Face hair. In tears and pic included

I'm sick of shaving

I'm sick of being 28 years old and having to shave twice a day

I'm aching. I have to wear inches of makeup to cover my stubble

I'm all bumpy and rashy, and disgusting

Can someone please just recommend the best Philips Lumea? Will it work? I'm confused at the entire range and my head is sore from trying to work out which will be the strongest for my mess of a face, neck, chin and sideburns

Thank you SadBlush

Go to a different GP. They should not be dismissive, tell them that your mental health is being affected and you can't face doing day to day things such as leaving your house.
You poor thing x Hope you get the support you deserve Flowers

Kaddm · 02/04/2019 16:31

If you can let it grow for 2 or 3 days it should be long enough for precision tweezers. I suffer from the same problem and use a magnifying mirror, light and tweezers. It takes a long long time and you will have to keep at it but it sounds like it’s occupying a huge amount of headspace anyway. Electrolysis didn’t work for me, even though I had several sessions it was temporary.

ScreamingLadySutch · 02/04/2019 16:36

So sorry OP, do you think you might have PCOS?

A strict no carb diet can help this, apparently.

Otherwise, laser hair removal

Sorry from us who mentioned razors! It looks like you have found a solution, so hope it goes well for you OP.

There are millions of the wee fuckers 🙁

Tweezers won't even make a dent it in

Mum plucked them for me once, didn't even get half done and she had a torch and expensive tweezers from Sephora

Tweezerman ones, I think

I havent read the whole thread but I have a lumea. I had a bad problem with ingrowing bikini line hairs (at the top and sides) due to a terrible wax I had at a salon (I think the was was not hot enough and every single hair seemed to be ingrowing). I have used the lumea about 10 times in total so far and whilst I still get some hair and need to shave, its nowhere like it was. Its also significantly reduced by under arm hair. I dont use it as much as I should, but it works.

I get a few rogue hairs on my face and under my chin. I find the best thing is to use an epilator or shave , wait 24 -48 hours, then use the lumea. SOm ehairs seem to grow back very thin, or they dont regrow.

Its well worth the money, I got it when amazon had a black friday so it was much cheaper. It works best with paler skin and dark hairs so should be good on your chin.

Ohallright · 02/04/2019 16:40

Hi, that was me 30 years ago! About 4 years ago, I discovered the Philips Lumea. It takes time, but a. The hair does not grow back stubbly and b) all the problems you have, pale skin and dark, thick hair - make it ideal. I also use/used it on arms successfully and can now wear bare arms.
I suffered from PCOS

JMAngel1 · 02/04/2019 16:41

You dkuld try a supplement called DIM - it's really helped me with weight gain, acne around my jaw and I had been having coarse dark chin/jaw hairs which have gone - it's more just like a white peach fuzz now which I just use a rotating shaver to get rid of completely from Amazon. You need to get to the root of the hormonal problem which is what the DIM has done for me. I also get it off Amazon - started working amazingly within 3 weeks. if you google Eric Berg on Youtube Oestrogen Dominance - he explains it way better than I could!

Tighnabruaich · 02/04/2019 16:41

You are getting lots of good advice. I just want to add some shaving advice, while you wait for the more permanent solution. Can I suggest that you use shaving oil instead of foam or whatever you are using at the moment. It may soften things up, and not leave you so red and sore. I can recommend it.

Ohallright · 02/04/2019 16:41

Sorry, I don’t know which Lumea is best, as mine in now old technology.

Noloudnoises · 02/04/2019 16:42

Please please look into laser hair removal. I've just had two sessions of laser on my armpits and bikini and already half gone.

If you're willing to pay for a lumea then if it were me I'd go for broke and do the laser. It honestly, honestly doesn't hurt. At all. I've had IPL which is shit and hugely painful.

The laser machine I'm having mine done with is a Soprano Ice machine. I looked up the clinic that that dr Leah who won the apprentice uses and it's that machine.

ClosdesMouches · 02/04/2019 16:42

For anyone who believes that the cause of their excess hair growth is hormonal (whether pregnancy, PCOS, menopause etc) laser or IPL may not work and may make the growth worse.
My SIL does laser and IPL professionally and she always advises women with hormonal growth that it may not work and recommends electrolysis instead. Sometimes her clients go ahead and give laser or IPL a try and for some it does work but for others it makes the hair worse.
Google 'laser for hormonal hair growth' for more information.

FuckSakeFuckOffFelicia · 02/04/2019 16:45

Thanks for the oil recommendation!

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 16:49

you can't have electrolysis on that amount of hair (believe me I know) it would take forever, be really painful and you can get a terrible rash.

Honestly the Lumea does work. I put mine on a credit card because I was so sick of it. And as you are shaving at the moment it won't be complicated to use. I have the corded/cordless one with two attachments, I think its the cheapest Prestige model and its brilliant. I bought it mainly for my chin but I've now done my legs and bikini line and underarms plus my dds underarms!!

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 16:50

For anyone who believes that the cause of their excess hair growth is hormonal (whether pregnancy, PCOS, menopause etc) laser or IPL may not work and may make the growth worse

this is not true. There's nothing magical about hormonal hair. Yes, it might take longer to clear and won't get rid of it forever, but no laser does that for any type of hair. Sorry but its rubbish. I am menopausal and its worked a treat.

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 16:51

Its actually really annoyed me that she says it might make it worse. That's simply not true.

NoNailsNoLife · 02/04/2019 16:51

Forget laser if it's hormonal hair growth - it can make it worse in the long run!

I can't say this enough - electrolysis is the way forward! it is painful (but bearable) not cheap, and will take at least a year, but I can honestly say it has changed my life and I wish I'd started it years ago. If you stick with it you won't regret it.

Also - know that you're not alone! The majority of my female friends/colleagues do some sort of regular facial hair removal, they just don't talk about it!

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 16:54

If you're willing to pay for a lumea then if it were me I'd go for broke and do the laser

My lumea cost 250

to laser my legs, bikini, underarms and face would cost thousands!

I promise you I don't work for Phillips Grin but it does work. No, it doesn't clear the hair forever, but as I say it has killed all the little dark follicles and the hair is finer and less dark. I shave it off and it takes a good couple of days to grow back, less everytime I use it. Its quick, convenient and worth the money.

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 16:54

Forget laser if it's hormonal hair growth - it can make it worse in the long run!

where is the evidence for this?

Ohallright · 02/04/2019 16:55

I do think it sounds like PCOS, I got pregnant when waiting for the diagnosis to come through, so you can get pregnant and still have it.
As well as the Lumea ( give yourself a good 3 months of treatment) do take note of the low carb diet. There are a lovely group of people on here, who have loads of advice and are very knowledgeable. Low-carb Bootcamp.

SavoyCabbage · 02/04/2019 16:56

I think you should get the BRI921/00 or the BRI954/00 (that’s the top of the range one)

The difference between the ‘21’ model and the next model up (23) is that there is an extra ‘attachment ‘ Three attachments, rather than two. It will be the underarm one but you don’t need that as you can just use the standard body one.

The difference between the BRI921/00 and the very top of the range one is that the BRI921/00 says it removed 85% of hair in the first three treatments and the BRI954/00 was 92%.

So the middle two models (21 and 23) are the same apart from the extra attachment.

The BRI954/00 is a slightly better machine.

SherlockSays · 02/04/2019 16:58

Mine was like this before I had laser hair removal - at a proper clinic and paid for myself. I pay £60 a session.

I couldn't have it whilst pregnant and therefore haven't had a treatment in over a year - hardly any hair has come back and it's soft and manageable. I'll be going again once I'm back to work and not on maternity pay.

I really, really, really would recommend it.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 02/04/2019 16:59

I've just got the basic Lumea from Boots lumea essential although it was only £140 when I got it last week. I have no idea whether it'll work for me, but I did notice they have a 100 day money back guarantee (not sure whether that manufacturer or Boots) so that's something to consider if it doesn't work.
