What regular treatements do you have?

So, I am thinking about a career change, previously I trained as a hairdresser when I left school, but currently I am in an office and also a health care assistant on evenings and weekends following coming back from maternity.

Once we move house I will be in a position financially(hopefully), to work for myself as we will be paying off some finances with our equity.

There are a few courses I am looking at doing, but what sorts of treatments do you regularly get, and also how often?

  • Nails (acrylics or gel/shellac?)
  • Eyebrows (threaded, waxed, tinted or 'HD')
  • Eyelash extensions
  • Massages/Facials
  • Semi permanent make up (eyebrow tattooing/microblading, eyeliner, lip blush?)

Do you go to a shop salon, a 'home' salon or are they mobile?

Acrylic nails, I go every 4 weeks for an infil. I go to a salon, I have a regular nail girl she is also my friend so if she changes salon I follow her to wherever she moves on to.
She once told me she earns 50-60k one year being self employed, she does other treatments, lashes, brows, facials, waxes etc etc. I’m in the wrong job ha.

WBWIFE · 26/03/2019 13:03

@BanginHeadache wow!! That is a lot of income, are you near London?

I was hoping for around 20k if achievable haha.

Has she said what she does most of? I am weighing up the options of whether to just do a full beauty course which covers all areas, or whether to start small and do a few individual courses.

I have a mobile hairdresser who comes every 6 weeks.
I used to have a gel manicure and my eyebrows waxed every 2 weeks by the person who does my hair, but do my own now to save money.
Massages for special occasions like birthdays.

@WBWIFE not London no, I’m actually in the North West. Not sure what treatments she does most of really. Most expensive she does are full set of acrylics or lashes / LVL lash lift which I think she charges about 40 quid for that? Does seem like a lot of money to be earning doesn’t it!!

dancingqueen345 · 26/03/2019 13:17

I have gel nails, eyebrow and side burn wax every 3 weeks.

One of my friends runs a salon doing laser hair removal, facials and teeth whitening and is making a shit load of money.

UsernameTaken76 · 26/03/2019 13:19

Gel/acrylic extensions monthly
Hot stone massage bi monthly

Really want to get back to a monthly waxing session. Have found one near me that offers the lycon waxing which I prefer.

Each of these at my hour of me time monthly. I especially love the massage as no talking or thinking involved.

myfairlad · 26/03/2019 13:21

I go to a 'home salon'. Have reasonably regular massages, as they're so much cheaper than local salons (and amazing)!
I also have regular leg and eyebrow waxes
If my therapist was trained I'd seriously consider getting a lash lift (but would have to sub out the massages or wax to afford).

I also have a mobile/ home salon hairdresser but she just does hair. I think it would be a great thing to be able to offer a whole beauty/hair package!
You could also do bridal/home hen do parties.

pasturesgreen · 26/03/2019 13:26

Pedi once a month (just cut nails and file in winter, standard non-gel polish when sandal weather).

Laser hair removal as needed (about 2 or 3 times a year), I shave in between.

Hairdresser about once every two months for a trim, I have highlights put in 3 times a year: it's not ideal but I can live with the regrowth and at £130 a pop I really can't afford to have them done more often.

I do my own manicure and eyebrows. Very very occasionally I'll have a facial or massage (last time I had a massage was two years ago...).

Winegumaddict · 26/03/2019 14:04

I have my lashes dyed and bikini line waxed every 5-6 weeks. Then my hair cut and coloured every 6-7 weeks. I go to a salon for the beauty bits and they cost £18 and my hair is at my friend's house as she has a salon at home and it's about £60.

user1471548941 · 26/03/2019 14:05

Highlights cut and blow dry every 6 weeks for £68.
Gel nails every 2 weeks, £26.
Lash lift and tint when I go on holiday so once or twice a year because the girl I go to is great but at £40 a time, it’s not a regular treat!

kaytee87 · 26/03/2019 14:18

Every 6 weeks I get my hair cut and coloured.
Every 3 weeks I get gel nails and hands plus eyebrow tint.
A couple of times a year I'll get a massage / facial.

BitchQueen90 · 26/03/2019 14:53

I get acrylics every month, HD brows every month and hair done every 2 months.

I was getting eyelash extensions and facials but I've stopped those now because of the expense.

BitchQueen90 · 26/03/2019 14:55

Forgot to add I go to a salon for those.

I also get a spray tan if I'm having a night out or want a bit of colour in summer time. I have a lady who is mobile and comes to my house to do it which is so much easier as I can just pop my dressing gown straight on after while it's drying.

BitchQueen90 · 26/03/2019 14:59

I don't have them myself but I know a lady who does dermal fillers/Botox and the like and she makes loads of money. She's a single mum and has just got back from the Maldives with her DS. Drives a custom range rover. Always going abroad.

Lungelady · 26/03/2019 15:02

Shellac every 10 days.
Dermalogica facial every 4 weeks and a hydrofacial with LED very 4 too.
Pedicure every 6 weeks.
Brazilian every 4.
I go to 2 salons within 3 miles.

Lungelady · 26/03/2019 15:02

Oh and cut and roots every 6 weeks

CakeNinja · 26/03/2019 15:03

From your list I have regular massages and facials.
Do my own nails and pluck my eyebrows, keep on top of my hair removal etc.

CakeNinja · 26/03/2019 15:04

Oh and I go elsewhere for both. Having those done at home wouldn’t feel like much of a treat, I like the peaceful calm of the proper treatment rooms - it’s part of the appeal!

letsdolunch321 · 26/03/2019 15:05

Infills & toenails painted every 3 weeks.

Hair trimmed every 7/8 weeks and a massage every 4 weeks.

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/03/2019 15:06

Eyebrow wax and tint
Bikini wax

All done regular intervals, maybe 4 weekly.

Orangecake123 · 26/03/2019 15:15

Massage every week or every other depending on my mood.

I don't get my nails or hair done and do them myself.

TeethingBabyHelp · 26/03/2019 15:19

I have nails every 3 weeks. BIAB nails. I will only go to a nail person who only does nails though. I've had too many experiences going to general beauticians who do everything and have not been anywhere near as good as a sole nail tech. The one I'm going to at moment has a station in a hairdressers.

Eyebrows once a month - wax and tint in a beautician salon.

That's it for me in a regular basis. I did get eyelash extensions over Christmas and hated them, went in and had them removed after a few days. LVL lashes seem to be everywhere at moment and I am tempted by those!

BossAssBitch · 26/03/2019 15:19

Blow dry once a week
colour every 10 weeks
Do my nails myself (prefer the 'natural' look)
Oxygen and light facials every couple of months
