Savoury croissant - grim. Anything else I should avoid?

Why oh why would you put eggs and spinach in a croissant? Avoided that sort of thing my entire life and now I know why. Croissants are to be eaten plain with a coffee or if you are a child then simply with jam. End of.
So on that note are there any other foods that seem like a thing that really shouldn't be and which we should avoid?

Any ice cream with chocolate bits add. Unnecessary and ruinous.

I like savoury croissants. Well, I don't dislike them more than like them. Would prefer savoury filling to adding jam. (Which I believe is also done by adults daring enough to break your rules Grin ). I could stretch to butter (because, you know, there simply isn't enough butter included already!!)

You are correct OP. I see those ham and cheese croissants and think why?! (Yes, I am judging it purely without experiencing it.) I like a cheese and ham toastie, I like a croissant, but not together!

llangennith · 20/03/2019 09:34

I read this and thought yuck. Then realised I've been having cheese&ham or cheese&mushroom croissants at Starbucks for years🙄. Hadn't really thought of them as croissants just as another sort of bread-like thing.

The British obsession with soiling delicious cakes and breads with raisins and sultanas.
Why?

EntirelyAnonymised · 20/03/2019 09:37

I love a cheese and ham croissant

JeremyIronsBenFolds · 20/03/2019 09:39

Agree totally with adding raisins and sultanas to things - Satan's own pet rabbit droppings! Why?!

Banoffee - slimy bananas and sickly caramel - just yuck.

BrinkPink · 20/03/2019 09:41

I used to assemble a tomato, cheese and tuna croissant as a cheap meal when interrailing :) lovely!

But the thing I don’t think should be a thing is vegan/vegetarian “fish” which i’ve seen in the shops recently. I’m mainly veggie but I can’t bear to think what that would be like. I haven’t even tried it so I know IABU about that, but bleugh.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 20/03/2019 09:43

ham and cheese croissant? hell yeah!

Enko · 20/03/2019 09:52

I like Savory Croissants better than sweet ones.

I dont know that there are any foods Im not willing to try with different balances. Its what makes food so amazing that things that should not go together somehow does. (like sweet and sour)

PrincessScarlett · 20/03/2019 09:55

Egg a spinach croissant sounds vile. But a ham and cheese one is just divine.

Lacypants · 20/03/2019 09:57

I like to make bacon butties with croissants

Sexnotgender · 20/03/2019 09:57

I’ll third the dislike of dried fruit, revolting little lumps of hatred.

EntirelyAnonymised · 20/03/2019 09:58

Lacey, I’m on board with that plan

EntirelyAnonymised · 20/03/2019 09:59

Lacy, sorry

EssentialHummus · 20/03/2019 10:01

I used to think like this, but Pret hot ham and cheese croissants changed my mind and my waistline.

Mmmhmmokdear · 20/03/2019 10:03

YABU! I love a savoury croissant. Cheese and tomato is the best filling. I also like a savoury brioche, although Biscoff spread is definitely the best filling for those.

SureTry · 20/03/2019 10:36

I'm having a cheese and ham croissant for lunch today. 😋

alonerinlona · 20/03/2019 10:51

Ham and cheese croissants are foods of the GAWDS

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 20/03/2019 11:43

Ham and cheese croissants are yummy!! Don’t knock it unless you have tried it! Emmental, gruyere and ham in a big squidgy croissant 🥐 s heaven, particularly if toasted! Star

Agree however with PP regarding dead grapes (otherwise known as sultanas etc..) soiling perfectly good scones/cakes/breads etc... grim.

SurgeHopper · 20/03/2019 11:44

Lineeye · 20/03/2019 11:48

I sometimes have a cheese and prosciutto ham croissant too. Mmmmmmm!

TwistedAnkle · 20/03/2019 11:54

I recently made a roast butternut squash and ricotta thing with croissant pastry. It was lovely....

Dried fruit in a curry - just no!
