How long would it take for people to notice you hadn’t turned up for work?

I mean, an unplanned absence. So just say, ex day. You decide “fuck it all, I’m staying in bed”.

And then just don’t tell anyone.

How long would it be until some rings//texts etc?

I reckon about 2hours for me.

When I started my current job, a colleague informed me that you could be dead in your office for 3 days before anyone would notice and only then, because of the smell😁

If I didn't go in, students would complain about me missing lectures after about 3 weeks, I reckon. If I had arranged to meet a colleague, I'd possibly get an email wondering where I was, but not necessarily.

itssquidstella · 05/03/2019 12:29

8.40 if I'm teaching P1. I don't have a tutor group (more senior pastoral role) so could avoid registration at 8.30 without being noticed!

Mmmhmmokdear · 05/03/2019 12:33

They would notice I wasn't there straightaway. They'd probably ring me after about 15mins to half an hour until they got hold of me, to check if I was ok. If they couldn't get hold of me, they'd try my NOK probably.

ScreamingValenta · 05/03/2019 12:36

Possibly quite a while, as I often work from home, so no one would think anything of me not arriving in the office. It would probably be noticed with a couple of hours that I wasn't answering emails or calls; sooner if I was supposed to be dialling into a meeting that day.

elloelloello · 05/03/2019 12:46

I start work any time between 8 and 9 so I’d get a call around 9:30am I reckon

Saying that, my boss is notoriously forgetful so she might just assume I had a day off that she’d forgotten about

Aaaahfuck · 05/03/2019 12:51

It depends as I work at home some days and have lots of off site meetings I'm not always at my desk. So if I had no obligations with colleagues possibly the whole day. Otherwise maybe a few hours or until I missed a meeting.

Biancadelrioisback · 05/03/2019 13:00

Hour and a half? My place had people coming and going all the time and quite often people are up to an hour late

Drogosnextwife · 05/03/2019 13:03

I'm a childminder so I would have to ignore the door 😂

Ninninannanoonoo · 05/03/2019 13:10

I once had to ring a colleague to find out why she hadn't turned up for work. We started at 7am. I rang her at 930 and got a very sleepy "hello?" We had a rather bizarre conversation and she seemed very surprised that I was asking her to come in to work as it was a Saturday. It was Tuesday!

HironsBirons · 05/03/2019 13:19

I was 1 minute late this morning and the children were all outside waiting for me Hmm reckon I’d have until about 7:05 at the very latest before I started getting calls about where I was.

Confusedfornow · 05/03/2019 14:53

Immediately.

MulticolourMophead · 05/03/2019 17:08

I'm the one who generally gets in first, so my boss, who sits at the next desk, would know as soon as they get in.

Decormad38 · 05/03/2019 17:10

I do it frequently as my work is flexible but my colleagues notice every day. I think they miss me- aw 😆

YouBumder · 05/03/2019 17:12

They would notice I wasn’t there right away as it’s a small office, but I don’t think they’d phone until I was over 30 mins late, to account for me getting stuck in traffic

Bonkerz · 05/03/2019 17:14

I would have knocking on the door at 7am (my start time) and the child's parents would prob dump and run lmao

Nautiloid · 05/03/2019 17:18

My colleagues rang me the other day to see if I wasn't coming in...it was ten minutes before my start time.Hmm

BalthazarImpresario · 05/03/2019 17:19

About 10 minutes.

We have to keep our shared calendars with locations updated so if I have a appointment elsewhere at my start time they at least know I'm not due until x time.
If not in the calendar I have to call to check in.

Seniorschoolmum · 05/03/2019 17:22

About 30 mins. That’s how long it took them when I broke down recently. I was holding for the RAC and there they were, buzzing the other line.
At least I know I couldn’t go missing without a fuss.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/03/2019 17:23

If my boss was in - 15 mins. She's a stickler for time keeping, and would find it odd if I wasn't there on time and hadn't called in. If she was off, up to an hour. But my colleagues would check my diary to see if I had a meeting or something they didn't know about.

Witchend · 05/03/2019 17:25

I think it would be about half an hour, but my time is flexibility.
DH overslept the other day. They phoned when he was about 3.5 hours late, more worried he'd had an accident than anything else.

BigStripeyBastard · 05/03/2019 17:27

I misread my rota a few weeks back and thought I was starting at ten instead of 8. My manager rang at 9.35 to check I was alive so about an hour and a half.
About 5 years ago, I was with same company but different role and I was supposed to work Sunday (which I never usually worked) but due to a breakdown in communication, no-one had actually told me. 😁 so I naturally didn't go in. No bugger noticed and it was only a week later when we were processing the time sheets that someone asked me if I had been in that day and we worked out I hadnt been. Everyone was quite confused, including me.....
They are the only times I have ever been awol in my life.

Oldraver · 05/03/2019 17:29

They would probably notice straight away but doubt anyone would chase up as I'm on agency anyway and I doubt anyone has my number.

There would be gossip though

EggysMom · 05/03/2019 17:31

I get into work between 8:30 and 9:05 depending on traffic/method. My boss would probably text me around 9:30 if I hadn't showed up and hadn't got in touch. He'd call me at 10:00 if I didn't respond to the text.

However the chances of DH not noticing that I'm still lying in bed, are zero. So he'd pull the covers off me and kick me out of bed at about 8:00, pointing out that the mortgage needs to be paid!

DaedricLordSlayer · 05/03/2019 17:34

5 mins after the start time of 7am.

Tink1990 · 05/03/2019 17:36

08:59, i start at 09:00! Grin
