I've by no means led a sheltered life so how come....

...I've never heard of 420/4:20 in relation to cannabis culture Confused.

I'm 51, have mixed with all sorts, shared student houses with some right stoners, have even smoked the stuff myself (many years ago) yet have never heard of "four twenty" until this week.

Anyone else found that something like this has completely passed them by?

What?

BrokenWing · 23/04/2019 21:35

Nope never heard of it either, you don't need to be knowledgable on illegal drugs slang to have not led a sheltered life. So much more to life than weed.

IhateBoswell · 23/04/2019 21:37

What does it mean then? I've never heard of it.

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 23/04/2019 21:38

my teen told me about it on Monday at 4.20 EVERYBODY goes to a location to smoke the reefer.

Ours was apparently a local park.

VanGoghsDog · 23/04/2019 21:38

Yeah, it's all over Tinder.

megletthesecond · 23/04/2019 21:38

I've never heard of that before.
But it does explain why I could smell weed along Piccadilly on Saturday. It's something I usually only smell in our classy town Hmm.

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 23/04/2019 21:40

I always preferred a smoke early evening. Terribly munches if I started before I’d eaten my dinner.

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 23/04/2019 21:44

On the 20th day every 4th month people meet at 4.20 to have a joint together.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 23/04/2019 21:44

Its just that this week, due to the date being 4/20 (in the American format) there have been lots of mentions of it in relation to celebrations and events held worldwide.

Googling shows it was a phrase that originated in the 70s so it's been around a long time

bellinisurge · 23/04/2019 21:54

Nope. I'm old. I've lived a bit. News to me too.
Thanks.

longtimelurkerhelen · 23/04/2019 21:55

It's an American thing.

bellinisurge · 23/04/2019 21:57

Nope. I'm old. I've lived a bit. News to me too.
Thanks.
Also, and here's another big secret, smoking weed makes you really dull to be around.

RezCowgirl · 23/04/2019 21:58

Probably never heard of it be use it's only really been in the mainstream UK cannabis community in the last few years. It's an American thing.

KittensinaBlender · 23/04/2019 22:01

I thought this was going to be about googling Dragon Butter or some such.

We haven’t had a good Dragon Butter thread in aaaages.

thugmansion · 23/04/2019 22:02

I've known 4.20 for the past three years from DSs and work colleagues. I assumed 20th of April being the day they celebrated

Dollywilde · 23/04/2019 22:03

I know it but generally only via Twitter - it’s a US thing and cannabis has never been my drug of choice!

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 23/04/2019 22:06

KittensinaBlender you're not going to catch me out with that one! Grin

I've been on mumsnet long enough to have heard of that so not totally naive Wink

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 23/04/2019 22:07

I've heard of it but I'm on Reddit.

What does it mean? Where did it come from? What is the significance?

TIA.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 23/04/2019 22:20

I knew it, but I live in the US. It doesn’t even work in the UK, because we do the date correctly 😂

caughtinanet · 23/04/2019 22:20

I know about it but I'd say it's only been a thing here (UK) for the past couple of years

DointItForTheKids · 23/04/2019 22:35

I wonder if these folks producing this high quality (and probably very delicious) Welsh butter are aware of the possible confusion based on the other meaning of Dragon Butter?

This is significantly more wholesome that's for sure Grin!!

barryfromclareisfit · 23/04/2019 22:38

OP, I had to google it, too. It seems to be some overseas nonsense. Essentially harmless. I’m ignoring it.

Bringbackthestripes · 23/04/2019 22:40

Doinit I’m too scared to look

I had seen 4:20 on insta so Googled a couple of years ago.

Bukake is a word I had seen on a fail book post around 5 years ago and instantly regretted googling. I have to say these days due to restrictions you won’t be immediately taken to the horrifically graphic video I was directed to. There are some things that cannot be unseen!
