Lyrics that make you say ‘eh?’

Lounging on my Sunday afternoon and listening to an amazon playlist.

Toni Braxton - he wasn’t man enough for me comes on.

The lyrics make no sense

What are you thinking?
Did you know about us back then?
Do you know I dumped your husband, girlfriend?
I'm not thinking 'bout him
But you married him
Do you know I made him leave?
Do you know he begged to stay with me?
He wasn't man enough for me

If she’s not thinking about him, why is she singing to his poor wife that he begged to stay when she dumped him?

Have you any songs that make you say ‘eh? You’re just talking shite now love’?

“Tell me why
I never want to hear you say
I want it that way”

This irritates me beyond belief. I used to hear it in shops all the time and it would stick in my head. It is so, so shit musically, and also - wtf can he be on about?

tectonicplates · 07/04/2019 13:15

"If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends".

Why? I'm not interested in sharing.

Jasmin82 · 07/04/2019 14:26

There's one that me and a friend are convinced we must have heard wrong, but there's no lyrics online anywhere, so we have to assume that our ears are correct:
"creeping up the backstreets cos I'm a jeep"

Jess Glynn's new song

"They say you're no one, until you're somebody to someone"

Hate it, terrible message

Badwifey · 07/04/2019 14:43

The new westlife... I believe it's written by Ed Sheeran
"You know my lips are all I can hold against you... " utter shite

I think it's a Niall Horan one
"Slow hands, like sweat rolling down my dirty laundry"... what??

Spartak · 07/04/2019 14:43

I hate that Jess Glynn song as well.

Apparently I've been no-one for the last decade....

Palominoo · 07/04/2019 14:51

What rhymes with Hug me?

Me - Rugby?

Palominoo · 07/04/2019 14:52

Are we humans or are we dancer?

I'm still wondering.

hidinginthenightgarden · 07/04/2019 14:58

“I love you from the bottom of my pencil case”
True love that is!

iklboo · 07/04/2019 15:06

I love you from the bottom of my pencil case”True love that is!

That's the whole point of the song, though. He's a shallow song writer 'thanking' the women who he might have had relationships with but whose names he's used in tunes that made him rich. He doesn't care about them, just the money.

Cattenberg · 07/04/2019 15:07

I don't want to see a ghost
It's a sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
And watch the evening news

Des’ree - Life

Also, pretty much everything by Oasis and Radiohead.

BellMcEnd · 07/04/2019 15:09

Pretty much all the lyrics to Cornflake Girl by Tori Amos. They are v v odd (but it’s still one of my all time favourite songs ever)

BellMcEnd · 07/04/2019 15:10

@Cattenberg That Des’ree song won an award for dreadful lyrics

DoNotEatYellowSnow · 07/04/2019 15:19

"Come and get it at a knock down price" so you're cheap then?!

Black Magic, Little Mix.

brexitdontfuckupmyholiday · 07/04/2019 15:22

The one that really annoys me is 'Look what you made me do, out with somebody new, baby baby I'm dancing with a stranger'. No, your significant other did not make you do that, you did it entirely on your own pal!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 07/04/2019 15:24

Anything by Hozier.

Lovely tunes, but his lyrics are like something a very earnest A level English literature student would write as an attempt at seeming deep.

MockerstheFeManist · 07/04/2019 15:42

Toto. Africa. WTF?

Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serenghetti....

It doesn't, it's nowhere near the Serenghetti, and it's about three times as high as your puny Greek hillock.

huggybear · 07/04/2019 15:45

Human is based on a Hunter S Thompson quote.

MoreSlidingDoors · 07/04/2019 15:48

“I love you from the bottom of my pencil case”
True love that is!

One of the best song lyrics of all time.

MoreSlidingDoors · 07/04/2019 15:48

Nothing by Take That makes sense to me.

JustRestingForNow · 07/04/2019 15:50

How about that song about having hair that grows in all the right places?

Some lyricists must think their listeners are dense!

Hobbes8 · 07/04/2019 15:52

Can’t believe no one has mentioned “I’m as serious as cancer when I say that rhythm is a dancer”

PeachNut · 07/04/2019 15:52

Promise Me - Beverley Craven

You light up another cigarette and I pour the wine
It's four o'clock in the morning and it's starting to get light
Now I'm right where I wanna be, losing track of time
But I wish that it was still last night…

How can she be losing track of time, when she knows it’s 4am?! That’s annoyed me for almost 30 years.

JustRestingForNow · 07/04/2019 15:55

Thought of another one. In Hotel California he asks for wine, and is told, ungrammatically but also incorrectly, “we ain’t had that spirit here since 1969”.

Since when was wine a spirit?
