FFS I don't OP, but I do go a bit full on with pagan Spring Fertility Festival decorations and put a big erect wang totem up in the front garden and fluttering fanny bunting round the windows.

lunabody · 24/03/2019 00:50

Ohhh where do you get your fluttering fanny bunting @WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo - I need to up my game with my pagan festival decorating

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 24/03/2019 00:54

I saw Kirsty Allsop pay someone else to make it on Telly. All you need is some old scraps of chicken skin and fur from next doors cat.

AwdBovril · 24/03/2019 00:56

AFAI am concerned, Easter decorations are a card from your child, probably covered in bits if feather or scrunched tissue, and, if you grew up in the 80s or earlier, an Easter bonnet for the school bonnet contest.

Do they still do Easter bonnet parades in schools these days? Please tell me they do, or am I now officially old?

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 24/03/2019 00:56

What's an Easter deck, is that special decking laid just for Easter?
Never heard of Easter decorations if that is what you meant. Frankly I've no interest in putting out fake bunnies and eggs on the front lawn, they wouldn't last two minutes round here and what the fuck is Easter grass - do you smoke it?

I send a few cards to relatives, buy a few chocolate eggs, duck eggs and hot cross buns. I might cook a leg of lamb if people are coming over for Sunday lunch. I occasionally go to church because I like an excuse to sing "There is a green hill far away". There will be no Easter decorations in this house - ridiculous idea.

kissmelittleass · 24/03/2019 01:03

What?never known it to be a thing!!

NobodysChild · 24/03/2019 01:09

Easter grass :) I want some easter grass to sit my Equadorian egg from Lidl on.

SilverySurfer · 24/03/2019 02:19

Seriously? Don't.

Topseyt · 24/03/2019 02:33

Easter decorations!!?? Never.

What fresh bollocks is this? I hope it never catches on.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/03/2019 03:17

I usually host an Easter lunch, so have a yellow tablecloth/Easter napkins and some little wooden bunnies to hold placenames. I have dyed and decorated eggs before as well.

That's usually early Sunday morning, or on the Saturday night, because I prefer to go to church not worrying about having to set the table when I'm back!

We did have little wooden eggs that we hung on the potted tree inside when we were children. I think they were a present from the Dutch side of the family though.

Rottencooking · 24/03/2019 03:17

Since when has this been a thing. Confused

feesh · 24/03/2019 03:34

Oh yay, more plastic tat for the retailers to swap for cold, hard cash.

Japonicaflower2 · 24/03/2019 04:40

Easter decks?
Do you mean ducks?
Never 🙄

MoreSlidingDoors · 24/03/2019 04:46

We tend not to decorate the house in memory of a man who was crucified, but each to their own.

The festival predates that story by thousands of years. For some of us Easter isn’t a Christian festival.

newcupcake · 24/03/2019 04:55

Really shocked by people's lack of understanding of the Christian meaning of Easter Confused It's not celebrating the crucifixion at all it's about remembering the sacrifice Jesus made and the fact he overcame death and lives eternally , overcoming death is worth putting up a few decorations for surely ! For many Christians Easter is a more significant celebration than Christmas. As usual the supermarkets have totally over commercialised it though.

RebootYourEngine · 24/03/2019 05:30

On the 31st of February.

maras2 · 24/03/2019 05:34

Does anyone remember the thread about scary Easter bonnet with fox and chickens on?

HarrySnotter · 24/03/2019 05:54

It's already started to become a 'thing' here. In lots of shops there are Easter trees, bunting, various bunnies and chicks etc. for those gullible among us who buy into this commercial shit of us who want to let the world know on social media that they're #feelingblessed/#makingmemories/#eastergoalswithfamalam.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 24/03/2019 06:19

Decorating trees with eggs is a centuries old German tradition, nothing new about it!

We've always done it in our family. Just a few twigs of willow and some egg ornaments that are years old. More like a table decoration than anything. My DD loves keeping the tradition going!

Lardlizard · 24/03/2019 06:23

Haha just seen these replies
What I mean is we have a lovely tree in our garden where we hang decorated Easter decorations lovely little wooden eggs myself and the children have painted
And we also have some rabbit decorations wooden ones ( nicekbws that we also hang on the tree we also plant fresh flowers out in the garden around the base of the tree and it looks so lovely.
Nothing plastic only niace things only
We go have the full on roast lamb diner etc so it’s a bit like a mini Christmas with the excessive gifts and stress

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 24/03/2019 06:28

I was seriously wondering what Easter decks were as a friend was laying decking yesterday and I momentarily got very confused Blush

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 24/03/2019 06:30

bovril you'll be pleased to know my dd's school do an Easter bonnet parade. They all wear them to school on the day and wear them up to the church for their Easter service and back.

Birdie6 · 24/03/2019 06:30

I've never done it and don't intend to start now.

Purplehammer · 24/03/2019 06:57

I remember the Easter bonnet thread.
That fox would terrify even a well adjusted adult.
The effect on a child doesn’t bear thinking about.
