gravity. Visually stunning but soooooo dull.

IAlmostCracked · 06/05/2019 15:54

Sully with Tom Hanks. I fell asleep.

HildaAlida · 06/05/2019 15:58

I've liked a few that have been mentioned and I'm fairly tolerant to the long-winded premise - I have durability - but must admit even I gave up on Benjamin Button. And that one with Jake Gyllenhall when he keeps getting killed in a train explosion or something? Such a promising looking idea but yaawwwn.

I also fall asleep whenever anybody puts any kind of animated film on.

mamaduckbone · 06/05/2019 15:58

Maisondechats I agree - it has to be a really really good film for me NOT to fall asleep. Especially kids films.

CassandraCross · 06/05/2019 16:05

Fences
Pearl Harbour
Black Hawk Down

Lasted approx 20 minutes into those before giving up.

Benjamin Button
The Valley of Elah
There Will Be Blood - not exactly boring just an awful film.

The absolute worst on the boring-o-meter has to be:

All Is Lost starring Robert Redford - there is NO dialogue NONE, NADA. There equally seemed to be absolutely no point to the whole thing.

icanthelpyou · 06/05/2019 16:11

Oz the great and powerful

mazv1953 · 06/05/2019 16:19

Lost in Translation. I was still waiting for something to happen when it ended. Finally.

RozHuntleysStump · 06/05/2019 16:26

The English Patient. It was years ago but I still remember the literal pain of boredom.

Dogparty · 06/05/2019 16:26

Old man & the sea. The most boring film & book ever. Had to watch/read this for GCSE. Incredibly dull!

Gutted people don’t like Lord of the Rings! My all time favourite books & films! Absolutely adore it!

Relevent.

Rafflesway · 06/05/2019 16:40

Has to be the horrors/cringefests which are GREASE and MAMMA MIA! 😡😡😡. Didn't get beyond the first few minutes of either but have seen several snippets since. My God, dreadful doesn't even touch the sides!

Also, the mega dull Manchester by the Sea - I think that's what it's called. I stuck with it because of the Oscar hype but it was bloody dire.

must admit to loving the English Patient though Grin

PutyourtoponTrevor · 06/05/2019 16:42

Deathly Hallows part 1 was utter dullsville

longwayoff · 06/05/2019 16:49

Watched Velvet Buzzsaw on Netflix. Was gripped as its so awful in so many ways I couldn't turn it off . But it's the sheer disbelief that his film has been loosed upon the world that kept me watching. It's boring.

RadioMeinRadio · 06/05/2019 16:51

I love The English Patient too.

Cooroo · 06/05/2019 16:52

Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't know why, I imagine they must be quite exciting but I slept through two of them.

I usually enjoy slow films with a lot of chat. But car chases send me off in seconds.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 06/05/2019 16:53

Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

teyem · 06/05/2019 16:59

Yup, I'll go Close Encounters of the Third Kind too. I went to the cinema when I was a teen just to get out of the cold, I think. Anyway me and my friend decided that, although we'd never heard of it, Spielberg had never let us down before....fuck me, that was a long, boring-ass movie.

PennyB40 · 06/05/2019 17:15

Unfortunately I have form for listening to overhyped buzz about films and then watching them.
A 90’s film, Grand Canyon, navel gazing bollocks, a group of rich people do a lot of dithering and over thinking. Nothing happens. I kept waiting for something to happen, and then the credits rolled.
Crash- preachy crap, again nothing happens, apart from a lot of pained searching gazes from actors.
The worst one has to be the film with James Spader and Holly Hunter in it, as pervs who get the horn from car accidents. No idea what was going on during that one.

teyem · 06/05/2019 17:18

It was called Crash, it was an awful movie.

rockingthelook · 06/05/2019 17:27

Tom Cruise, Magnolia....didn't have a clue?

aidelmaidel · 06/05/2019 17:34

Life of Pi. Interminable string of random stuff.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 06/05/2019 17:35

Solaris

M15sterPip · 06/05/2019 17:47

BaronessBomburst do you mean 'Etre et Avoir'?

Agree with you about French films in general. I never understood the hype about Amélie.

SophieLMumsnet · 06/05/2019 18:44

Can't believe how many have put The English Patient! Shock
