Did any one used to watch Gladiators?

I used to love watching this on a Saturday night with my sisters and brother, we often missed the end because dinner was ready (always lasagne on a Saturday my favourite).

Wolf and Saracen were my favourites I always found Shadows eyes really scary!

We always wanted a go at it especially suspension bridge, skytrack and the eliminator.

I've just managed to find it on the telly and me and my 7 year old DD are watching it, she loves it too Smile

Oh I didn't realise it was the originals on nowtv. I assumed it was the crap remake. Jolly good. Hope it's still available!.

Loved it! Jet joins in Zumba classes where I go on holiday and she is there too. So cool

Sourdoughpizza · 06/05/2019 14:40

"gladia-tors" now in my head. Loved watching people chucking themselves at things. Always seemed a bit demented and awesome at same time. I used to love the travelator at the end when they were all knackered. All the boys crushed on Jet, girls wanted to be her.

feelingverylazytoday · 06/05/2019 14:49

I watched it right from the beginning with my eldest, he's 30 now Shock.
Don't think anyone's mentioned Nightshade (Judy Simpson) yet, she was a top athlete but they were all great. I always thought some of the men were a bit too big though.
The sky tv reboot was very disappointing.

Met Rio a few times in her previous job
Always smiling then

Parky04 · 06/05/2019 14:58

Had a crush on Jet (who didn't though!).

Borris I'm very jealous that you got to meet Wolf I loved him, I think it was because he was a 'rebel'.

Saracen was due to open a ride at Alton Towers or Drayton Manor. My son won a competition to meet him. He was so lovely to my 3 little boys. We sat in the cafe and he just spoke with them. Some other children came to ask for his autograph and he said I will be along in 5 minutes - I am just sitting here with my friends. my boys are all in their 30s now but still remember how he called them his friends x fabulous man .

John Anderson is from the town I live in. He used to do the countdown to our fireworks every year, gladiators were regular visitors to local events and things and we always had a gladiator in the town pantomime at Christmas! I've met loads of them. Absolutely loved it as a kid.

Geekster1963 · 06/05/2019 17:39

It's nice to read that they are all so nice. Saracen seemed lovely on the telly too.

I remember reading an article years ago saying that all potential Gladiators had their lives screened to the nth degree because the producers were determined they would be 'squeaky clean' family entertainers. So I guess it worked, largely.

Heartofglass12345 · 06/05/2019 21:16

I also saw it live and kept my foam finger for years Grin

redexpat · 06/05/2019 21:46

@ChicCroissant You can do the crystal maze in london and I think Manchester now.

ChicCroissant · 06/05/2019 21:48

The new series was filmed relative close to me, I'd love to see the sets IRL! I'll have to start gathering a potential team ... I'll look up the London one in the meantime!

SuckingDieselNow · 06/05/2019 22:23

I met Rhino at a village show when I was about 14/15. I asked him if he could lift a car, he laughed and said no Blush He was lovely. Built like a tank.

ReadyForActionRyderSir · 06/05/2019 22:43

I went to watch an episode being filmed at the NIA in Brum. Was fab. Loved Jet and Saracen.

BadLad · 06/05/2019 23:35

How long did filming of an episode take? It was well-edited in the programme to make it look asif it all slotted seamlessly into place very smoothly, but there must have been loads of setting up and clearing away equipment.

Spudina · 06/05/2019 23:42

I went to see it too. Saracen waved at me. I remember that it took up a lot of time to set up the different events, and then the event was over really quickly. Also you didn't see the final challenge as that was filmed on a different day. They did really well at keeping the audience entertained despite all the waiting though.

RasberryRoyale · 07/05/2019 06:58

Gladiators was the best. Great part of my childhood, we would all sit down and watch as a family. I miss it!

WillGymForPizza · 07/05/2019 07:55

Eunice became a stunt woman afterwards. She was in Titanic and is one of the people who rolls down the deck as the ship sinks.

claragolightly · 07/05/2019 11:57

It was THE BEST! Absolutely loved it. Jet was my favourite girl, and Saracen my fave guy.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/05/2019 12:01

Essential Saturday night viewing!

Shoxfordian · 07/05/2019 12:01

Argh
Got the theme song stuck in my head
Loved it though

SamBaileys · 07/05/2019 12:09

We loved Gladiators!! My Mam loved Wolf, I was more of a Cobra fan.

Heartofglass12345 · 07/05/2019 13:22

I can't really remember as it was so long ago but it felt like we were there all day lol. Ulrika kept messing up her lines too Grin
