What should I get from m&s food?

I've never been before, it's far too fancy for us! But going today just to try it.
Is there anything that you really love that I should try?

Salmon & broccoli quiche.

GinisLife · 16/04/2019 14:29

I'm gutted they recently closed our M&S food hall.

shakeapoo · 16/04/2019 16:29

@viques I will do that for you, I have a tortilla chip addiction! OH was away last night so I didn't cook & just ate salted Doritos, holy guacamole (spicy) & salsa. Good times.

viques · 16/04/2019 16:41

Thanks shakeapoo you won't regret it, they are lovely mini sized tortilla chips, in a portioned bag, just the right size to slip into your pocket, and about 100 calories. I don't usually like tortilla chips much but these are a bit crack cocaine, but in a good way.

I like them with hummus.

guffaux · 16/04/2019 16:46

the truffled cauliflower cheese - can eat the full pack Blush its lovely
seafood casserole with some good bread
sea bream fillets
their plain authentic greek yoghurt is nice

bought a thai ready meal from there once - beyond vile [green] it was inedible

guffaux · 16/04/2019 16:47

err Envy -not envy lol

FattyFatCakes · 16/04/2019 16:52

Everything from the bakery. Millionaire shortbread. Fruit. Italian ready meals (usually 3 for £7, good sized portions, freezeable). Cheese puffs. Teabags. Best Ever Prawn Sandwich!

caperplips · 16/04/2019 16:56

I was a die-hard M&S fan as is my mother. Then I switched to Aldi as one opened near me and I started buying a lot of their specially selected range. We love it and for a lot of things find they are nicer than the M&S version.

My mother was sceptical until I served lots of Aldi specially select at Christmas in our house and said nothing. As she was eating various things she was saying 'oh you just can't beat M&S can you?' as this is where I always would have bought christmas food. Her face when I told her was hilarious - she could not believe it!

I have converted her now too!

Bunnylady53 · 16/04/2019 17:13

Disagree about the prawn sandwiches - they used to be the best but have gone down in my estimation. Not so well filled & sometimes seem a bit soggy

lalafafa · 16/04/2019 17:16

Their fruit is the best.
Fish pie
Chicken Goujons
Ready mash
Crispy bacon
Blt sandwich

FattyFatCakes · 16/04/2019 18:19

Bunnylady surely not?! “Our Best Ever Prawn Sandwich” which they brought out last year is legendary!

JAFFA CAKES!!!

Jsmith99 · 16/04/2019 18:57

M&S fresh fruit & veg is expensive, but easily the best of any supermarket.

‘Gastropub’ ready meals are very good. We like the moussaka & the seafood casserole.

‘Dessert menu’ puddings (including ice cream) are excellent.

Meal deal promotions, eg Dine In for £12 including wine are great value.

molemonkey · 16/04/2019 19:00

I love their ice buns with raspberry jam inside! I really want one now 😊

molemonkey · 16/04/2019 19:01

And their tuna fish cakes

EdWinchester · 16/04/2019 19:01

I love their mackerel pate and the mushroom one. Also buy their goats' cheese and halloumi.

Love the deli salmon and all the cold meats and the mozarella with sun-dried tomatoes.

My kids love the southern fried chicken with cheese coleslaw and frites.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2019 19:29

I don’t think M&S fruit is expensive. It lasts and we don’t throw it away. It all gets eaten.

Compared to Lidl where I opened a punnet of babynpeppers and they were all furry. The lot went in the compost. So that was expensive.

HelloGabriel · 16/04/2019 20:01

Cheese pretzel from the bakery.

Their strawberries are the best I've tasted.

Nononononono33 · 16/04/2019 20:10

They’ve already been mentioned but I must second the lemon curd iced buns and iced fruit buns. Also salmon and broccoli quiche is lovely, as is the mixed quiche slices box - I only see that at Christmas though. The tubs of mini cakes are also amazing!

My mum used to work in a factory that made things for M&S. The people from M&S used to insist that conditions for workers were excellent. They inspected everything, including the toilets and if they weren’t good enough, M&S would insist they were improved. I have always tried to support them as a result.

34plus4 · 16/04/2019 21:46

I went, I hated it😩

Maybe 2pm on a Sunday afternoon wasn't the best time to go. The shelves were pretty much bare! Everything I thought I'd like to try from this thread was nowhere to be seen, they must be everybody else's favourites too!

For example I really wanted to try a specific gastropub meal but the one I wanted was the only one sold out, same deal for the pizzas and everything else I wanted!

Also, I could really feel the poshness of the other shoppers and it made me feel abit weird and out of place😂

I put my basket down and popped across to Aldi instead. At least I gave it a go! Just not for me I don't think. Thanks for the recs!
