How long would it take for people to notice you hadn’t turned up for work?

I mean, an unplanned absence. So just say, ex day. You decide “fuck it all, I’m staying in bed”.

And then just don’t tell anyone.

How long would it be until some rings//texts etc?

I reckon about 2hours for me.

To answer your question, I never did more than a day at a time.

5/10 minutes after my first lesson was supposed to commence. Students would find someone to ask where I was and my boss would be in touch.

ItsAllGone19 · 07/03/2019 10:32

Depends on what work I'm doing. My current project has check in calls 3 times a day so I'd only be able to swerve work for an hour without someone asking if I'm dialling in.

Other times I'm left alone for days, no contact from anyone at all if I don't go into the office so some projects I could disappear for at least a week and nobody I work with would even notice unless a deadline was breached.

It would depend on which of my classes I was teaching first period.

One class would just all disperse and not say anything. As it’s a boarding school and they are older students they would likely just go back bed so it might take a while for someone to check in. My other classes would go find someone if I wasn’t there after about 5 minutes. From experience (not me) it would only take about 10 minutes for the leadership team to call mobile/home phones if it seemed like the missing teacher wasn’t just confused on the schedule and sitting in their office.

Pretty much as soon as the clock clicked on 7:30am as I'm more or less always early so my boss would think something was wrong if I wasn't on time

Frecklesonmyarm · 08/03/2019 03:41

Depends on the day.

This week most of my team have been on annual leave or in other offices. The team I work next to would probably presum I was in another office.

However, due my job someone would be ringing me for something within half an hour. If I didn't answer or wasnt showing online by 9am, someone would be concerned. Although I work flexibly, I am never in later than 8.

My boss is great. He would definitely be worried. Rather than thinking 'where the fuck is she?'

Depends on the day, who else is in etc. I work only 3 days over 2 locations, so very best case scenario (or worse depending on how you look at it) if I have no appointments they would probably assume that I’m at the other location or TOIL or annual leave. Otherwise, if I have a full diary I’d be missed as soon as the first client shows up.

Eminybob · 08/03/2019 03:44

(My manager works remotely so wouldn’t notice I was missing until someone called him looking for me or I was due to meet him)

Juanbablo · 08/03/2019 06:06

10 minutes. I work in a small preschool with only 5 staff and we wouldn't be able to open if we didn't meet the required ratios.

youngfarmer · 08/03/2019 07:22

In my main job it would be about 10 minutes, because until I arrive the previous shift manager can't handover and go home.

If it's my other job there would be major panic pretty quickly because we have to set up for events beforehand and the event wouldn't be able to go ahead with us!

Mistigri · 08/03/2019 07:31

I work from home so they might not even notice. It would depend who was around and whether anyone needed anything urgent from me.

adaline · 08/03/2019 07:46

About ten minutes, if that.

MutantDisco · 08/03/2019 07:58

My tutor group would go feral because no-one would be there to register them, so probably about 2 minutes30 seconds!

I'm off with a stomach bug today, had to send a long convoluted email to cover supervisor with instructions for each of my 5 lessons very early this morning. I'm currently lying dead in the bath...

Not long as I am a receptionist, and the one who opens the clinic early to prep.
