What does the phrase 'tossing it off' mean to you?

Both me and my friend agree that it means wanking. However, both of our husbands (who have never met, and are from completely different areas of the country) use it to mean skiving off/doing nothing. As an example -
Me- "So what have you done at work today?"
DH- "Not a lot, just tossed it off for most of the day."
Me- "You... wanked, at work, all day?"
DH- "What?! No! I meant that I didn't do any work at work today!"

(Before people pile in and ask why he's lazing about at work, DH only does nothing at work because they don't give him anything to do)

So is it wanking, or skiving?

It means both!

Tossing around means skiving or just doing nothing productive.

IWantMyHatBack · 17/04/2019 11:33

Tossed it off = skiving.

Tossing off/tossed off =wanking

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2019 11:33

Tossing "it" off means binning something off, cancelling it to me.

Tossing "someone" (him) off, means wanking.

Wheresmyvagina · 17/04/2019 11:34

Tossing off doesn't mean skiving! Dossing is skiving. Tossing is wanking.

FriarTuck · 17/04/2019 11:35

It only has one meaning to me, and not something you'd do at work...

Mapril · 17/04/2019 11:35

It means both, to me.

NoBaggyPants · 17/04/2019 11:35

Toss it off = bin it off, do nothing.

Toss off = masturbate.

Snowymint · 17/04/2019 11:36

Tossing it off means doing something quickly/ easily

Zebedee88 · 17/04/2019 11:38

Never heard of it!! But to me it would mean wanking

LinoleumBlownapart · 17/04/2019 11:40

"Tossing off" means wanking to me

"Tossing about" would mean doing nothing all day.

I can see how "tossing IT off" makes the meaning different but it just sounds too similar to "tossing off" to be taken seriously.

aposterhasnoname · 17/04/2019 11:42

Tossing IT off=skiving, much as I’m doing now 😃

Tossing off=wanking

ScrambledSmegs · 17/04/2019 11:43

Tossing off = wanking

Tossing it off = never heard it before but would probably assume wanking, or possibly throwing things.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 17/04/2019 11:44

IME in the south of England it means having a wank.
In the north of England it means skiving.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/04/2019 11:44

Surely the word for skiving is dossing not tossing?

Persimmonn · 17/04/2019 11:44

Tossing about: mucking around, being unproductive.

Toss it: let it go, forget it, throw it out, throw something.

Tossing off: wanking.

EleanorOalike · 17/04/2019 11:44

Grin Only ever known it as wanking! Skiving/Binning it off would be skipping work.

EleanorOalike · 17/04/2019 11:45

I’m from the North btw.

MardAsSnails · 17/04/2019 11:47

I’m northern.

Only possible meaning to me is wanking.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 17/04/2019 11:51

I'm Northern too and tossing 'it' off means to not bother doing something.

Tossing off obviously means to partake in onanistic pleasures.

IncrediblySadToo · 17/04/2019 11:56

Wanking.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 17/04/2019 11:58

Tossing means throwing here (NE). But tossing off without the IT is definitely wanking

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 17/04/2019 12:00

Tossing off is wanking. Tossing it off I have never heard before so my head first went to wanking then the it in the middle confused me and I did think it might make the meaning different.

AnyFucker · 17/04/2019 12:02

Tosser= wanker

Tossing it off= skiving

VeronicaDinner · 17/04/2019 12:03

Means binning it off to me. Tossing one off would be wanking.

WatchingFromTheWings · 17/04/2019 12:14

Only ever heard it used in the context of wanking!
