Going to the cinema by yourself

Hiya,
I'm considering going to the cinema by myself, mainly because its difficult to find anyone who is free when I have childcare.

Has anyone done this and was it just odd?

I do realise it's not a huge deal

One of life's great pleasures. Take in a nice coffee with you (or a gin and tonic) and revel!

PintOfBovril · 04/05/2019 18:33

I love it, I go on a weekday and sit on a ‘sofa seat’ because it’s so empty, have a piece of cake from the cafe at the cinema and a cup of tea. Bliss.

cafesociety · 04/05/2019 18:57

I've been doing it for years and really enjoy it. I can concentrate, sometimes cry a lot! There are usually other people in there on their own.
I usually go in the afternoons, it's great.

HoobleDooble · 04/05/2019 19:34

I have a friend at work the same age as me (mid 40s) who not only goes on her own, but goes to the Odeon 'silver screenings' where you get a cup of tea and a blanket for your knees.

I'd definitely go alone. Nobody talking to you during the film and you can just walk out if it's rubbish.

Hiddenaspie1973 · 04/05/2019 19:36

Yeah I used to do it. But now most films sound shite.
The last film i saw was bohemian rhapsody in December. On my day off during the week. Bliss!

ILiveInSalemsLot · 04/05/2019 19:36

I love going on my own. Go for it.

malovitt · 04/05/2019 19:40

I go by myself all the time and there are always a good few people who don't look like wierdos or nutters sitting on their own.
As I get older I'm enjoying my own company more and more!

JenniferJareau · 04/05/2019 19:47

A majority of times I go by myself. Don't see anything odd in it. Saw Avengers Endgame today in 4D.

I don't give a shit if someone thinks it's odd. I won't let their small mindedness stop me from doing what I want to do.

megletthesecond · 04/05/2019 19:49

Normal and bliss.
Cup of tea and bag of M&M's to myself Smile.

outvoid · 04/05/2019 19:54

I had a cineworld card at one stage and went alone most weekends.

BitchyHen · 04/05/2019 19:55

I went on my own for the first time today. I wanted to see the new avengers film but dd wasn't keen so I went by myself. It was fine, no one turned a hair. I really enjoyed myself and I'm definitely going to do it again.

GunpowderGelatine · 04/05/2019 19:57

I've done it a few times and love it, I don't let lack of company stop from seeing a film I wanna see!

maddy68 · 04/05/2019 20:01

I love going to the cinema by myself

nocoolnamesleft · 04/05/2019 20:01

I've never understood weird people going to the cinema in groups. So much better on your own.

hairypaws · 04/05/2019 20:01

I have a limitless card and love going on my own. Go for it.

User11011 · 04/05/2019 20:30

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest and actually sounds lovely!

ladymarian · 04/05/2019 20:37

I do it regularly and I love it. I go on weekday mornings when I'm not working. It's bliss! I get to see all the films I want. I think it's a real treat
Do it!

NC4Now · 04/05/2019 20:38

I went to the theatre on my own the other week. It was really liberating. I’ll definitely do it again,

Vinorosso74 · 04/05/2019 20:49

I've done it a few times generally weekdays during the day. You don't sit and chat at the cinema so going alone makes sense. Theatre alone would be ok (not done it) but don't think I could go to a gig alone.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/05/2019 20:53

Do it! I've done it and really enjoyed it - didn't have to share my chocolate or anything Grin

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 04/05/2019 20:54

I went to the cinema on my own once... got into the cinema, saw loads of groups of teenagers stood around and worried that I looked like a weirdo going on my own so I veered off, got a coffee from the Costa that's inside the cinema and went home! I really regretted it after as I felt like a right knob and no one else wanted to go and see the film with me.

hazeyjane · 04/05/2019 20:58

Going to the cinema on my own is one of my favourite things to do. I haven't been able to do it for years though.

PatriciaHolm · 04/05/2019 21:15

Ha! I have literally just got in from watching Long Shot on my own. Love it. I will happily go to a bar or restaurant on my own too, with a good book!

GlitterPixie · 04/05/2019 21:18

I always do this it’s not odd at all

RubberTreePlant · 04/05/2019 21:21

Someone asks this at least once every month.

NO! It's not odd. Honest! Grin
