Just those 2 questions please..

BlueMerchant · 15/03/2019 13:07

I used the tiny newborn soother from first bringing my son home.

soulrunner · 15/03/2019 13:07

3 days old and he had it till he was 3 years old. I always limited it to sleeping time from the off. When he was three I did the "dummy fairy" thing and he forgot about it in a week. His teeth are perfect and it didn't impact bf (if that's a consideration for you)

Other child: tried the same thing. Zero interest. Sucked her thumb as soon as she could. She's 6. Still sucking it. Im saving for braces!!

RedSpottyKettle · 15/03/2019 13:14

My baby had it from six weeks. She only has it night now. For ages she wasn’t fussed but she was poorly for a while so I let her have it in the day Blush and she does ask for it in the day now but I try and distract her.

Slowcookervegan · 15/03/2019 16:01

My baby was a couple of days old. Her teeth are perfect and shes in her 20s now.

Babyfoal · 15/03/2019 16:08

Yes, from birth

happypotamus · 15/03/2019 17:40

No, but not because I am opposed to them in some way.

happymummy12345 · 15/03/2019 17:42

No I didn't because i hate them. No child of mine will ever have one.

Palominoo · 15/03/2019 17:43

My two are adults. I hate dummies with a passion and whilst I can tolerate seeing them in a baby of six months or under I have to look away if I see a child that is walking and has one plunged in their mouth..

thefirst48 · 15/03/2019 17:44

None of my three had one but my DD is now a thumb sucker which is even worse!

VelvetPineapple · 15/03/2019 17:47

Mine never had one. I decided to circumvent the whole argument about does it delay speech, does it damage teeth, etc by just not using one. Can’t say I’ve missed it.

SherlockSays · 15/03/2019 17:49

She had it from being 48 hours old, she's 8 months now and has only ever used it to go to sleep and she's decreasing that need naturally herself.

HollowTalk · 15/03/2019 17:49

No, I didn't because I don't like them, but the women on the ward with me used them from about the second day.

Petalflowers · 15/03/2019 17:50

No, didn’t like them

SnailorSwift · 15/03/2019 17:52

I didn't use one with DS and won't with this baby. I'm a paediatric SLT so just couldn't.

littlewhitething · 15/03/2019 17:53

No. Never. Absolutely not. Horrible things.

PrawnOfCreation · 15/03/2019 17:54

Yes, I'd seen that there was research showing they reduced SIDS risk. Only at night. Children's speech is fine.

OutwithMyRemit · 15/03/2019 17:54

No, because I just really don't like the way they look, I wanted to see their cute faces unobscured by a mouthful of plastic. I realise that is completely shallow though and I don't judge anyone else for using them (and strongly considered them for my second).

Craiglang · 15/03/2019 17:56

Before I had kids I swore my DC would never, ever have one. With DC1 I gave in at 4 days old and realised I was being ridiculous Blush DC2 needed one from birth (micro preemie). DC3 never took to them, they suck their thumb which is causing all sorts of teeth issues that will need fixed in the future. The two who had dummies have perfect teeth Wink

TipseyTorvey · 15/03/2019 17:58

DC1 was in the scbu for the first couple of weeks so they asked if they could give him one for comfort and, despite always being opposed to them prior to being a parent, I just wanted him to feel soothed. Removed it at 6 months as didn't want it long term then did the same for DC2 just out of habit really. They both slept better with them instead of my boob so totally happy with that!

SnuggyBuggy · 15/03/2019 17:59

Mine never took to one, tried a few before giving up

bourbonbiccy · 15/03/2019 18:01

No I never used one, I don't like them and hate seeing them in the mouths of toddlers. I just thought easier to avoid completely rather than decide wether it's damaging or not to the child's teeth, language or anything else.

SummerHouse · 15/03/2019 18:03

Yes. Just for the cot with second. Learned that after the first...

SpeedyBojangles · 15/03/2019 18:04

None of mine have ever taken them

IWouldPreferNotTo · 15/03/2019 18:07

From about 4 days old. Really useful for soothing him to sleep.

IJustWantToWearDungarees · 15/03/2019 18:23

We weren't going to use one and then DS had to have a lumbar puncture at a day old and was in SCBU for a while and they recommended it for soothing. Priorities shifted and we went with it and it was fine. We weaned him off it at about 18 months without any problems at all. Must admit, I had been a bit of a snob about them before but have now had a complete change of heart.
