In all the years of being an iPhone user, I never knew I had an app for this! Podcasts steamed for FREE!

Anyone have some recommendations for a newbie? Particularly something funny

I mostly like podcasts for language learning, but also like the Ted Talks ones, The Philosopher's Arms (Radio 4 philosophy show) and The Guilty Feminist.

Neolara · 27/04/2019 22:06

I'm currently listening to the Desert Island Discs back catalogue and Talking Politics. Both great, but not funny.

I did listen to one episode of My Dad Wrote a Porno which I saw recommended on here. It was very funny but for me, one episode was enough.

My Dad Wrote a Porno 😂

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 27/04/2019 22:09

No such thing as a fish
The Allusionist

Loveluella · 27/04/2019 22:09

I love All Killa No Filla, 2 comedians discussing serial killers so it's fascinating and funny (weirdly!) and Shagged Married Annoyed with Chris Ramsay and his wife Rosie

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 27/04/2019 22:10

.... Fish is funny
Allusionist is educational

Fruityb · 27/04/2019 22:11

Another for My Dad Wrote A Porno - I did it twice and it’s still hilarious and hideous at the same time!

Serial is very interesting - series one was anyway. Two didn’t engage me and I lost focus with three because Porno.

I’ve just discovered We Hate Movies which is a bunch of American guys ripping movies to shreds. They’re quite long but they really make me laugh. The battlefield earth was bloody brilliant for nothing other than the John Travolta impression in it!

Podcasts are awesome - I haven’t listened to the radio in months.

Omahasomewhereinmiddleamerica · 27/04/2019 22:12

Off menu podcast with James acaster and Ed Gamble is good. Richard Herrings Leicester Square podcast

Omahasomewhereinmiddleamerica · 27/04/2019 22:12

Serial and my dad wrote a porno are good too.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/04/2019 22:15

I love Fortunately with Fee & Jane (Glover & Garvey, respectively).

It's very funny & intelligent, they interview one person each week but it's informal in style & their chats are brilliant.

MummaGiles · 27/04/2019 22:15

They’ve all been recommended already, but My Dad Wrote a Porno, Off Menu and Serial.

I also quite like Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness and Armchair Expert. They’re American, but worth trying. You can pick and choose episodes on these ones that might interest you, you don’t need to listen like it’s a series.

That Peter Crouch Podcast is also good if you even vaguely like football.

MargotMoon · 27/04/2019 22:17

Serial - series 1
S-Town
Kermode and Mayo's Film Reviews
Dear Sugar
This American Life

I'm just starting series 2 of My Dad Wrote a Porno

cornflakegirl · 27/04/2019 22:17

Fortunately with Fi and Jane is brilliant. They are very engaging and easy to listen to and also have some great guests.

If you like QI, then the No Such Thing As A Fish podcast is made by four of the elves. They are very funny and clever.

BrillyPribble · 27/04/2019 22:17

No such thing as a fish is my favourite. Also just listened to David Tennant does a podcast with... which are lovely if you like his soothing Scottish tones.

Offallycheap · 27/04/2019 22:22

S-Town is awesome. Loved it.

Also “Teacher’s Pet” if you can still get it. With the upcoming trial it’s been removed from Australian sites.

“Shreds” about the Cardiff 5 is excellent.

And “Revisionist History” by Malcolm Gladwell is just so so reliably good.

I liked “Trace” too.

NW2SW · 27/04/2019 22:23

Table Manners, Jessie Ware and her mum. When there's a good guest it's stonking
