Brands that just can't be swapped out

I'm taking food.

For example, I'm yet to find a decent alternative to Quavers. Supermarket brands are crap!

Ditto Marmite

OP posts:
DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/04/2019 21:56

Pepsi/coke, although I prefer Pepsi.
Hellman’s mayonnaise

Most stuff I’m too tight to pay for the name brand though.

Poddingtonp · 29/04/2019 21:57

Diet Coke (+ caffeine free version)
Ribena
Branston’s Beans
Bisto gravy
Lurpak lighter (also agree that President is good)
Heinz cream of tomato soup

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 29/04/2019 22:01

Tayto cheese and onion crisps, all other cheese and onion crisps are pathetic.

Binting · 29/04/2019 22:01

My cat will only eat Sheba food. I’ve stopped wasting money trying other brands now, but the neighbour cats have done well out my failed attempts Grin

For myself I haven’t found decent swaps for mcvities dark chocolate digestives or Heinz ketchup (but I did pick up Tesco own brand cornflakes today and now I’m scared they’ll end up in the bin)

IndigoSpritz · 29/04/2019 22:03

There are no substitutes for:

HP Sauce, original variety
Colman's English Mustard
Branston Pickle
Lurpak butter

I haven't tried many ordinary mayonnaise brands but I do prefer Morrison's to Hellman's.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 29/04/2019 22:04

Tunnock's caramel wafers
Heinz beans & ketchup
Diet Coke
Cheerios
Kellogs crunchy nut cornflakes
New York bagels

I'll happily go own brand/Aldi/Lidl for most other things

Curlyshabtree · 29/04/2019 22:05

Yorkshire Tea
Lavazza Coffee
Clover

IndigoSpritz · 29/04/2019 22:05

BTW, Lurpak was £1.77 in Morrison's yesterday. I don't know what happened to separate lines in my previous post.

starzig · 29/04/2019 22:09

Heinz ketchup.
Another fan of Tesco red label.
Coffee. Tesco own used to be good but isn't now, so get dear stuff on a deal.

OhTheRoses · 29/04/2019 22:09

I agree with you all. Adding John West's red salmon - for tea time sandwiches.
Elderflower cordial in the long green bottle.
Cadburys milk chocolate, so often rubbished, not pure ......and yet

potatopeelings · 29/04/2019 22:09

I was just coming on to say Marmite, and you've all got there before me - Diet Coke also.
Hellmann's mayonnaise
Walkers cheese and onion crisps
HP Sauce
Worcester Sauce
Colmans English mustard
Mars bars
Kit Kats
Roses lime marmalade
Heinz salad cream
Nescafe decaff
Flash liquid cleaner

DH has just joined the fray - he says it used to be Cadbury's chocolate, but not any more. There are loads of other makes (we particularly like Aldi Moser Roth) but none of it is the same as the taste of the old Cadbury's.

Cliveybaby · 29/04/2019 22:09

Yorkshire tea
HP sauce
I think that's it! Even when I was a poor student I just stole the teabags from my parents...

DeftandGlory · 29/04/2019 22:10

Heinz beans are sour. Waitrose Essential are like bullets and the one I bought had beans with grey bits. I only eat ADSA saver beans. Nice thick sauce and well cooked beans.

Perrier water.
The Processco with the green label in Waitrose or the rose on offer at Valentines. They are better than supermarket brands.

HeronLanyon · 29/04/2019 22:11

Heinz ketchup
Hellman’s mayonnaise
Heinz baked beans
Oatley oat milk -(all other non dairy curdle - must be my water?!)
Frazzles
Wotsits
Nairn’s oatcakes
East end tinned chickpeas

rslsys · 29/04/2019 22:14

HP Sauce
Rose's Lime Cordial
Rose's Lime Marmalade

WalkAwaySugarbear · 29/04/2019 22:16

Coke
Lavazza coffee beans
Nescafe gold blend
Bisto best granules
Marmite
Every thing else I will happily buy cheaper.

DareDevil223 · 29/04/2019 22:19

@Binting my cat (we shall just call him 'the Little Prince) will only eat Gourmet Mon Petit, thank God it's on permanent offer at Sainsburys. That cat is spoilt rotten Grin

Also Marmite, Diet Coke, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce'

Tiredtessy · 29/04/2019 22:20

HP brown sauce
Marmite
Lurpak
PG tips
Heinz beans and sausages

thenettyprofessor · 29/04/2019 22:23

Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
Hellmans Real full fat Mayonnaise

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 29/04/2019 22:24

I'm genuinely trying to think but a this moment I can't come up with any thing except

Dp only likes pg tips

Or il have the occasional cup of something else if Im visiting a friend but I only buy Nescafé barista coffee for myself but only when it's on offer and I buy 3 or 4 at a time.

RainbowMum11 · 29/04/2019 22:26

Diet Coke
Heinz ketchup
Beans
Cathedral City
Dime chocolate

PlatypusPie · 29/04/2019 22:28

I tried Tesco’s marmite this weekend- strangely runny texture and veering towards the vegemite. Nope.

MiniMum97 · 29/04/2019 22:29

Branstons beans are way better than Heinz but agree you can't downshift brands on beans.

I like Sainsbury's ketchup though.

TamaraDeLempicky · 29/04/2019 22:30

Frazzles

Lllot5 · 29/04/2019 22:31

Was going to say fairy liquid but you don’t that so, marmite, weetabix, hovis seeded bread and anchor butter.
