Loyalty cards that are actually worth getting?

GunpowderGelatine · 04/03/2019 16:34

I seem to have about 25 loyalty cards in my purse but the only ones I think are worth having are Boots and Body Shop where you actually get money/vouchers to spend in store, and Subway where it's very easy and quick to get enough points for a free sandwich (I only buy 2 or 3 before getting a free sub).

M&S Sparks card is useless - 15p off a donut? Wow. Thanks Hmm and I'm not even sure what a Matalan card is for because I've never seen any points or offers from it.

What other cards are worth/not worth getting?

Amazingly the TOBY app if you go even just a little bit.

I don’t get sparks. What do the points equate to? I get offers emailed to me regardless of my sparks balance. And on the app.

Santasballsack · 04/03/2019 21:47

Nero, every 10th drink is free and the Works card is 5% of everything over £1, 15% if you time it right. I got £25 back from buying christmas gifts compared to most of the a pound a point schemes its bloody good.

BlueSkiesLies · 04/03/2019 21:47

Boots
Tesco
Waitrose for the mag
Amex BA credit card

Tesco ok I don't go often but still manage to get vouchers I use them on Uber credit .
Morrison's I get my petrol from there so I get a £5 voucher every now and then .
Boots usually save my points and treat myself.
Yes I don't get why need a Matalan card either Hmm

GiantKitten · 04/03/2019 21:50

SukisKettle

I find that about 2 days after I've spent a significant amount at Matalan, I get the discount vouchers about 2 days later. I never seem to get them any other time. Perhaps it's a huge coincidence but it's odd. Have you found this?

I know what you mean, Suki, & occasionally that has happened, but I don't shop there very often & they mostly seem to send the emails to lure me back Grin

All loyalty cards are terrible value as you are only getting back the money they over-charged you to begin with. Or £ that you probably didn't truly need to spend (eg. Costa Coffee). Often I get to the till after a long Q and the special offer coupon is just out of date or applies to a slightly different product. Or needs a £50 minimum spend and my trolley only adds up to £42. Just Screw.That.Shit.

I wish Lidl sold everything I want to buy. I'd never go anywhere else.

FrozenMargarita17 · 04/03/2019 21:55

@SukisKettle I get that with Matalan. Really gets on my nerves

TowandaForever · 04/03/2019 22:05

@TheBitterBoy

My John Lewis mailing came today and the coffee and cake voucher was no longer on it!!!

MunchMunch · 04/03/2019 22:18

I do well from my Morrison's points. I shop for other family members as well as myself (including diesel) so it adds up quite quickly. I also get lots of spend £40 get 4000 points - 5000 points = £5.

When the £5 voucher was printed at the till I often spent it straight away but with the app you can choose to save them so so far I've got £25 to collect but I'm saving them for Christmas.

I also use nectar and Tesco but not so much now so don't really get any points/vouchers worth anything.

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 04/03/2019 22:23

I have so many Blush
Tesco
Subway
Nectar
B and q- good for random promotions
Beefeater
Table table
Brewers fayre
Dw fitness
Plus apps:
Greggs
Tgi Fridays

Think that's about it Hmm

Elphame · 04/03/2019 22:28

I don't use any of them. The few rewards you get are chicken feed for the value of the data they get.

When they start paying me properly for the value of my data then I might reconsider - but probably not

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/03/2019 22:30

Waitrose for the coffee - I'm in there every other day. Also get my free weekend paper.

Not exactly a loyalty card but my John Lewis credit card builds up the points up nicely and I get a quarterly treat of JL vouchers.

When I was working I used to do a top up lunchtime shop at Tesco. The points I collected used to cover my annual RAC membership.

pongopig · 04/03/2019 22:30

Going against the consensus here but I think the Costa card is terrible value - when I buy a £2.95 coffee I get 10 points worth 10p. So I need to buy 29.5 coffees to get one free. Whereas at McDonalds or Cafe Nero I get a free cup after buying 6 or 9 cups.

Mysterycat23 · 04/03/2019 22:40

H and M. Can get 15% off just for having a card. Also random vouchers via the app.

Msgiggles30 · 04/03/2019 22:45

Apart from boots and Tescos..nandos Grin

didireallysaythat · 04/03/2019 22:52

Tesco for Eurotunnel vouchers but that's about it here.

SimplyPut · 04/03/2019 22:53

Nectar - lots of bonus vouchers
Boots - only use one extra point days

I love the local independent stampers offers more...
bakery - buy 10 loaves get one free
Soft play - visit 9 times 10th visit free
Nail salon - every 9th manicure is free
Coffee shop - every 6th coffee free

TheBitterBoy · 04/03/2019 23:04

@TowandaForever, that happened to my MIL and when she queried it they said they only send it out to regular shoppers, she'd gone six months just using the cake vouchers and never buying anything instore, so didn't get a cake voucher the following quarter.

flissfloss65 · 04/03/2019 23:13

I like the £5 voucher for your birthday from Paperchase and Ikea. No previous spend needed.

ParkaPerson · 04/03/2019 23:14

Paperchase is good. I seem to get a fiver off quite regularly and you also get free coffee

Boots is especially good if you join the family club- 10 rather than 4 points per pound for every kid related thing you buy. I quite often wait for their sales and get baby clothes - they're nice quality and the points rack up really fast.

TowandaForever · 05/03/2019 06:58

@TheBitterBoy

That would tally up with how I shop because I don't spend a lot as a carer and the nearest John Lewis store is about 90 mins away.

rillette · 05/03/2019 14:28

Nectar linked to ebay, credit card and use in Sainsbury's. DH racks up points on Sainsbury's fuel, he has about £30 worth.

I keep scanning my TK Maxx treasure card in store even though it's one of the most useless cards ever. I won a £5 voucher from it last Christmas but that's it.

M&S Sparks is rubbish.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 05/03/2019 14:45

Only ones I use and seem to get points on are Boots and Waterstones.

The nectar expired because I didn't use it for a while when I used a different shop. I did try to get a new one but it never arrived and now I'm 'meh'.

Useless ones are off the top of my head are Matalan and Monsoon. Just get loads of bumf through the door and no actual discount when you want to use the card.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 05/03/2019 14:52

Sainsburys nectar card points

Superdrug: I get £1 every so often and it's cheaper than Boots to start with

Boots is good but they are more expensive than Superdrug so don't tend to buy things there

Coop used to be great when I got points for my energy bills but Ofgem put a stop to that.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 05/03/2019 14:52

I get £1 off every often
