Going to the cinema by yourself

Hiya,
I'm considering going to the cinema by myself, mainly because its difficult to find anyone who is free when I have childcare.

Has anyone done this and was it just odd?

I do realise it's not a huge deal

My son insists on it, haha! He loves movies and hates the idea that someone might talk to him during the viewing.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 04/05/2019 17:52

Yeah I've done it for the same reasons. Great not having to share the popcorn!

drquin · 04/05/2019 17:53

Absolutely go on your own ...... no need to compromise on where / when / what film, just indulge yourself. I often go on my own and notice more & more folk on their own.

AndAHappyNewYear · 04/05/2019 17:54

I go alone a lot. Mostly Monday mornings when it's reasonably quiet and half price tickets and there are almost always other people on their own too.

Riverviews · 04/05/2019 17:55

Yes. It's completely normal. Go ahead!

Ivy44 · 04/05/2019 17:55

I used to do this loads when I was single. You’ll be sitting in the dark, so no one will notice. Very different from plucking up the courage to go to a restaurant by yourself. Enjoy!

BelulahBlanca · 04/05/2019 17:55

I’ve done it. Do it OP!

NameChangeNugget · 04/05/2019 17:55

Do it a lot.

No pillocks interrupting to explain the plot, pic n mix to yourself and if you doze off, no one to wake you Wink

biggirlknickers · 04/05/2019 17:56

I really miss going to the cinema alone! I used to do it a lot pre-kids because my then H didn’t like the films I liked.

These days, the only time I go to the cinema is to watch kids’ films Hmm

Go, OP, and revel in it!

thisisthetime · 04/05/2019 17:56

I’ve not done it but I want to! Go for it!

Ellegeebee · 04/05/2019 17:56

I absolutely love going to the cinema on my own, bliss.

Rockbird · 04/05/2019 17:57

Going by yourself is a thing of beauty. I miss being able to do it as often.

ImportantWater · 04/05/2019 17:58

I love it. I went to see Endgame last night after the kids had gone to bed (DH was home with them!).

Ronia · 04/05/2019 17:59

I did it. Really really wanted to see Captain Marvel but babysitters etc are too expensive for a cinema trip. Popped out to local cinema on my own one night. Was absolute heaven Grin

Crusoe · 04/05/2019 18:00

I go on my own regularly and I love it. I sit where I want and eat and drink what I want, it’s bliss. I’m hardly ever the only person on my own and nobody cares anyway.

Sear86 · 04/05/2019 18:01

Thank you for the encouragement. I think i mSmileight

Go for it OP - I go on my own a lot, the lights are off people don't really notice

WobniarRewolf · 04/05/2019 18:09

Do it! It's one of my treats - I don't understand why it's seen as a social experience when all you do is sit in the dark and not talk to the people you're with!

FVFrog · 04/05/2019 18:10

All the time. I go to a very naice independent one near us with sofas where they bring you your glass of wine/cup of tea etc to your seat. I love it!

Gingernaut · 04/05/2019 18:11

I do it.

No one to mooch about, waiting for toilets for, eat anything you like without sharing or anyone commenting on it, you can lose yourself in the film without someone else remarking on it.

Great way to spend a few hours.

Baloonphobia · 04/05/2019 18:11

I do it all the time. It's great.
I've a friend who won't go anywhere on her own. She's constantly complaining that she never gets to go anywhere.

Laodamia · 04/05/2019 18:12

This comes up on MN so often. You'll be sitting in the dark watching a film, not taking part solo in a couple's tango class.

BogglesGoggles · 04/05/2019 18:13

I prefer it.

notacooldad · 04/05/2019 18:14

I've been doing this since I was 14. I'm nearly 54.
I dont even know why it gets asked on here so much!

HoppityChicken · 04/05/2019 18:17

It's great going on your own! Do it!
