Getting married tomorrow and I'm v poorly. What can I take!

Woke up yesterday with a very sore throat, can hardly swallow. Swollen glands and sore neck, headache and joints are aching! Ibuprofen isn't touching the pain from the sore throat and I'm now panicking that I'll look awful tomorrow and be too poorly to enjoy any of it Sad What can I drug myself up with??

Oh no, poor you! Congratulations though...
How about some cold / flu tablets. Lots of fluid, soups etc and rest (easier said than done I imagine!) you can get sprays for sore throats too.
Hope you're feeling much better soon!

Alloverar · 14/03/2019 10:50

oh no, could it be tonsilitis? I currently am going through the same and the doctor gave me some anti biotic which kicked in after 24 hours and starting to feel better. I feel so bad for you, I hope you have a fantastic day tomorrow.

CalmDownPacino · 14/03/2019 10:51

Don't think it's tonsillitis. Have had that before and this isn't that painful.

Night nurse capsules and early to bed (will relax you beautifully and knock you out a bit - a good nights sleep is the best thing for it). Lemsip tomorrow. Good luck!

Shookethtothecore · 14/03/2019 10:56

Sleep as much as you can. Lots of fluids. Hope you get better soon

BlossomCat · 14/03/2019 10:59

First defence can stop a cold developing, it might be worth a try.
If not, advice as above about plenty of fluids etc, and tissues with balm in if your nose is runny.
I hope that you can power through for tomorrow Flowers

ivykaty44 · 14/03/2019 10:59

You can get a spray to numb your throat - taste disgusting but does the trick.
TCP gargle is also worth a try - disgusting but really worth it to clear your throat

caffeineplease · 14/03/2019 11:01

Poor you ! Try pineapple juice ( fresh) it's natural properties are fab for sore throats and Nurafen cold and flu tablets.
Congratulations btw

MonkeyfaceThereturn · 14/03/2019 11:02

Whisky. And more whisky.

MaverickSnoopy · 14/03/2019 11:03

Have you looked at your throat?

Mookatron · 14/03/2019 11:03

Ibuprofen meltlets are good for a sore throat. Also go and ask for over the counter remedies (eg day nurse) as they are much more effective than the off the shelf ones.

OnlineAlienator · 14/03/2019 11:04

I double up paracetemol and ibuprofen - generally cant feel a thing after that Grin

CalmDownPacino · 14/03/2019 11:06

Thanks all, some good suggestions! Drinking hot blackcurrant with chilli at the moment and that's easing it a bit so I'm hopeful I'll survive Grin

Smash the vitamin C. Double Berocca.
Lemsips with Honey every 4 hours. Early bed With Night Nurse. Double whiskey always works for sore throats!

Mookatron · 14/03/2019 11:08

Don't do all the advice at once though or you definitely won't enjoy your wedding! Congratulations Flowers

Myusernameismud · 14/03/2019 11:10

I'm a huge fan of soluble paracetemol for sore throats. It tastes minging but gargle it, so it gets to the sore bits and then swallow it. Add ibuprofen because the 2 work best together. Plenty of fluids, and if you feel like you're looking rough mention it to your make up artist (if you've got on) and they'll make sure you look a dream!

NakedAvenger · 14/03/2019 11:10

Also try some high potency Manuka Honey in hot hot water with lemon. AND then whisky. I can't recommend whisky enough!

CalmDownPacino · 14/03/2019 11:12

I've had a berocca earlier, is it safe to take two?

Thanks everyone.

Raw garlic, chopped up in something like avocado or hummus on bread.. I have done this before an important event and it worked wonders.. burns a little but worth it.

SoupDragon · 14/03/2019 11:22

Lemsips with Honey every 4 hours. Early bed With Night Nurse.

Check the paracetamol dose before! Both of these contain paracetamol.

Cagliostro · 14/03/2019 11:22

Oh no!

Spicy food today to clear your nose
Crisps to scratch itchy throat
Gargle with corsodyl (the proper one not “daily”)

Good luck and congratulations!

imamum21 · 14/03/2019 11:24

get some Tyrozets from a chemist they do help

lickencivers · 14/03/2019 11:27

Get to a pharmacy or GP. do you have a temperature?

INeedNewShoes · 14/03/2019 11:28

You're going to think I'm potty but I recently tried this on someone else's advice! ... Fresh pineapple, namely the core of it. The bromaline in it is a good antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Otherwise, loads of fluids (water).

Manuka honey 10+ (from health food shop) is another natural lurgy fighter. Hold a teaspoon of the stuff at the back of your mouth to try to get it to your throat.

And you can get throat numbing spray from the pharmacy.

So sorry you're unwell just at the wrong time. I hope you get better as the day goes on.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 14/03/2019 11:28

Chloraseptic spray is very good for a sore throat and for really nasty colds the very best all round remedy is Beechams max strength cold and flu tablets. You poor thing - what rotten timing! Flowers
