Woke up yesterday with a very sore throat, can hardly swallow. Swollen glands and sore neck, headache and joints are aching! Ibuprofen isn't touching the pain from the sore throat and I'm now panicking that I'll look awful tomorrow and be too poorly to enjoy any of it Sad What can I drug myself up with??

Gargle with warm salt water (its on the NHS website) My dad does it every night (he's a doctor) I've used it at a push when getting a cold.
If it has spread to your nose, its horrible to do, but snort it.
It's the strongest antispetic there is.
Also take 1g (1000mg) of vitamin c about every 4 hours.
Hot bath. SLEEP!
Hope you feel better in the morning; have a great day!

So I've done lots of the things on this thread! I've been eating raw garlic, I've had two points of pineapple juice, two bowls of very hot spicy soup and some vitamin c! It's still niggling in the background but I feel much better. Have got a case of the soup sweats now! Such a beautiful picture I paint 😂

Ill probably be lynched for this but go to accident 24 if you cant get an emergency doctors appointment and get some medical strength sprays etc normally i wouldn't condone this but this is an emergency!

SoupDragon · 14/03/2019 14:02

Of course it's not a bloody emergency. It's a cold FFS.

A&E to get a throat spray?

Really?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/03/2019 14:34

Mostly good advice OP, ignore the A and E suggestion though. I mean wtf.

Have you got a throat spray? They’re pretty good imo. Hope you manage to feel ok and have a wonderful day tomorrow!

Lweji · 14/03/2019 14:37

Mostly, though, plenty of rest and try to distract yourself.
The stress can do funny things to our immune systems.

Day and night nurse are the bollocks

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 14/03/2019 14:44

You need over the counter Nurofen Cold and Flu, liquid Day Nurse and soluable codeine. Alternate taking the Nurofen with the Day Nurse and the codeine every four hours. Be careful with the champagne on this though!

Connieston · 14/03/2019 14:48

If you can tolerate codeine get the strongest over the counter version you can - Panadol Max maybe (can't remember). Or if you can get to the doctor you might be able to get something stronger. Obv you can't take it for long, and it doesn't agree with everyone but it packs more of a punch. Best of luck and congratulations!

TheFaerieQueene · 14/03/2019 14:48

Strepfen are great for a vv sore throat. Do read the instructions though if you are taking other medications.

IrmaFayLear · 14/03/2019 14:50

lickencivers: You can't go to a GP with a sore throat!

Ime the worse a sore throat, the more evil the cold, so prepare for a tsunami of snot in about two days, plus shivering, temperature etc with a real humdinger of one.

Actually I had a bad sore throat yesterday. I thought I was in for it. I gargled with salt water every hour and drank some undiluted Ribena. So far so good. I don't feel brilliant, but I may have staved it off for a bit.

babybotox · 14/03/2019 14:51

I wouldn't drink on codeine if you've never done that before on your wedding day! Could be disastrous!

I however love doing that...

AmethystRaven · 15/03/2019 10:46

Hopefully the OP is recovered and enjoying a lovely day by now and not off her tits on multiple medication Grin

Mookatron · 15/03/2019 11:29

Oh yes hope you're having a lovely day OP!
