Weird phobias anyone?

I wanted to see if I am alone in this, as my friends and family think I'm mental, but I have an awful fear of......

BUTTONS!!

Even typing it like that makes me cringe. I can't wear them, touch them, be in the room with them! DD and DS cannot have clothes with them on. If there is one on the loose I will leave the house and not return until it is dealt with.

(note: only clothes buttons that need threading are terrifying. Remote control buttons, push buttons etc are all fine.)

Is this a real thing? Has anyone else got any weird phobias they want to get off their chest?

Ladybirds, got covered in a swarm of them when I was 6, head to toe including my icecream, makes me shudder just thinking about it x

@ConversationCoat
When I was 8 months pregnant with ds1 I was sat on nursery floor while dh built the wardrobe. The door fell out of his hand and I watched it come towards me in slo mo. It caught me on the forehead and cut it down to the bone. Hence a trip to a&e on a Saturday night for some glue. Last time I saw dh cry, he was so upset. Been wary of wardrobe doors ever since.

I have the same phobia as you op. I don't even want to write the word.
I am not scared of them but just hate them. They are dirty and disgusting to me and I won't touch them unless I have to.
But we are not alone. This is a real thing and even has a long fancy name to define it. So we can't be that weird can we?

Doesn’t anybody at all have any of my phobias then?

Wind turbines
Bouncy castles
Hot air balloons?

Shopperami I love bouncy castles, hot air balloons are amazing and wind turbines are good for the environment so can't say I share any of those, sorry!

Prawns

If I see someone eating them I feel the same way I would if I saw someone eat a bowl of live maggots or something. They just freak me out. They often appear on ads for places like Iceland or M&S food too and I have to look away. To me they’re just so disgusting and really give me the creeps.

Asta19 Kerry Katona's king prawn ring came to mind! That's the stuff of nightmares for you then Wink

Crocodiles and alligators are horrifying. Even a photo of one and I will be thinking about potential attacks and on constant watch for them for days.

I also recently discovered I have a huge fear of saunas. They apparently give me panic attacks.

@itis6oclocksomewhere YES YES me too!!!!

chocolateworshipper · 13/04/2019 22:16

I know someone with the exact same phobia

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 13/04/2019 23:01

@Kenworthington Hello to a fellow frog & toad phobia sufferer!

It's horrible. My mum has the same phobia so I learnt it from her.
I have three DDs, one is fine with frogs and toads but the other two don't like them.
I even struggle with seeing them on tv.

Has anyone tried hypnotherapy to get over phobias?
