What brand is to socks as M&S is to knickers?

Who can point me to the perfect everyday plain black sock in size 9-14ish?

Fed up of pairing socks in the wash so am going to buy lots of plain black pairs which are exactly the same.

So they have to be durable and good value.

Where can I find such a fine set of socks?

M&S applies to socks too😄 Though I like Calvin Klein socks from TKMaxx.
The hole in the all black socks plan, is that bizarrely some seem to fade faster than others, so you end up with a drawer full of once identical faded black socks, that now don't actually match up

Lumene · 20/03/2019 15:41

Thank you! All suggestions will be interviewed and the winner announced in due course on thread.

I really like BAM socks

Shock

Still, can’t be worse than the current situation. I currently have the faded purple polka dot socks of last resort on. Again. They seem to crop up frequently, I think because they stand out so much they actually end up getting paired.

Thank you Bike. I really like them too but they always seem to shrink. Have you worked out a way to stop that happening or do you just buy a bigger size up?

Pringle socks are my favourite!

PutyourtoponTrevor · 20/03/2019 16:02

Tesco do a supersoft black sock....extremely comfortable

TheQueef · 20/03/2019 16:05

I admire your mission but to save you time just insist that socks don't come in pairs and each foot expresses it's mood independently.
Odd socks is the future.

Summerfalls · 20/03/2019 16:12

Sainsbury socks last surprisingly well and good value for money. Always get my sons socks in there.

WinterHeatWave · 20/03/2019 16:15

Boots the chemist for plain black.
Next for black with funky patterns on the soles so I always get MY socks back, and not some smelly boy-child socks.

OddestSock · 20/03/2019 16:17

I like Pringle socks, I get them from tkmaxx. I recently went on a sock shopping spree and got rid of all my old, holey, odd socks!

pisspawpatrol · 20/03/2019 16:20

M&S do five pairs of black cotton socks for £10 that are super soft and very comfortable.

VoyageInTheDark · 20/03/2019 16:23

Another vote for m&s, got some really soft black socks from there for xmas

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 20/03/2019 16:50

I would also caution against this plan. You may think that pairing patterned/coloured socks is an arse. But after a few weeks of staring at a pile of black socks that you know started out as identical but have now washed and faded to be a plethora of shades of grey at attempting to match them up, you will know what true madness feels likeSmile.

I chucked all our black ones and banned them from the house.

Gazelda · 20/03/2019 16:55

If it helps (it won't), tomorrow is World Down Syndrome Day which is celebrated by wearing odd socks. Wear your odd socks with pride!

Lumene · 20/03/2019 20:18

Thank you so much for all the suggestions, I will investigate.

TheQueef and Gazelda you may be into something.

Nooooo Quantum ! Please don’t destroy my sock dream. There must be a better way.

I shall re-dye them monthly, en masse.

Next. Not m & s, primark or Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s. Has been next for around 10 years.

slipperywhensparticus · 20/03/2019 20:24

I buy Tesco socks with different colour heels and toes and miss match with abandon its quite liberating knowing that your missing matches whilst giving the appearance of being matched

toomuchtooold · 20/03/2019 20:29

M&S men's ones have a little coloured pattern that you can use to match them up. DH has like three generations of them though so there's still the problem with matching.

I get my socks from H&M, brightly coloured as possible. Unfortunately one of my DDs wears the same ones so now I have to sort by size as well. I'm thinking this summer one of us might get the brights and the other the fluorescents.

anniehm · 20/03/2019 20:32

I did this - I bought directly from a manufacturer based in Leicester.

Draughtincluder · 20/03/2019 20:37

Next.

Not m&s too hot and miss-some shrink, some are baggy.

Not John Lewis - really tiny and tight.

Next are the Holy Grail of socks and tights. I prefer the boys’ socks even though I have girls’. More interesting patterns and fit better.

Rarfy · 20/03/2019 20:41

I love fatface socks. Pricey but so worth it. Very comfy and great quality.
