Can be anything

Exactly. And if someone turns up unannounced they take us as they find us. I wouldn't have my kids changing just because someone called in Hmm

Ir are they supposed to permanently live in smart trousers and suits just in case I have to calm them in off the field for an emergency dash to Tesco?

SleepingSloth · 20/04/2019 10:43

My mum is even stricter than me. She came to take the kids out for dinner and DD was wearing a sort of play suit type thing from H&M - a full length summery jersey trouser suit . One of her favourite outfits. My Mum asked her to change because she thought it looked she was wearing pyjamas.

Your mum asked her to change?Shock Did you make her change. I hope not.

I am massively judgy about adults in sports kit - I freely admit it - but have no issue with my young DC in it. They love sports, they play sports, and sports gear is comfy. Plus it's their choice, their clothing.

Obviously not for going out for dinner, or certain events - but for school, day-to-day, weekends, etc.

My (lovely) DM was very prescriptive about what I could wear and for the most part, I hated it. I just couldn't understand why I, the wearer, didn't get a say.

NerrSnerr · 20/04/2019 10:48

It's bonkers that people put so much thought into not coming across as common. Why does it matter? I'm just about to take my little boy out in his Thomas the tank engine baseball cap. I don't want to know someone who judges me for having a child wear character clothes or hats!

Luckily I know people who don't care about this shit.

I popped into the shop this morning on the way to the gym, was in gym leggings and a t shirt. Is this acceptable?

SleepingSloth · 20/04/2019 10:50

My son wears tracksuits mainly as they are comfortable and what teens wear here. He still has an understanding of appropriate dress. He wears uniform for school, smart clothes for family meals/parties and will dress appropriately when he does work experience in the next few months and for the prom next year. I'm baffled by some people's views and genuinely shocked that people dictate what teenagers wear.

DS wears a lot of sports clothes - but then he does sports most days (at least one). He loves specific US teams. He has to wear a suit and tie to achool (they are very strict) so why not? He hates jeans though - no idea why - and would wear shorts all year round given the chance.

longestlurkerever · 20/04/2019 10:54

Yup, my DD loves her battered my little pony shirt from Asda so that's what she is wearing today (and most days when it's not in the wash). Dd2 went out Pokémon hunting in her pyjamas last night I give no fucks what that says about me.

BastianBux · 20/04/2019 10:56

Anything with inappropriate slogans for age. Or offensive.

Lucked · 20/04/2019 11:00

I am in Glasgow and wouldn’t let my children wear team colours in public. I have a lot of memories of grown adults shouting abuse at children in the street because of the colours they were wearing. It is much better now but I wouldn’t risk it. I have actually completely avoided football strips so far.

Hated my young children in black and also bikinis. Some slogans would be out too. I am seeing a lot of clothing for young girls which is faux gym wear and I am avoiding that.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/04/2019 11:04

I remember seeing a pub in Glasgow with a sign that said ‘no colours’. I was (a bit drunk) very indignant because I though it said ‘no coloureds’.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 20/04/2019 11:08

Both of mine live in football kits 😂 my DS has about 30 at 5. He is obsessed and now DD is following him.

They're easy to wash and keep them comfy.

SarahTancredi · 20/04/2019 11:09

longest

I love how small children give zero fucks . How they will go out in a skirt shoved over jogging bottoms and the most faded old top they can find despite a drawer full of new stuff.

How they wander round the house in vest pants and their new school shoes.

Why we have to give them such a complex these days.

I hate seeing parents dress their kids up in impractical clothing. Makes doing anything spontaneous like stopping off at the park on the way back from the shop hard. I've had to rescue kids before because while their parents are sat on the other side of the park on the bench, their child is stuck on the climbing wall as her foot is caught in her stupidly long dress and she cant move . But it's ok cos those pretty little gold strappy sandals look lovely with that dress Hmm

Unless they are sat around smoking and with a can of special brew in their hand why does it matter what the kids are wearing. As long as they are comfortable and can run around.

I wouldn't wear leggings in a million years - but what do you care what I silently think?! It hardly impacts on you. Is it acceptable? Well, if you think it's acceptable, it's acceptable.

My 8YO DD wears leggings, and more power to her.

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 11:18

Clothes with cartoon characters on! Or anything too small for her, has holes in etc.

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 11:21

@NerrSnerr Chavvy, and downright scruffy!! 🤢

SarahTancredi · 20/04/2019 11:25

Chavvy, and downright scruffy!!

Some people better hope they never need some help. Those chavvy scruffy people might just be the ones to help pick your shopping up when your bag slips . Or call an ambulance if you fall and hit your head badly.

Perhaps this kinda stuff should be on like a medical alert bracelet

" allergic to lycra and all who wear it"

reetgood · 20/04/2019 11:26

Slogans. He’s a 15 month old child, not a canvas for someone else’s words.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/04/2019 11:33

Or anything too small for her, has holes in etc

Or to big or stained.

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 11:34

@Crunchymum My daughter walked beautifully until I got her a pair of Crocs! After a few weeks I stopped her wearing them and she still is completely back to how she walked before. They're dreadful things, the soles don't bend with your feet properly as you walk. No proper support. Same with those horrible sandals with the solid sole.

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 11:34

*Still isn't

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 11:37

@SarahTancredi So you're saying that because some^ people have to wear chavvy crap that we should all^ wear it? Hmm

Sorry - not happening! I'm teaching my daughter to take care of her appearance without being vain. Thankfully we don't have to wear that kind of rubbish so we sure as hell will not be!

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 11:39

@SarahTancredi What a strange person you are!

Your posts are bizarre! You seem to be trying to justify making kids look scruffy??

formerbabe · 20/04/2019 11:40

Do you have any idea how obnoxious you sound?

SarahTancredi · 20/04/2019 11:44

Cinnamon and gooseberry yogurt anyone ?

Better hope your kids never spill anything down themselves and God forbid have to borrow their friends asda t shirt..
