As the title says - what do you honestly eat on an average day?

OP posts:
Noninonino · 16/04/2019 16:48

I think I average about 1800 calories a day as my portion size is big.

stayathomer · 16/04/2019 16:49

Today- 3 weetabix, a smoothie ( orange juice, kiwi, Apple, spinach, banana), tin of tuna, some salad ( lettuce, spring onion, cheddar, egg), 3 slices of bread and butter and 2 crackers( was bored, I know!!) , an orange, then An orange calippo, cod and rice and a mini packet of Haribo, can of coke and 2l water and plan on having some kettle crisps tonight as is 4 nights since have just sat in front of the tv

stayathomer · 16/04/2019 16:49

Um, don't k now what that is in calories ...

BergamotMouse · 16/04/2019 16:52

I don't know how half of you survive on so little food!!

I've just had to trial going dairy free to help my breastfeeding son's eczema and the lack of chocolate / crap is killing me!!

So, fairly slim normal (dairy filled) day for me:

3 slices of toast with various unhealthy spreads

Whatever unhealthy cakes / biscuits playgroup has to offer

Lunch: beans on toast / sandwich / pasta and vegetable sauce

Dinner: something reasonably healthy with veg

I'll probably have some fruit through the day and a few more chocolate biscuits. Might finish the day with a whole pack of chocolate fingers Blush.

My dairy free life is much much healthier and even if I go back on the dairy I'm going to try implement some changes.

Me

Up 6am or so

Builders tea, then bananas (x2) or other fruit. I have few pieces.
At work - more fruit around 10.30.
Lunch - I usually have bed of salad (bag from a supermarket) and either falafel or tuna or both on top with tomatoes and salad dressing.
Snack on fruit in afternoon. Or half a portion of whatever goodies are going around the office. I'll literally have half a biscuit, i know it sounds silly but i feel like i am having it, but not too much. So silly...
Home - dinner will be some carbs, topped up with veg and then protein (fish or meat).
If I stay up and don't fall asleep putting kids to bed(!) I'll have fruit again.
A lot of carbs, yup..

To lose weight or if i've indulged recently (I know that wasn't the question) I don't eat breakfast until 11 or 12 (banana) then I eat lunch around 1 (same as above) then maybe something small around 3/4 pm. Then a fruit when I am home around 6. I do this around 2 or 3 times a week. The 5/2 diet in a way, but just in a small time window and less of what I usually eat.

Maybe twice a week I'll be naughty, but that's still usually just half naughtiness. I count alcohol as naughtiness. My family have a determined history of heart attacks ad strokes and I'm scared witless about that.

AnnieOH1 · 16/04/2019 16:56

Oceans of Coca Cola (not diet!), usually grab a couple pieces of fruit mid morning, might have lunch if I'm feeling hungry but usually don't bother. I tend to graze as I prep salad but don't do that every day as I'll prep for a couple days at once.

Rest of family have the salad as side salad usually where I'll have it as a main salad and have fewer/no carbs. Tonight for example we are having a pork loin with cabbage and bacon pasta. I'll have the pork with salad and a little of the pasta.

Supper time (if I'm feeling peckish) tend to grab either fruit or cheese, sometimes soup or noodles if I'm super hungry or have a salt craving!

Lyricallie · 16/04/2019 16:56

Average working day as weekends are a write off.

Breakfast: small bread 400g load of seeded toast with mashed avocado and srichia or potato waffles thrown in the toaster.

10am snack: cereal bar or some celery or some sort of snack

Lunch: depends can be stir fry, pasta, salad, soup basically something that can be heated in the work microwave and a smaller lunch portion

After work snack: maybe some crisps or crackers and hummus

Dinner: depends tonight we're having fajitas.

I also go to the gym most nights and kayak on Thursdays.

phobiafreak · 16/04/2019 16:59

Today I've had

Breakfast
Fruit mixed with natural yogurt.

Lunch
Quorn sausages , scrambled egg, spinach and peppers.

Snack
Pom bears with a can of Diet Pepsi

Dinner
Currently making home made chips done in the actifry (yum) stuffed mushrooms and steamed veg

And probably some sort of snack once I've done the bedtime routine too.

MissyPG · 16/04/2019 17:00

So many people don’t eat very much at all! I love exercise and so believe food is fuel... ok and I’m also a gannet 😂

Typical day

Overnight oats with peanut butter and banana
Latte coffee from coffee machine
Orange juice
Piece of fruit

Snack - not always but maybe couple cocktail sausages or a fibre one bar rammed in my mouth as kids run riot

Lunch - typically lentil soup and bread and butter but occasionally a wrap and cold meat, raw carrots and more fruit

Dinner - soup and bread, beans on toast, pizza if DH away. Meat and veg, chilli, fajitas etc if he’s home

Bedtime snack - cup of tea and maybe a banana, Nakd bar or fibre one bar if I haven’t had one

phobiafreak · 16/04/2019 17:00

That's a day off of work. If it's a working day it's usually a banana for breakfast , subway salad for lunch and then a quick hob meal in the evening.

April241 · 16/04/2019 17:01

Mine varies on what I'm doing.

At work -

Tea while I'm getting ready
B - I take porridge to work then buy a bacon roll (been carting that porridge sachet back and forth for months)
L - baked pot or sandwich or soup or fruit and yoghurt
T - whatever DH makes although I'm learning to cook and following recipes so I'm trying my own spag bol, chilli etc
S - crisps, chocolate, cakes whatever is around

If I'm at home

Tea when I'm up
Pick at the kids leftover stuff all day
Eat tea/get takeaway

Hows that for honesty!! I need to lose a stone and a half so I'm trying to meal plan and make better choices now

londonloves · 16/04/2019 17:04

Today I've had:
Granola and oat milk for breakfast
Two slices of toast with cheddar and some tomatoes for lunch
A Go Ahead yoghurt bar, a mini egg nest cake and some peanuts as snacks
Dinner is going to be Jack Monroe creamy crabby pasta and green veg.
Booze free today. Wine is my downfall.

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/04/2019 17:04

Cup of tea first thing
Overnight Oats and coffee around 8.30.
Banana as a snack
Lunch "massive" Salad with grilled chicken/tuna/boiled eggs. Or wrap.
Snack will be nakd bar and apple/grapes.
Dinner chicken and veg bake/beef curry/stir fry.

I've lost nearly 2 stone since January doing this.

What I ate in a day before was plentiful carbs.

edgen2019 · 16/04/2019 17:06

Have lost 3 stone since August, following a limited diet, but the end is in sight!!!

RocketPockets · 16/04/2019 17:08

Breakfast (sometimes) toast or eggs of some sort
I try not to snack in the morning, often fail at this though, I often snack on ham & cheese 🤦‍♀️
Lunch is often leftovers or soup. Sometimes a jacket potato with salad, cheese & tuna.
Or a salad with eggs, tuna etc
Dinner, I'm trying to do low carb dinners at the moment so curry with cauliflower rice & broccoli, chilli with the same, salmon with cauliflower rice, chicken ranch casserole, cottage pie with swede mash, stuffed peppers, fajitas (obviously not low carb), stir fry.
In the evening I might have some breadsticks & hummus if I'm hungry or some crackers. I don't like much fruit & am allergic to what I do like so I try to pack lots of veg in our dinners!

BallsOfFluff · 16/04/2019 17:15

My eating is utterly atrocious at the moment.

Today I've had;

A pack of pickled onion space raiders.
A trio Bounty.
2 Red Bulls.

Yesterday I had;
Chippy chips
A bottle of full sugar coke
A can of san pelligrino lemon
Dominos (w/ chicken strippers and wedges)
2 Red Bulls.

I am moving house at the moment though in my defence, but I've always been underweight and my teeth are in perfect condition so...

42isthemeaning · 16/04/2019 17:17

Maybe writing this down will make me realise why I'm fat.

Tea, granola, Greek yog and raspberries

Fruit or more likely 2 biccies from box at work

Lunch - soup and cheese salad or quiche / salad & yogurt or biscuit

Dinner - stir fry, curry, panini etc

Evening - crisps, sweets, biscuits

No wonder I've had to use the hair elastic trick to fasten my jeans.

stayathomer · 16/04/2019 17:19

42isthemeaning That doesn't seem horrendous to me

inthekitchensink · 16/04/2019 17:25

Breakfast- tea & coffee, a banana. If really hungry then eggs, toast & marmite.
Lunch - salmon & avocado salad
Snacks - Apple, mixed nuts & cheese, a yoghurt, Coke Zero
Dinner - fish, veg & new potatoes, or a bowl of pasta or whatever. Wine & water

If I’m watching my weight then two big salads a day, no bread or extra carbs.

HennyPennyHorror · 16/04/2019 17:25

Stay I think it's a lot! That's not meant to make 42 feel bad....just seems a lot to me.

limesoda · 16/04/2019 17:26

I eat whatever satisfies my hunger.

Some days that is a massive salad and tons of veggies, some days that is freezer tapas of the beigest order.

I go to the gym 4 days a week and have no desire to punish my body into a shape it will never be, and I just cannot be arsed spending any more of this short life worrying about every mouthful that passes my lips.

It is liberating.

MegaClutterSlut · 16/04/2019 17:29

Today I've had tea, egg spinach and cheese wrap, tea, pickled onions, small snack size choc bar, sweets, more pickled onions Blush

HelenaJustina · 16/04/2019 17:34

Not a whole lot when I think about it. But I like being the weight I am for my height (9st 5ft7) and that’s how to keep it that way!

Today;
Small bowl of museli with some nuts, small glass orange juice and a mug of hot water
Couple of left over blueberries from DC picnic lunch at 1pm
Apple and handful of popcorn at 4pm
Dinner will be home made courgette soup and a olive bread roll.

This is fairly normal for me. I might have a piece of fruit at lunch time and a rice cake at 4pm when working but usually too busy to stop.

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 16/04/2019 17:36

Yesterday

Breakfast: toast with butter, coffee.
Lunch: left overs from roast dinner the day before. So potato, carrots, parsnips, chicken, gravy, broccoli.
Dinner: frozen fruit smoothie made thick so I could eat with a spoon, with sliced strawberries and a wee handful of granola on top.

I might have tea and cake/scone/biscuit if a friend pops round or something.

KOKOagainandagain · 16/04/2019 17:36

I only eat one meal a day, usually around 7pm, and that has about twice the amount of protein and less than a quarter of the carbs in so-called 'normal' meals and I have full fat milk and butter rather than low fat/high sugar alternatives. I don't get hungry in between times and have been eating like this for about 25 years. If I have a cooked breakfast or eat out for lunch I have no appetite for an evening meal. I have sufficient energy and am rarely ill - I can't remember the last time I caught a cold.

I used to follow 'healthy eating' advice and eat 3 meals a day, carbs and low fat and was constantly hungry, about 3-4 stones heavier, suffering sugar highs followed by crashes, had PCOS and was pre-diabetic and caught every bug going.

I had to ignore all official advice, look at foodstuffs in terms of how they are metabolised by the body in general and then learn to read my body and in particular how it responded to insulin. PCOS disappeared within a matter of months, normal cycles and fertility fully restored. I am no longer pre-diabetic. My weight has been stable despite pregnancy and now menopause.
