Wanted- leak-proof coffee mug 'thermos'. Any recommendations?

Want to get DS one so he can take hot coffee to uni with him, to save money and time.

It needs to be properly waterproof, so not those brushed stainless steel ones with the black plastic screw on top and steam vent you can get, don't want a wrecked tablet in his backpack on the bus!; and needs to hold 500mls.

Also, it needs to be in some way 'mug shaped', so he can drink out of it in the same way you'd drink out of a mug.

Any ideas?

I'd definitely say a Klean Kanteen.

Their insulated flasks keep hot drinks hot for HOURS. More than once I've made coffee in the morning and forgotten about it, but then discovered it again after 4pm and found it's still hot.

The cafe cap twists open and closed - when closed its leak proof and can be chucked in a bag (I always tip upside down first just to double check it's sealed), and then when twisted open you drink out of the little hole just like a takeaway coffee cup lid.

I have a 16oz flask, which is the same size as a medium coffee from a coffee shop. They do bigger/smaller sizes but 16oz is perfect for on the go I think.

I have a flask from Tesco. £10. It keeps coffee hot for hours. It's not a screw top or mug. It's a flip top lid that has a lock and a pour spout you drink straight out of.

Has saved me a fortune!

A contigo travel cup. Absolutely water-tight and meal-proof. They aren't cheap but they last and are worth every penny.

Am investigating these all, now!

Just to add, Klean Kanteen also do a solid screw on cap if you don't trust the cafe cap style.

Waitrose do one, can’t think of the brand name!! Really handy as it has a pop-close lid so I can just pop it on the floor when playing with the kids and doesn’t matter if it gets knocked over. Just don’t leave it in the car on a freezing night, mine doesn’t keep things hot anymore 😭

Spandang · 16/03/2019 18:07

Contigo here too. I chuck it in my handbag every morning, no leaks. Have thrown it across the car park accidentally, still works. Smile

FairyBunnyAgain · 16/03/2019 18:07

S’well flasks are great but not mug shaped. Take my coffee in everyday next to my laptop, never leaks.

daisypond · 16/03/2019 18:08

Contigo and Camelbak are both great. Never leak and keep drinks hot for hours. I had bought a couple of cheaper supermarket ones earlier and all leaked before I forked out for something decent. I’ve had them for several years now.

PartyintheKitchen · 16/03/2019 18:08

I second contigo travel cups, I've had mine 4 yrs, it's fab, keeps my tea or coffee hot for hours. Totally unleaky. I bought mine to throw a shop bought coffee into my handbag when on the go with DC, one of my best purchases.

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2019 18:08

Another vote for contigo. They’re totally leak proof abd keep coffee hot for hours.

Holidayshopping · 16/03/2019 18:08

Contigo here. They are screw top and stand no chance of leaking-they are the only ones we could use at school. The stainless steel colour one goes in the dishwasher too

CrazyDuchess · 16/03/2019 18:10

Another vote for contigo! I have 3 in rotation Grin

WhatNow40 · 16/03/2019 18:10

Contigo here too, I have 4 of them! Never ever leaked.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 16/03/2019 18:11

Contigo are brilliant.

But I'd also recommend researching Camelbak - the one I have is really cool, but tall and slim so doesn't fit into a car drinks holder, but may suit your son's needs?

bloodywhitecat · 16/03/2019 18:15

I have a Tefal coffee mug, it is definitely leakproof (it often travels in my bag and has never leaked) and holds coffee hot for hours.

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/03/2019 18:15

If he likes 'proper coffee' this is very effective and easy to drunk from.

Drink not drunk!! I need a nap.

BikeRunSki · 16/03/2019 18:22

Contigo

Meet0nTheledge · 16/03/2019 18:23

Contigo are great but only keep it properly hot for an hour or so.

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2019 18:27

Contigo are great but only keep it properly hot for an hour or so.*

My coffee (made at 6am) is still hot at lunch.

FrostedSnowdrops · 16/03/2019 18:35

I have a bodum. Six years old and going strong.

Holidayshopping · 16/03/2019 18:41

Contigo are great but only keep it properly hot for an hour or so.

That is not true at all for mine!

ArfArfBarf · 16/03/2019 18:44

I also have a Bodum one that’s lasted ages. I saw them in TK Maxx recently too.

Daisymay2 · 16/03/2019 18:45

We bought DS a Thermos Stainless Steel King Travel Mug (£19) which is a Which best buy but Which say it has a volume of 470ml
He takes coffee to uni in it and has it in a backpack on his bike ( with his laptop or tablet). It can be awkward to clean as it is not dishasher proof but once you get the knack of taking the lid apart it is fine.
I got his in Sainburys but be careful you select the correct one!
