Just those 2 questions please..

OP posts:
Ginnymweasley · 15/03/2019 19:28

From about 3 weeks with dd and 1 week with ds. Dd gave hers to Santa at 2 1/2, no problems with teeth or speech. Ds still has his for sleep at 8 months. They helped dd with her reflux and ds was a sucky newborn and it saved my sanity while breastfeeding. Didn't affect his feeding still but on average about 7lbs a week for the 1st 3 months.

nombrecambio · 15/03/2019 19:37

DS was prem and in NICU so he had one to help him develop his suck while he was on IV or being NG fed.

DD had one from a few days old.

I'm a paediatric SLT (of that matters)!

Italiandreams · 15/03/2019 19:39

Another one who doesn’t understand why people are so against them with babies. My mum was very disapproving to begin with but could never really explain why. I understand when children are older they can impact speech but as a sleep aid for babies I don’t see the issue , only the benefit e.g lower risk of SIDS

aidelmaidel · 15/03/2019 19:40

From about a week old. She's now 15mo and only has it in her cot.

needsleepzzz · 15/03/2019 19:41

Few weeks old when silent reflux kicked in, really helped. Took it off her at 15m old

chandylier · 15/03/2019 19:42

On the journey home from hospital
5 days old

parttimeateverything · 15/03/2019 19:44

About 6 weeks with first, never thought I would but he was sucking my finger to fall asleep. Best thing I ever did. I was strict they were kept on a shelf above cot / bed so only for nap/ bedtime never when up / playing. Gave to waster bunny at 2 no problems, did the same with next 3.

disneydreaming · 15/03/2019 19:45

No, but only because I didn't even think to consider one. It just never crossed my mind not because I have any particular issue with them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/03/2019 19:46

From birth until she outgrew it at 4.

beanaseireann · 15/03/2019 20:47

Bought on the way home from the hospital.
Spat out at 9 months when baby got a sore throat. Never used again.
Other dcs used til about 2

SallyWD · 15/03/2019 20:48

From birth. Did the dummy fairy just before she turned 3. She got over it in a couple of nights.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/03/2019 21:21

From day 2

Until he was about 3 1/2

It was a godsend would often sooth him very quickly

His teeth are fine and the ENT consultatant dismissed the idea that it may have caused his ear problems

underneaththeash · 15/03/2019 21:27

Yes, my 2 had one from a couple of weeks (I didn’t want to with DS1, but it did stop him screaming for a bit. DD woukdn’t Take one at all and sucks her thumb. Thumbs are a lot more difficult to forceably remove compared to dummies.

Fatted · 15/03/2019 21:32

Giving my eldest a dummy literally saved my life!! I gave up all snobbery I ever had towards a dummy after having six weeks of the refluxy colicky baby from hell.

Youngest had his from earlier and he did have his longer as well.

Now I don't really see why I hated them so much. Surely something that gives your child comfort is a good thing?!

Skiphoppa · 15/03/2019 21:33

3 days old, and screamed for 3 days straight most of the time. Initially didn’t want her to have one, gave in and it worked! Overtime it was just used for sleeping and then took it away at 7 months when she used to spit it out at night and wanted it out back in every hour. Best thing I did getting rid at 7 months, took her about 4 days to adjust she couldn’t ask/scream for it back as she couldn’t talk and they weren’t missed after the 4 days but definitely helped up to that point

Ambi · 15/03/2019 21:34

From birth. Had no issues breastfeeding with either of them. Used as a sleep aid up to 3yrs.

witherwings · 15/03/2019 22:37

First didn't want one but second needed one as she wouldn't settle with anything else.
She had it from about 2 weeks until about 2 and half. The dummy fairy took it one night and it was never mentioned again!

FunnysInLaJardin · 15/03/2019 22:43

Yes, DS2 had one from birth and gave it up aged about 2yo. But DS1 would not have one. Kept spitting it out. Both DC are fine.

Its useful if they will take a dummy and need it tbh

llangennith · 15/03/2019 23:00

DD1 wouldn't have a dummy though I tried from day one for a few weeks. DS1 and DD2 happily had dummies from the start and as there was only 13 months between them I was very glad they accepted them.

adayatthebeach · 15/03/2019 23:06

I don’t remember exact age but I do know it went flying across the room lol! Just tried the one time.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/03/2019 23:09

Ds1 - tried when he was a couple of months old. Nope!!
Ds2 - at about 1 week old, for sleep. Still used it for naps and bed but less so. Aged 2.

SurgeHopper · 15/03/2019 23:10

Both from newborn.

DS finally threw it away aged 2, DD was over it by 6 months.

wishywashy6 · 15/03/2019 23:13

First did from about a month old but I hated it so got rid around 4 months old.
Never bothered with second

sparklytwinklyfairylights · 15/03/2019 23:13

DC1 from 3 weeks to about 11 months
DC2 from birth to about 2

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 15/03/2019 23:17

Yes with both, I lost count of the times their little shoulders relaxed and they stopped crying and fell asleep as soon as I put it in.

They're now 4 and 6 with no teeth or speech problems.
