Weird phobias anyone?

Mewithane · 12/04/2019 11:58

I wanted to see if I am alone in this, as my friends and family think I'm mental, but I have an awful fear of......

BUTTONS!!

Even typing it like that makes me cringe. I can't wear them, touch them, be in the room with them! DD and DS cannot have clothes with them on. If there is one on the loose I will leave the house and not return until it is dealt with.

(note: only clothes buttons that need threading are terrifying. Remote control buttons, push buttons etc are all fine.)

Is this a real thing? Has anyone else got any weird phobias they want to get off their chest?

Ships and hills. Both give me nightmares. It used to be new foods, but had therapy with that so now it just causes anxiety lol.

CaptainCallisto · 12/04/2019 18:53

Sticky things. Sellotape, stickers, jam... Anything that sticks to your skin when you touch it. I want to retch just thinking about it! Just the sound of someone peeling back sellotape is enough for me to have to leave the room Envy

StandardPoodle · 12/04/2019 19:01

Overhead water cisterns. The old-fashioned high loo cisterns of my youth were an utter nightmare - thank heaven for low flush loos!

MechaStreisand · 12/04/2019 19:06

Not buttons, but similar: beads and pearls. I'm not afraid of them, but they make me feel very uncomfortable and ashamed, but I have no idea of what or why! I can't bear to touch them and avoid even looking at them.

I also can't eat anything that resembles beads and p**rls (hate even looking at the 'p' word!) Grapes, gooseberries, blueberries, tiny tomatoes, etc. The absolute worst are those tiny silverskin pickled onions. Or those silver balls on cakes. Shuddering just typing that.

Wooden popsicle sticks and tongue depressors. Even thinking about seeing someone suck on a popsicle stick makes me cringe and shiver.

Chickenwing · 12/04/2019 19:26

The sound of a spoon being stirred aghhhhhhhhhh

Driving on motorways and over bridges.
Sick

Crunchymum · 12/04/2019 20:12

I have a very common phobia (Emetophobia) but I also have a phobia of having my BP taken. I'd rather have blood taken or spend an hour at the dentist!!!

TroysMammy · 12/04/2019 20:13

Eyeballs. I would be distraught if I had to have eye drops or surgery. I can just about cope with an eye test and get panicky if I get an eyelash in my eye. I can't watch anyone putting eye drops in their own eyes.

Following on from eyeballs I can't look at a hardboiled egg cut in half. Pictures of cut Scotch eggs in magazines are a nightmare. I also hate seeing a runny egg spilling out over for example eggs Benedict or a simple poached egg. I once had the misfortune to see Nigella cracking an egg into a curry. Dirty cow. Stupid thing is I love cooking and eating eggs cooked all ways. I just can't stand seeing someone else doing it.

Ohhellothereladyface · 12/04/2019 20:17

I cannot bear having blood taken from my arm and instead have it taken from the back of my hand. It usually took the phlebotomist a couple of go’s and my hands would have huge bruises but I literally go berserk if anyone even touches the vein inside my elbow. I have no idea why. Even thinking about it makes me feel faint.

Coveredincathair · 12/04/2019 20:20

Cartwheels & canals!

AJB3001 · 12/04/2019 20:22

milk.... absolutely cannot cope with it.

SoMuchToBits · 12/04/2019 20:23

Oh bloody hell! Can you remove the photo of those holes please. whoever posted it? I just freaked out when I saw it as I have trypophobia. I also have a fear of tap roots on plants.

Also heights, but I think that's more rational as they are dangerous!

SparklyMagpie · 12/04/2019 20:24

Quiche !

I can't even...nope, I feel all clammy just having typed it

WoollyMummoth · 12/04/2019 20:24

Can you have a phobia about a person? If you can then it was Prince.(rest his soul) I couldn’t look at him. He reminded me of a giant insect.

mookinsx · 12/04/2019 20:26

ears being bent.

I know they won't break and physically can bend. But they shouldn't and even someone else doing it makes my toes curl. Can't stand it

nancy75 · 12/04/2019 20:29

Tea bags, unused I can just about deal with, used tea bags make me feel ill & tearful (I obviously don’t drink tea)

AventaRizon · 12/04/2019 20:30

Car washes. Can't bear the thought of being trapped inside a car with all that water outside.

And bridges with small gaps underfoot, so you can see down.

Not all that keen on maggots either.

bobstersmum · 12/04/2019 20:35

Daedriclordslayer I nearly shat myself then. I have trypophobia and that was not good to see! Doesn't scare me as such. Just makes me feel very uneasy.

Hastags · 12/04/2019 20:35

Plasters. Used plasters. If I see one at say a swimming pool or in the street I feel sick.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 12/04/2019 20:51

Chickens. I think its called something like Alektoraphobia. I can't be near them, look at them, look at pictures even cartoon ones, i can't stand the noise the make it makes me cry in fear. I don't go to farms or anything ever in case they have them. Please no one post any pictures, i will throw up and spend all night crying. No, ive never met anyone else with same phobia either

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 12/04/2019 20:57

Frogs and toads. Absolutely petrified of the bloody things.
Used to be scared of spiders but managed to get over that.
