Brands that just can't be swapped out

I'm taking food.

For example, I'm yet to find a decent alternative to Quavers. Supermarket brands are crap!

Ditto Marmite

McVities digestives - nothing compares! Especially when accompanied by Yorkshire tea bags!

Korkers sausages are so good. I don't eat any others.

Walkers prawn cocktail are the best too!

ExpletiveDelighted · 01/05/2019 07:25

Marmite
Branston pickke
Heinz salad cream
Kelloggs cornflakes
Philadelphia (got to be full fat).

Suprised so many are saying Hellmans mayo, I think it's horrible, bland and blobby. Sainsburys French style for me every time.

HugoBearsMummy · 01/05/2019 07:36

@00100001 Aldi quavers and wotsits taste just like walkers imo! Smile

Celticrose · 01/05/2019 07:56

Heinz beans. Once tried branston beans and Dh was not impressed. But my dm likes M&S beans but have not yet tried them

Celticrose · 01/05/2019 07:57

Also a lurpak fan here. My DM will not use anything else or even consider a substitute

Justanothernamechange2 · 01/05/2019 08:27

Coke/pepsi here too.
Cravendale milk - stays fresh longer + theres only 2 of us drink it so less waste or sour milk.
I like cheap beans + tesco mayo and ketchup.
Bit of a coffee snob though - wouldnt buy supermarket coffee

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 01/05/2019 08:36

Aldi quavers and wotsits taste just like walkers imo!

I wish they did to me. Aldi Quavers are weirdly hard, more curled up and the cheese flavour tastes more like wotsits or Doritos than Quavers.

00100001 · 01/05/2019 09:38

The Aldi Quavers are not the saaaaaaame 😭

I hate Heinz beans! Imo Branston beans are the best. Kp dry roasted nuts cannot be substituted, dh won't eat any others. Agree that aldi quavers are the most acceptable, but they're still not quavers! Asdas effort are shockingly bad, so overly salty and cheesy, just nasty.

IndigoSpritz · 01/05/2019 09:57

I bought some Voss sparkling water about a year ago but that was mainly because I wanted two nice reusable bottles to keep filtered water in, in the fridge. The original contents were virtually incidental.

CallarMorvern · 01/05/2019 10:13

Almond Breeze almond milk and Alpro coconut milk.
Heinz beans, though I eat Tesco beans with sausage s as well for the veggie sausages, but they aren't as nice.
Heinz salad cream.
Lea and Perrin's Worcestershire sauce.

CallarMorvern · 01/05/2019 10:14

Oh...forgot the important one..
Diet Coke!
Also used to only drink Schweppes Tonic, but have switched to Fever Tree now.

Persimmonn · 01/05/2019 10:17

Domestos. No other bleach works like Domestos. I love it.

Heinz Ketchup.

Branston Beans

Coca Cola

Hellman’s Mayonnaise

Cheerios. My children know the difference between real ones and own brand.

Jacob’s cream crackers.

Weetabix. Other brands taste weird and are unfulfilling.

Waterfallgirl · 01/05/2019 10:18

Usually like ‘own brands’ but all these I have to do extra top up shops for:
Kellogg’s cornflakes
Quakers Porridge
Walkers crisps
Heinz baked beans
Mcvities digestives
Cream crackers

The other thing that’s better than branded - WATER from the tap!

Persimmonn · 01/05/2019 10:20

I used to think Walkers only made the best prawn cocktail and salt n vinegar crisps, but Aldi are just as good. We always get Aldi crisps now.

outofnothing · 01/05/2019 10:42

Never thought I'd say this but Asda ketchup is better than Heinz

BadTigerKitty · 01/05/2019 10:46

Surely it's simply a matter of the 'recipe' you prefer rather than the brand name per se? And everyone's tastes are different.

For instance, I've always hated Heinz ketchup which is a big name on this thread - love Chef ketchup (Ireland), but that been usurped in our house by Lidl's organic ketchup. Nicest ketchup ever and have converted most people who try it at our house!

Also far prefer Lidl's version of mini-snickers now. They're so yummy.

On the other hand, we've tried loads of different baked beans and we always go back to Bachelor's (never Heinz - yuk)

darkriver19886 · 01/05/2019 10:52

Diet coke, I have tried all brands but they are vile.

MrsDilligaf · 01/05/2019 11:24

I've tried to swap out Anchor Spreadable but I can't abide the Aldi/Lidl versions.

I'm strictly a fairy liquid washer upper too, it has to be the original version as well.

Pepsi Max. Not that filth Coke Zero. Oh no Angry

Other than that, I'm pretty much brand-less!

ElinoristhenewEnid · 01/05/2019 11:33

Heinz beans are dreadful - really watery and hard. 'Treated' myself once to Heinz beans and bitterly disappointed!

Always go for Branston baked beans for taste and texture.

HollowTalk · 01/05/2019 11:44

@TwistinMyMelon You can buy President butter which is spreadable. Asda sells it - or did recently.

IndigoSpritz · 01/05/2019 11:45

I should also mention Sainsbury's hash browns. Easily better than McCain's or Morrison's. I haven't knowingly had any other brands.

HollowTalk · 01/05/2019 12:07

Actually I'm wrong about Asda and President butter - I bought it in M&S.

RavenLG · 01/05/2019 12:24

I think I must be the only person who doesn't care, I just go for the cheapest or least processes version. Ketchup is ketchup, crisps are crisps, they may not taste the same but they still taste like the product they should iyswim?

TheViceOfReason · 01/05/2019 12:34

The only things which i have tried other versions of and outright dislike all available substitutes of are:

Caramelised onion chutney - only arran fine foods has the perfect balance! Love the stuff.

Blue dragon light sweet chilli sauce.

Everything else - though i have brands i tend to buy out of habit or slight preference, i would eat other versions.

On a side note, i can't stand any of the spreadable butters - they are all so oily. Just about bearable as a tiny scraps on a sandwich, but disgusting on toast. Buy M&S or Tesco finest Normandy / Brittany / Jersey butter with sea salt. You'll never go back.
