STUPID COURIER!

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:20

Ordered a beautiful window from eBay... not cheap! And the courier came earlier than expected and told them to leave it by the house... I didn’t have time to put it away yet and I went outside to find it on the floor and it’s smashed Sad who’s fault is this and what can I do to get money from down the drain (metaphor)

Hiphopopotamous · 04/05/2019 16:22

I can't see how it's the couriers fault when they left it where you told them to?

BogglesGoggles · 04/05/2019 16:23

@Hippo presumably the courier just drop it on the floor and left?

LIZS · 04/05/2019 16:24

Unless you can prove it was smashed in transit or due to negligence you can't claim against courier. Was it was insured for accidental damage ?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 04/05/2019 16:26

It's your fault.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:37

I mistyped... I told them where to leave it but the DIDNT leave it there!!! They left it round back of house not front which I didn’t see for a while (when dh was home to help me move it) and further, I then had to wait for dh to get home to help me move it and... in which time it got blown over by the wind...

OP posts:
Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:37

LIZS how would I prove it???

OP posts:
Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:39

Utterly... how???

OP posts:
ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/05/2019 16:39

The wind blew it over because you didn’t take it inside. If you weren’t going to be there to take it in straight away (knowing it was glass!!) then you should have told the courier to wait until the correct time to deliver.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:45

Maxi... the timing was ok because where they SHOULD have left it would have been ok for me to move it alone but they didn’t leave it alone and hence, I was unable to move it alone! At the time I wasn’t around to check the location!

OP posts:
ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/05/2019 16:47

At the time I wasn’t around to check the location!

Exactly! Which is why you should have told them to wait until the correct time so you could be there to see it delivered. When you told them to deliver it in your absence you took responsibility for it.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:53

Couriers should be able to place it where I told them, it’s not a complex place! Surely they’d rather I tell them where to leave it than making them wait around!

OP posts:
ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/05/2019 16:57

Well it was your risk to take and it backfired.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:59

Geez! Maxi... calm down honestly it’s really nasty and just because I’m right Wink you become a sore 12 year old girl!!!
Anyone else?

OP posts:
Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:01

But it wasn’t my risk anyway!!!! Honestly, they arrive, I tell them where to put it,,, they don’t!!!! How should that have been my risk?!?!! Arghh!

OP posts:
Defender90 · 04/05/2019 17:04

Yes I think when you agree for it 'to be left' you take responsibility. Whether they leave it in a specific spot or not.

Was it heavy when it took two of you to move it? Would wind easily have blown it over if that heavy?

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/05/2019 17:05

Of course it's your fault.
But you presumably paid via PayPal/credit card so you'll get your money back.
So you didn't see it until later? Or you were unable to move it until later? Or both?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 04/05/2019 17:05

I really don't see how it is the courier's fault that you didn't take in your delivery straight away and it then - because of your delay - got blown over by the wind and broken.

But I can see how it helps you to feel better about it if you can make it someone else's fault. Human nature, really.

MacrosomicMumma · 04/05/2019 17:06

They delivered it safely. You could have easily seen/ checked on it/ tried to secure it if it was in the wrong place. I'm with everyone one else on this thread so far, unfortunately it was your responsibility once delivered. No point taking it out on people like Maxi, you are angry at yourself and looking for others to blame. It's done now. Either you get the glass replaced or notch it up to experience.

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/05/2019 17:06

And yes, how come you couldn't move it but the wind blew it over? Are you in the monsoon in India that's been on the news?

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:07

It wasn’t the weight it was the distance as I would’ve had to brought it all the way round the house and I was unable to that alone because it meant lifting it which I felt uncomfortable to do alone....

OP posts:
EjectorCrab · 04/05/2019 17:07

It wasn’t broken when they left it, irrespective of whether it was the exact location you asked them to leave it. Did you go out, see it, try to move it, left it to wait for your DH. Returned later with DH at which point it had fallen over. Is that it? I’m not sure I’m following.

MsSquiz · 04/05/2019 17:08

When you ask for a parcel to be left somewhere (safe place, etc) you are then accepting responsibility for it.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:08

Umm.. I not taking it out on maxi!!! The way she was addressing me just felt unnecessarily agressive!

This is true, I noticed this recently when I was waiting for DHL to deliver something and I tracked it.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:10

Canterbury... both.... and see previous post!
