What regular treatements do you have?

So, I am thinking about a career change, previously I trained as a hairdresser when I left school, but currently I am in an office and also a health care assistant on evenings and weekends following coming back from maternity.

Once we move house I will be in a position financially(hopefully), to work for myself as we will be paying off some finances with our equity.

There are a few courses I am looking at doing, but what sorts of treatments do you regularly get, and also how often?

  • Nails (acrylics or gel/shellac?)
  • Eyebrows (threaded, waxed, tinted or 'HD')
  • Eyelash extensions
  • Massages/Facials
  • Semi permanent make up (eyebrow tattooing/microblading, eyeliner, lip blush?)

Do you go to a shop salon, a 'home' salon or are they mobile?

Hair cut & colour every 6 weeks at a salon
Eyebrow wax every 4 weeks at a home salon
Eyelash extensions every 2 weeks at a home salon

@nerfertiti not London based but from a big city where there is high demand.

I would be converting my garage into a salon, and doing it essentially from home.

I think I'm going to take the plunge! I've decided on eyebrows and lashes for now and then progress into different areas depending how I get on, maybe spmu

Acrylic infill with shellac every 3
Lashes tint and perm probably every 6-8
Brows are micro bladed
Facial and back massage probably every 4 weeks
Botox and lips are now probably every 6m

I'm also a trained beauty therapist and hands down aesthetics is where the money is being made. I think if you train in beauty to a certain level you can then do a shorter nursing course but it was a long time ago I looked into it.

Hair cut and colour every 4-6 months at £80. Shellac nails for holiday once a year at £20. Permanent eyebrows once a year at £300.

Spa day probably once a year from Groupon etc around £50.

Would love to have hair and nails done more often and also semi permanent lashes but can not afford to.

Back massage once a month.
Pedicure about once every three months.
Used to get eyelash and eyebrow tints once a month but started doing them at home.
Don't get manicures because I have a clinical job.

I can't get my head around the idea of paying someone to deal with my eyebrows!
I just pay my hairdresser for a trim every few months and that's it

Bodicea · 26/03/2019 21:57

Oh and hair- highlights, cut etc about every 2-3 months

le42 · 26/03/2019 21:57

@nerfertiti Funny thing is I'm from Newcastle so they would likely be cheaper up there but I have a lovely girl come to the house who does a brilliant job and I have an 8 week old so hard to travel around.

Shellac in my area is £20/25 at small nail only salons.

At beauty salons it's more like £40

Hearhere · 26/03/2019 21:59

I can pluck shape and dye my own eyebrows, it's simple to do and costs nothing, it's not just the money it's the time spent travelling to and from salons

Lvl lashes are great and my beautician does a lot of them but dermaplaning is also worth looking into as it's super straightforward for a one man band, you don't need loads of products and machines, you can charge upwards of £35 for essentially the cost of a scalpel. You'll make your training costs back quickly and it's really taking off.
