I've never been before, it's far too fancy for us! But going today just to try it.
Is there anything that you really love that I should try?

OP posts:
Bakingberry · 13/04/2019 08:12

I love reading what people like to buy. Gives me ideas for things to try lol

Percy pigs
Mountain chocolate bars
Small salad pots that are on 2 for £3.50
Chicken fajitas

Bagpuss5 · 13/04/2019 08:13

Yumyums though might just be motorway stores.

NicoAndTheNiners · 13/04/2019 08:15

The cheese and ham toasties. Cold in the fridge aisle to cook at home.

lurker101 · 13/04/2019 08:16

The pizza fries are great - basically oven chips topped with margarita pizza toppings. So much nicer than it sounds - I could eat a whole tray myself!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/04/2019 08:18

Fresh sourdough bread

There’s a lovely cereal. Apple crunch.

Dried pasta is really nice.

Fruit always lasts well.

They do a gastro pub meal, smoked haddock and potato. Really lovely.

Ham pizzas without pineapple.

Beautiful Easter eggs. At the moment. I couldn’t eat them, they are works of art.

longwayoff · 13/04/2019 08:19

Agree that most supermarkets have their own versions of stuff now BUT many things look similar but aren't that great, couple of mouthfuls, bin. However, you can pretty much guarantee that if you buy a marks product, even if you don't like it very much,it will be edible due to quality of ingredients.

Stravapalava · 13/04/2019 08:19

Cookie dough bites.
Apple hot cross buns.
The big plastic tubs of soup are always really nice.
The lunchtime salady things.

cakeallday · 13/04/2019 08:20

Bakery section: cheese scones, focaccia, breads with roasted veg in!
Wine.
Their puddings eg. cheesecake.
Agree with PP about curry in a tin!
The sea bass with cheesy herby breadcrumbs on top.

Their ready meals are hit and miss; things like the curries aren't as nice as Waitrose and are a bit disappointing.

Pedagoogle · 13/04/2019 08:25

Puddings are reliably good, as is the pre packaged steak quality (significantly better than Waitrose) and fruit and veg.

Readymade lasagne is nicer than many other shops and so are their beef wellingtons when we can find them!

I don’t rate their wine department or their pizzas particularly - same ones seem to be available in the Co-op.

Percy Pigs a massive downfall of mine though so I steer clear 🐷🐽🐷🐽🐷

PickAChew · 13/04/2019 08:28

Hand finished Melton Mowbray pork pies.
Their 2 for £5 bacon is lovely. Thick and not soggy.
Their hot cross nuns are the nicest out there.
They do 4 packs of morning rolls for £1 in the bakery which are really Crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside. Perfect for that bacon!
I usually love the Indian meal deals, but there isn't one on, at the moment.
They currently have big 600g packs of their coated chicken tenders for a fiver.
Teas and coffees tend to be good. Again, no special offers, at the moment.
Seasons gold potatoes are British and, imo, nicer than Jersey royals.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 13/04/2019 08:34

The Boeuf Bourgignon ready meal is to die for!
The Dine in for £12 is handy. Especially if you're going away for the weekend!
I think the sandwiches have gone downhill since the cheese & celery days of the 90s.
The crispbakes! Upmarket beige food. The corned beef ones are lovely!

Ratatatouille · 13/04/2019 08:36

Their moussaka is amazing (the gastro pub one, not the regular one). Definitely nothing comparable in any of the other supermarkets I have tried. DD loves the iced and spiced buns for a treat. We also very occasionally like to get the pizza deal where you get a big square, doughy pizza (our fave is the chicken one that comes with the ranch drizzle), pizza fries and another side.

I think most of their party type food can be bought elsewhere much cheaper. Aldi are excellent at this kind of thing now and I'm sure that some of it is actually identical (same factory, same production line).

We would never do a full shop at M&S as it's horrendous value in general, but for the odd convenience shop or treat it's great as our local M&S food is so close by.

Processedpea · 13/04/2019 08:38

Quite like the £3 stir fry with veg Chinese and fajitas are tasty

missmouse101 · 13/04/2019 08:43

The little Swiss chocolate praline eggs....yummmmmmmm!

Honeydukes92 · 13/04/2019 08:43

OMG- the triple cooked beef battered chips! (If they’re not sold out- people go nuts for them here!) They're only £2 (ish)

The pizzas are TO DIE for. We love philly steak out and the whole hog! Would highly recommend! Also the puddings - sticky toffee is my fav! The triple choc chip cookies are awesome too.

TBF I haven’t tried anything I hated yet. MNS is amazing for food, I could never get into Waitrose as felt mns was 100x better food!

I recently shared a pizza with a friend of mine who said ‘mns is overpriced and pointless’ and she RAVED about it afterwards- said it was the nicest she’d ever had!!

Don’t bother with your fruit/veg or essentials but I get 80% of our actual food there!

Usuallyinthemiddle · 13/04/2019 08:46

Oh, those little lemon mousse bars in chocolate that used to be next to the Alpine bars at the till... they are the reason I use self check out now! Wink Are they still there? I can't walk past them...

Gotthetshirt23 · 13/04/2019 08:47

Aldi crunch cheddar is fabulous- yellow / gold wrapper .
I'll seek out M&S to see if it compares !

winterisstillcoming · 13/04/2019 08:50

The port

amusedbush · 13/04/2019 08:50

Percy Pigs.

The "Percy and Pals" version is the best - there's a cola flavoured one Grin I found a bag yesterday while tidying my desk at work and actually exclaimed "yes!" Blush

MissDai5y · 13/04/2019 08:52

Their own brand Brown sauce. Infinitely better than daddies or hp. Cheese scones, not the bakery ones, although they are lovely, the packs of 4 are soft and light and don't have that horrible bicarb tang that you get everywhere else.
The pizzas are very good and the deal at the moment is great. Stretch to a couple of dinners for £10.

LizzieMacQueen · 13/04/2019 08:56

The katsu flavoured breaded chicken is delicious.

They have a good gluten free range, the battered chicken and chilli sauce is lovely.

Percy pigs though I prefer the vegan ones.

GinisLife · 13/04/2019 08:57

I can't believe someone says go to Morrison's instead. Yuk. I hate Morrison's. poor quality.

Blueuggboots · 13/04/2019 09:14

They do a cheese thing that is like fondue - it is seriously the BEST thing I have ever eaten...

Papergirl1968 · 13/04/2019 09:25

Cottage pie, filled Yorkshire puddings, toad in the hole and roast meals for one from the ready meals section.
Their breaded cod is good in the fish section.
Pizza pre cut into about six slices which is two slices each of different flavours.
Chicken nugget ready meals and chicken teddies from the kids meals section.
Their sausage rolls are really good.
Blue tubs of chocolate mini rolls, usually on two for £4 offer. All of the cakes are nice, actually.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 13/04/2019 09:28

I don't think anyone does these like M&S:
Cauliflower cheese
San Francisco sourdough
Hummus
Custard tarts
Mushroom pies
Pink Lady apple juice
Vegetable spring rolls
Thai green veg curry
Empress Grey teabags
Cheese and onion sandwich filler
Cheese coleslaw
Swiss chocolates
Fresh noodles
