STUPID COURIER!

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 16:20

Ordered a beautiful window from eBay... not cheap! And the courier came earlier than expected and told them to leave it by the house... I didn’t have time to put it away yet and I went outside to find it on the floor and it’s smashed Sad who’s fault is this and what can I do to get money from down the drain (metaphor)

Did you go and see where it was, and it was standing up, but then realised you couldn't move it alone, waited for you DH and then when you both went to move it, it had fallen?

I'm confused

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:12

Crab... pretty much!!!
Mumma.... I mean.... do you expect me to just stand out there all day holding on to the door (ermmm) I don’t think so!

So when you first saw it was somewhere you couldn't move it from alone, but it could have blown over, why couldn't you lie it flat to prevent it blowing over?

I definitely think this is your responsibility - you knew where it was and chose to leave it there, as it was.

gamerchick · 04/05/2019 17:19

Unfortunately I don't think you're going to get anywhere with this OP. It's your responsibility. If it's fell over after delivery then it's nobodies fault but your own.

You saw it delivered and in one piece, it's not the fault of the courier if the next time you went out it had blown over because you should have realised that it might. If you didn't then how do you expect the courier too?

LIZS · 04/05/2019 17:20

So you arrived home, found it, left it to move later but it blew over in meantime. You accepted responsibility when you knew it was there, not couriers fault you chose not to shift it out of the wind. Doubt you can chargeback either.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:20

So because some seem to be unable to understand it... courier call whilst I’m out and say they are at the house and where can they leave it.. I say it’s not ideal but I tell them where... they then leave it round the back. DH leaves to do some errands... I arrive home and just sort of forget about it. As I walk round the back I see it and think ah, I will put that away now. I then realise I will be uncomfortable doing that because of lifting etc Alone. DH arrives home and I say can we do this.. we go round and parts of the glass are smashed (in case this confuses some of the Mumsnetters who get weird about not fully specifying.. the door is on the floor) and well... yeah!

I sort of see the point. Imagine if I gave permission to leave a parcel with the neighbours at number ten, or in the shed, in those instances I’m being specific. If the courier instead leaves my parcel behind the bin and it is stolen/damaged then it should be their liability as I haven’t accepted responsibility for parcels left in that location.

gamerchick · 04/05/2019 17:21

It doesnt matter. You knew it was there, you saw it in one piece.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:21

I couldn’t lay it flat because they’d lef tit in the back garden where we have dogs

MissMary0fSweden · 04/05/2019 17:21

Happened on your watch unfortunately.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:22

Gemme!! My point! It was not in the safe location!

OP posts:
LarryGreysonsDoor · 04/05/2019 17:24

When you told them to deliver it in your absence you took responsibility for it.

Exactly this.
If you ask a courier to leave something in your front porch and it gets nicked or leave it by the back door and it gets wet then that is your responsibility. Once it has left the couriers hands it stops being their problem.

Whisky2014 · 04/05/2019 17:25

So it wasn't smashed when you first saw it?
Yes, your fault.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:25

What if it had been left with a neighbour and went round and couldn’t bring it home so went home to get DH and in the meantime the wind knocked it over...

OP posts:
Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:26

Larry... but it wasn’t in the same place that it would have been safe in!

OP posts:
Hotpinkangel19 · 04/05/2019 17:26

Unfortunately it was your fault.

Whisky2014 · 04/05/2019 17:26

And if you are sure you are right, just call the courier and complain rather than start a thread Confused

Beachbodynowayready · 04/05/2019 17:28

You requested safe place A, they left it in B. Their fault obviously.

MaddieElla · 04/05/2019 17:30

So you come home, see it, decide to move it later and then it falls over.

Yeah, that’s the courier’s fault Confused

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:30

Whisky
I don’t have courier details because it was through EBAY so I have contacted retailer to get details and meanwhile started a tread to see if I had an argument!!!

So you were out but your husband was home? Could he not have taken it in?

Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:31

Ella.. I don’t decide to move it later... I am UNABLE to move it until later!

OP posts:
Hsaansnsn6776 · 04/05/2019 17:32

Fattie... he can’t move it alone either...
