Loyalty cards that are actually worth getting?

GunpowderGelatine · 04/03/2019 16:34

I seem to have about 25 loyalty cards in my purse but the only ones I think are worth having are Boots and Body Shop where you actually get money/vouchers to spend in store, and Subway where it's very easy and quick to get enough points for a free sandwich (I only buy 2 or 3 before getting a free sub).

M&S Sparks card is useless - 15p off a donut? Wow. Thanks Hmm and I'm not even sure what a Matalan card is for because I've never seen any points or offers from it.

What other cards are worth/not worth getting?

Also Costa, doesn't take new too long to build up enough points for a free coffee.

Arkengarthdale · 04/03/2019 17:38

Waitrose for the free coffee and a newspaper at the weekend. also Booths in the north for free coffee and papers. Co op for money to spend in store. Tesco for money off vouchers as well as cash back to spend in store. We have a Tesco credit card so we get points every time we use it so we get hundreds of pounds a year to spend in Tesco. Nectar similar with Sainsbury's and BP petrol stations

DelurkingAJ · 04/03/2019 17:50

Waterstones...free books every so often. John Lewis for the random vouchers, Waitrose for the free coffee and coffee and cake vouchers, Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s (I’d shop there anyway as that’s the choice locally), Boots.

M&S - DH picked some jumpers for DMIL for Xmas...I cheerfully said ‘let’s check m Sparks card’ and amazingly had a 20% off clothing voucher. So with a little luck!

Local coffee shop ones.

Matalan near me definitely makes you get a card if you haven't got one (even now - couple of weeks ago had to hand mine over for dd to buy a few bits Confused )

scrappydappydoo · 04/03/2019 18:00

I’m a sucker for a loyalty card. The ones I use most frequently are:
Tesco - we spend points on everything - meals out, days out, hotel stays, airport parking etc
Nectar - Normally get good till receipts and vouchers or use points in their 25% off clothes
Superdrug - good offers on everyday stuff
The works - I work with kids and their craft stuff is good value so to have a voucher every so often is nice

ChicCroissant · 04/03/2019 18:02

Tesco is the best, Waitrose, Costa - and surprisingly, KFC, which gives me a fiver off fairly frequently even though DD is the only one that has any!

We also use McD's as a drive-through cafe fairly frequently and save the stickers for free coffee (can't use it in the drive-through IIRC though).

I do have a Nectar card but it is so slow to collect points ....

Mabelface · 04/03/2019 18:03

Boots and Superdrug. In boots this weekend, with advantage card offers and the voucher they were giving out, I got a £25 moisturiser and a lippie for £12.50.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 04/03/2019 18:03

Tesco used to be amazing.

There's no way we could have done 99.%of any zoo day's out, Warwick castle, Longleat.... travel without Tesco ( tower of London)

I have about 60 of nectar points but not sure what to do with them however I do like the fact that you get points vouchers too buy the things you buy in Sainsbury's

Jsmith99 · 04/03/2019 18:05

John Lewis credit card. I use it for everything, pay it off in full every month and harvest the loyalty points. I get around £100 in JL / Waitrose vouchers per year.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 04/03/2019 18:05

Waitrose used too be good when you could choose about 10 items to get money off.

Unfortunately they have canceled that now so you get nothing.

CakeNinja · 04/03/2019 18:08

I only have a Clubcard and a nectar card and only ever really use either supermarkets to get petrol. I use ocado who don’t have a loyalty scheme.
Never bothered with any of the others and I hate cluttering up my purse with cards.
I use my clubcard points to get the dds tickets to Thorpe Park and other stuff like that but I don’t accumulate many due to rarely shopping there. I think my nectar card must have tonnes of points on it - can you redeem points on the cost of petrol?

itbemay1 · 04/03/2019 18:13

Co-op Card is really good if you shop there anyway, I ended up with £40 to spend at the end of last year and i only pop in for bread/milk essentials.

M&S sparks came up trumps this weekend when DH bought a jacket and 2 pairs of jeans and we got 20% off.

When DCs were small the boots card was good but I don't shop there much anymore.

HappyBumbleBee · 04/03/2019 18:13

I save up my tesco club card vouchers and use them for ferry tickets. Every euro or pound in tesco vouchers is worth 4times the amount in ferry travel.
I've been saving for the last year and will have enough to cover ferry this summer to and from the UK with a cabin.
That and my Costa coffee card are the only main ones I use really. (save points on Costa and once saved enough can get free coffee etc) x

itbemay1 · 04/03/2019 18:13

Tesco club card is only used linked to mobile phone contract and I get a £2.50 voucher once in a while

PrivateIsles · 04/03/2019 18:14

Sirzy yes I think it's a tenner off in Waterstones with the collect 10 stamps card. But they also have a loyalty card with points that you can use if you spend less than £10 (as you only get a stamp for every £10 spent). And you can use the points as part payment for something. It's a pretty good scheme I reckon (as these things go).

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 04/03/2019 18:18

Happy humble bee

How much is that for ferry and cabin

Slowslowlavaflow · 04/03/2019 18:21

I have a Tesco clubcard for British Airways Executive Club points, Boots as we shop there often and the points add up really fast(also receive lots of vouchers throughout the year), and Nandos for the free chicken. My nectar is unused as we moved and no longer have a Sainsburys nearby, but remember it being extremely worthwhile when we shopped at Sainsburys.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 04/03/2019 18:24

My neighbour is a voucher queen and always seems to have money off something or another. She rates the Sparks card, but the only stuff it ever seems to offer me is frozen desserts. Money off clothes this week, but absolutely nothing I wanted to buy. There’s no point in saving money if you’re spending it on something you don’t want or need in the first place.

Giraffey1 · 04/03/2019 18:35

I think most of the cards are money worth having if you shop there loads. For this reason, the only ones that work for me are Tesco Clubcard, Nectar and my Boots Advantage. I also haVe a Hobbycraft card which gives me a fiver off stuff when it’s my birthday.

EssexGurl · 04/03/2019 18:52

Costa - points add up to free coffee!

HappyBumbleBee · 04/03/2019 18:54

Budsbegginingspringinsight
Around 430 euro. (ish). I've 105 euro in clubcard vouchers so I'll only have to put about 20euro towards it 😉

MrsCasares · 04/03/2019 19:39

I got £15 off a pair of boots in m&s using my sparks card last year, so I was well happy.

Just bought my hearing aids from boots costing £3,000. At least I’ll get some points on my bootscard!!!

QueenArseClangers · 04/03/2019 19:49

Co-op’s membership card is the best one for me tbh.
You don’t get useless points to spend on selected things but 5% if your shopping bill back in cash and 1% extra gets put into a local community fund which gets handed out to local groups and causes (our Women’s Aid shelter got several thousand from just one store).
I nip into our Co-op for bits (not a full shop) and got about £100 back last year!

I also like the Co-op ethos and the fact that ‘we’ are the shareholders.

Love my nectar card! You can spend nectar points in argos now to!
Tesco card and morrisons are also pretty good! I changed the settings on my morrisons card so that it doesn’t print the voucher automatically and saves them up until your ready to redeem them. I forgot i had changed it then enquired in xmas week as to why i had no vouchers and found i had £25 saved which was handy.x

Whitelisbon · 04/03/2019 20:12

We've got a dobbies card - £10 a year and you get 2 free hot drinks every month, along with random discount days.
We go to dobbies at least once a week though - I like the coffee, and dd loves the fishes, so we get our money's worth out of it.
