What should I get from m&s food?

I've never been before, it's far too fancy for us! But going today just to try it.
Is there anything that you really love that I should try?

There’s a raspberry and Cornish clotted cream ice cream with tiny pavlova pieces. It’s bloody gorgeous!

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/04/2019 12:22

I'm going to have to try the tinned curry, I sometimes get the chunky chicken that I used to love when I was a kid.

huntinghighandlow · 13/04/2019 12:22

Ihavebrillohair I was just about to say that !

TriarFuck · 13/04/2019 12:32

Every time I buy food in M&S (namely every day) I resolve not to do it ever again, because it's pricey.

However:

Butter Chicken
Chicken Piri-Piri
Cottage pie
Fish pie
Scotch pancakes
Salmon and asparagus primavera pasta
Organic milk (it does taste better than any other, honestly)
G&T non-alcoholic
Port
Oloroso sherry
£1 b'day cards, made in the UK - I have a stash of them
Boxed chips
Dough balls
Fresh pasta
Cheese tasters (my equivalent of previous posters' Percy Pigs)
Jalapeno crisp things (a big bag of various different shapes and sizes)
Same, but cheese and chive
Bavarian smoked cheese
Bog-standard Cheddar
Baby leaf salad (better than anyone else's)

I don't like sweet stuff or pastries, so can't comment on them.

I've tried all of the above from elsewhere, and M&S is worth every extra penny.

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 13/04/2019 13:08

I like their Butter chicken meal in the Indian range, the pork pies, quiches, and their blueberries - much juicier and tastier than any others we've tried.
The chicken is very good - Oakham one as whole or breast fillets.
New York Vanilla baked cheesecake.
Ds likes the apple juice and the scones!
DH likes the soups.
We are not a fan of fresh cream but my friend adores their profiteroles. It's her PMS treat! Grin

RainbowMum11 · 13/04/2019 13:10

I don't think it's overrated, the food is gorgeous, the only thing I prefer from elsewhere are pizzas - everything else I've ever had is gorgeous, def worthbit.

PickleFish · 13/04/2019 13:21

I wish they still did their 'cook' range (or was it 'just cook'?) something like that. It wasn't quite ready-meals, you still had to cook them, but it had all the sauces etc. I really liked their pork medallions with a cider and shallot sauce. But I haven't seen that in ages - unless maybe my local is just too small?

Ivegotthree · 13/04/2019 14:33

Their fake Wotsits are better than the real deal.

Good lunchtime salads.

They do a decent spicy chicken pasta ready meal which my DC love. And some nice stuff in their world deli (or whatever they call it) range - eg nice olive oil in pretty bottle.

But I don't rate their meat compared to Waitrose.

Guylian2019 · 13/04/2019 16:04

Their cheesebread cob from the bakery counter is lush. Their Yorkshire puddings from the chilled section are great.

ReginaGeorgeous · 13/04/2019 16:09

Sea salt fudge bites
Iced buns with the jam in the middle
Pork pies off the deli counter
Prosecco

Biancadelrioisback · 13/04/2019 16:17

The scotch eggs

longwayoff · 13/04/2019 18:38

Counting the days to marks and ocado tie up, ooh, might have a party to celebrate.

Chewbecca · 13/04/2019 18:51

@picklefish - I used to love that pork medallion meal that you cooked yourself! It was so quick but felt special and tasted ‘real’. I go to a relatively big branch and don’t see it, or the range in there.

Shelbybear · 13/04/2019 18:57

For me the best thing in the shop is the garlic and onion dip, I cld eat it with a spoon! The burger sauce is also really gd a bit like Big Mac sauce.

Peri peri prawns on a little tray u put in the oven with tiny little peppers, not seen them for a good few weeks though.

I had one of the whole hog pizzas last week and was impressed. It was really big and heavy (terribly fattening) nearest thing I've had to a dominos that was shop bought.

Percy pigs r good too and the Swiss chocolates. The pre packed fruit is usually way nicer than the other supermarkets but is pricey.

I need to make notes of the other stuff folk are recommending!

AwdBovril · 13/04/2019 18:59

DH loves the scotch eggs - the ones you bake in the oven & still somehow come out with a runny yolk. He also likes their Posh Dog (fancy hot dog) sausages. I hate all ready meals I ever tried, except for the M&S prawn risotto, it's a sort of two-layered thing with the rice & "dry" ingredients on the top, & a reservoir underneath with sauce in.

Shelbybear · 13/04/2019 19:07

Oh crustless quiche is nicer than other supermarkets too. Love the Han and cheese one.

Jenniferturkington · 13/04/2019 19:16

They do lemon iced buns filled with lemon curd which are delish.
I like their curries, cambazola cheese, the v expensive prepared fruit, and the sun blushed tomatoes with mozzarella.

MightyAtlantic · 13/04/2019 19:17

If the M&S marketing team are reading this, when are you bringing back the Mississippi mud pie yoghurt? I miss it very much. Sad

Madbengalmum · 13/04/2019 19:20

Lots of things, far nicer than waitrose, and the rest.

Cheese coleslaw
Gastropub fish pie
All the meat pies
Salted caramel profiteroles
White mountain bars
Marzipan bars
Sultana pancakes
The fruit is better than anywhere
So are the stir fry mixtures
Chicken tenders
Pork hog roast
Smoked pulled pork
The salty snacks/tortillas
Greek youghurt
Sandwich fillers
Frozen prawns
Triple choc cookie dessert
Salted caramel cream cakes

nocoolnamesleft · 13/04/2019 19:22

Their "best ever beef burger" is actually the best beef burger I've bought in a supermarket. The little apricot pastries are amazing, as is the fresh cheese bread. The hog roast sausage rolls are seriously addictive. Not keen on the curries, but some of the Italian stuff is more like. Oh, and this time of year their range of hot cross buns brings a little joy into life.

GlitterPixie · 13/04/2019 19:25

Yumyums

hannah9176 · 13/04/2019 19:27

Apple & cashew coleslaw from the deli counter. Could eat that just as a meal 😍

TreesoftheField · 13/04/2019 19:28

Toffee meringues. At £1.70, they won't break the bank!

MissChananderlerbong · 13/04/2019 19:29

I have m and a taste with an aldi wallet... I've tried to pretend the food is the same in aldi but it really isn't. The amount of fresh food that's gone off very quickly from aldi has really put me off.
I love m and s because I KNOW their fruit and veg is good quality. Their tomatoes are somehow tastier too!
My go to items: goats cheese, red pepper houmous, beetroot and goats cheese salad, pine nut pasta salad, their cheesecake 🤤 they do some lovely cordial, and their pan au chocolates are the best I have ever tasted. They do a really chocolatey swiss roll thing which is immense. I dont even like cake that much and I love it.
I sometimes get a voucher of £5 off if you spend £30, so I pop in then!

ScouseQueen · 13/04/2019 19:31

Yes, if the M&S team are reading, bring back the ham and cream cheese spirals. Best snack food ever and nowhere else does them.
