What regular treatements do you have?

So, I am thinking about a career change, previously I trained as a hairdresser when I left school, but currently I am in an office and also a health care assistant on evenings and weekends following coming back from maternity.

Once we move house I will be in a position financially(hopefully), to work for myself as we will be paying off some finances with our equity.

There are a few courses I am looking at doing, but what sorts of treatments do you regularly get, and also how often?

  • Nails (acrylics or gel/shellac?)
  • Eyebrows (threaded, waxed, tinted or 'HD')
  • Eyelash extensions
  • Massages/Facials
  • Semi permanent make up (eyebrow tattooing/microblading, eyeliner, lip blush?)

Do you go to a shop salon, a 'home' salon or are they mobile?

I get my eyebrows waxed every six weeks (I have really thin skin and it suffers if I get them done more often, so have to tweeze in between)

Hair done every six weeks - colour and cut

Howyoualldoworkme · 26/03/2019 15:24

I have a haircut and blow dry every six weeks and a microderm facial and full face threading every 5 weeks.
I colour my own hair and keep my nails natural.

Thank you for all your replies everyone. Really helpful.

@BitchQueen90 I did look into that, but it states on all the courses I have looked at that you need to be a registered Nurse and have 3 years experience before taking a course, as you have to be able to prescribe etc. as well. I did consider this with my health care assistant background, but it would be 3 years at uni and then another 3 years experience as a qualified nurse

@WBWIFE I'm not sure you do need to be registered nurse you know... it's quite a contentious issue around my way with people saying that it SHOULD have to be, but plenty of people do it who aren't.

BlameItOnBianca · 26/03/2019 17:07

Manicure - every week
Pedicure - every 2 weeks
Eyebrow thread - every 2/3weeks
Upper lip thread - same as eyebrows

Those are my regular appointments. Hair, facials etc less frequently.

Crikey - am I the only person on mumsnet that goes for a haircut every 2/3 months and nothing else?

I occasionally home colour my hair or paint my nails - like once or twice a year. I shower, shave & blow dry myself pretty much daily Grin

WBWIFE · 26/03/2019 17:40

@dancingqueen345 I had a thorough search and can see it costs about £1500 for them to put you through a non medic course to then enable you to do fillers and botox. From what I've seen anyway! And then you pay more for the fillers too.or you can be nvq 3 qualified beauty therapist which will allow some insurers to insure your business.interesting!

@Gilbert1a I spend the same as you! Absolutely nothing

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 26/03/2019 18:48

I also spend £0, I trim my own hair every couple of months and dye the greys every 4 weeks, I've recently discovered Home Bargains do dye kits for £1!

Katinkka · 26/03/2019 18:53

Facial, nails and body massage every month.

Shelbybear · 26/03/2019 20:52

Not enough!

Get my hair cut about 2/3 times a year. It's long I can get away with it and don't dye it.

The only beauty treatment I get a couple of times a year is lash lift and tint or lash bomb as seems to be the newer thing. I think again it's quite expensive but I absolutely love it and it's does last 4-6 weeks.

Sometimes get my eyebrows shaped and tinted.

Nails very very very occasionally, I grudge it think it's over priced.

I get eyelash extensions and nails regularly. You can make a lot more from eye lashes than nails - but depends on demand in your area

potofdreams1 · 26/03/2019 21:13

Watching with interest as I am considering homebased beauty treatments as a career change as well. Just a bit scared to take the plunge and also outlay/training costs

le42 · 26/03/2019 21:15

Just saw the PP... in London where I am it's about £80 for lashes 🙈🙈🙈 wish it was £20 !!!!

LancashireTea · 26/03/2019 21:23

Massage once a month. Nails (shellac) done whenever I'm feeling flush. Hair cut whenever I can be bothered, though now I've had it cut shorter, it needs more regular upkeep.

Lashes and brows tinted for holidays. I'd love the lashes lifted/ extensions but it is £££ around here.

I go to the same salon for all but the massage, but that is local too.

Where in london is £80??? Is that somewhere rally posh Grin

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 26/03/2019 21:32

None of the above. Couple of haircuts a year.
How on Earth do people find the time and money to spend on weekly manicures etc.

le42 · 26/03/2019 21:35

@nerfertiti

It's £80 for natural set and like £100 for Russian lashes where I live in North London! I don't think it's especially posh... just a rip off here 😂
