Mothers day dinner - what's on your plate?

Looking for some inspiration as I feel I'm getting boring and predictable. Preparing a mothers day dinner this evening and I always go for the usual roast beef or chicken. I had thought about making lasagne but we had that with friends on Friday.

I also have 3 quarters tub of sour cream left over in the fridge....

My daughter is taking me to lunch at TGis sounds a bit naff but i work there and get 50% staff discount

maddiemookins16mum · 31/03/2019 11:33

DD is doing dinner tonight, she has purchased the ingredients and I’ve spied lamb shanks in the fridge. I’m itching to ‘suggest’ they get put in the slow cooker asap but won’t as ‘she’s doing it all’.
There’s also a tub of cream so I’m guessing a pudding too.
I fear she’ll run late with it but am loving that she’s doing it all (plus MIL coming over at 4pm too).

Dh is making us fajitas and nachos, looking forward to not cooking!

Dd and I are having a picnic lunch with Parma ham, hummus, artichokes, cheeses etc and then off to grandma’s (dd’s great grandma) who is putting on afternoon tea for most of the family. Can’t wait!

le42 · 31/03/2019 11:51

My partner is making a selection of all my favourite bits tapas style, a roast chicken, Greek salad, dips, cheeses and nice bread with a class of champagne 😊

SparklySneakers · 31/03/2019 11:56

Dd1 and I are making pizzas and dd2 and ds will have spaghetti. We are making a lemon drizzle cake too and will go to the shop for ice cream for ice cream sundaes.

AgentPeggyCarter · 31/03/2019 11:58

All you can eat Chinese buffet. No washing up, DC will eat happily and be full up and easy to put to bed, so DH and I get an actual evening with a film tonight and everything.

PotterHead1985 · 31/03/2019 12:09

I'm cooking today - in fairness I do all the cooking as my DM hates it.

I'm doing Seared Lamb with Mustard Potatoes and Green Beans. Link below:

I'm cooking, because I love to. DP is keeping the DC out of the kitchen while I cook (and drink red wine) and tidying up after me.

Chicken pie, roasties and veg. Then peanut butter and banana cake!

Originofstars · 31/03/2019 12:55

I'll be having beef brisket rolls and other buffet food at my sister's with our mum and sister's mum in law this afternoon, and I've got a butter chicken curry on the hob for this evening. We use the day as one to get together rather than gifting or downing tools for the day. I did though get a gift from my lad and a card that says "thank you for putting up with me" Grin

Currently cooking a chicken roast for 13 people Confused DH is 'helping'

Snugglesnuggleblanket · 31/03/2019 13:01

We’ve got lasagna but vegetarian one

I was really excited by it but have got in from being out this morning and DH hadn’t put it in the oven with the home made wedges I’d asked him to do. So we’re now all starving waiting for everything to cook.

Hoping it isn’t a disappointment.

Mmmhmmokdear · 31/03/2019 13:04

Hmm let's see.

I made the toast this morning.

I will be making salmon & pea pesto pasta with cherry tomatoes in for lunch.

I will be taking soup and rice cakes to work.

I will also be eating lots of chocolates!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 31/03/2019 13:05

I've had two boiled eggs followed by mushrooms cooked in garlic and soy sauce, with shredded lettuce and mayonnaise. It was lovely! Having tea with DM later; DD is writing her dissertation but I had a delivery of gorgeous flowers from her. .... and more surprisingly, a washing machine two days ago.

BitchQueen90 · 31/03/2019 13:57

We're having boring old roast chicken, sorry OP Grin

Cooking it all myself as usual as I'm a single mum and DS is only 5!

MaMisled · 31/03/2019 14:13

I've had a lamb casserole in the slow cooker since 9am. Hardly any washing up!

Eminybob · 31/03/2019 15:00

This pork belly dish -

Someone posted it on MN the other day so I haven’t tried it yet and can’t vouch for it but it looks lovely (and lovely smells are currently coming from my oven.

BackinTimeforBeer · 31/03/2019 15:09

Don't know - kids are cooking this evening and it's a surprise! I had planned to make pork chops in a coffee brine with spiced sweet potatoes.

FenellaMaxwell · 31/03/2019 15:15

Lunch was spaghetti with a tomato and ginger sauce (sounds weird but it’s SO GOOD).

Dinner will be chicken roasted with chorizo, peppers, tomatoes, onions and garlic, and roast potatoes.

All cooked by me as DH is an awful cook and DS is 2.

AliDran · 31/03/2019 15:24

My husband working, so the kids have told me what they want, and when they are in bed I'm treating myself to some fillet steak, I'll also make a peppercorn sauce with a huge glug of brandy, and chips. I've also got wine, so it will be pretty bloody perfect!

FloofyDoof · 31/03/2019 15:32

I'm ordering a takeaway of some description this evening, I haven't decided what yet.

DD (18) texted from work to say she is not finishing at 8 as expected, but has been told that she has to stay until close as someone has not turned up for their shift and they are super busy because of mother's day (pub/restaurant). DS (20) has gone back to bed with a headache. I was going to cook a big roast lamb dinner but no point in doing it all just for me. I'm home tomorrow and DD finishes at 5, DS is not in work until Tuesday night so roast can happen tomorrow, with half the roasted leg of lamb I'll make lamb tagine in the slow cooker on Tuesday, which is my favourite thing about roast lamb dinner anyway. I'm happy with my takeaway and netflix this evening.

smurfy2015 · 31/03/2019 15:37

Made it yesterday which has been today dinner with 2 portions in the freezer for again. I call it "pie mix"

Mince cooked mixed with baked beans in the bottom of a dish, layered with a thin layer of grated cheese, a layer of carrot and swede mash, another thin layer of grated cheese, a layer of mash, another layer of cheese on top and some tomatoes sliced to finish. All baked in the oven for 30 mins until my oven died but as was already made it was ok to heat up in microwave

Comfort food.

AdaColeman · 31/03/2019 15:41

A little starter of fishy things, then beef stroganoff with rice, all easy and quick! Wine

Blackandpurple · 31/03/2019 15:44

I made a full English for us all (5 of us) and now eating beef curry in the pub after DCs football match. Players fed and now the rest of us

MamaDane · 31/03/2019 15:45

We've had barbecue today with a salad and potatoes. It was very yummy. 😋🤤
