Loyalty cards that are actually worth getting?

GunpowderGelatine · 04/03/2019 16:34

I seem to have about 25 loyalty cards in my purse but the only ones I think are worth having are Boots and Body Shop where you actually get money/vouchers to spend in store, and Subway where it's very easy and quick to get enough points for a free sandwich (I only buy 2 or 3 before getting a free sub).

M&S Sparks card is useless - 15p off a donut? Wow. Thanks Hmm and I'm not even sure what a Matalan card is for because I've never seen any points or offers from it.

What other cards are worth/not worth getting?

Superdrug. I tend to shop there more often than Boots so my points build quicker. Also they'll let you part pay with your points which Boots don't.

Lungelady · 04/03/2019 20:27

I get a lot of Nectar points. Recently got a Sainsbury's credit card as I get £37 eorth of points by using the card 10 times in 2 months and spending £35.
I had £150 on Nectar card to spend last November...used it for wine.

Buds Waitrose used too be good when you could choose about 10 items to get money off.

Unfortunately they have canceled that now so you get nothing.

Yes it's annoying that Waitrose have cancelled the Pick your Own but you should be getting vouchers through in the post instead which is supposed to be based on your regular purchases. Pick your Own was still better though.

Matalan email with discounts sometimes - eg £5 off £25, £10 off £50.

Or a percentage.

Worth having the card to get those I reckon.

fblake · 04/03/2019 20:35

Tesco, Superdrug and Co-Op are good 😊

FrozenMargarita17 · 04/03/2019 20:36

I like a Caffè Nero app/card - I've had many free coffees from them, and around Christmas they have 'crackers' you can open which meant I got even more free coffees!

QuestionableMouse · 04/03/2019 20:37

@ChicCroissant you can 100% use the loyalty cards in the drive through. Just say you'd like a loyalty hot drink and hand it over when you pay.

I only have Morrisons, which isn't too bad. You get £5 for every 5000 points, and for me they add up pretty fast because I use the petrol stations.

Betsy86 · 04/03/2019 20:37

Oh yes superdrug totally forgot that little gem!! I only shop online with them but it is fab x

Lwmommy · 04/03/2019 20:41

Boots, superdrug, tesco and Caffe nero.

Just bought a new washing machine from boots so thats another £9.00 in points. I have the app too and use the double points and spend * get * points coupons.

Roffle2019 · 04/03/2019 20:41

Boots, especially now that they do a 10% student discount!

Roffle2019 · 04/03/2019 20:43

Yes it's annoying that Waitrose have cancelled the Pick your Own but you should be getting vouchers through in the post instead which is supposed to be based on your regular purchases.

Still waiting for that to happen - Waitrose now send me vouchers for £18 off a £120 spend. Why on earth I would do a £120 spend I have no idea - never have before, never will! Bring back the Pick Your Own - it was really good!

DrWhy · 04/03/2019 20:45

Boots, Tesco, JoJo Maman Bebe, anywhere you go regularly where your get your 10th hot drink free.
I’d forgotten all about dobbies, thanks for the reminder!

Michaelbaubles · 04/03/2019 20:48

If you get the McDonald’s app and order a hot drink through it, you get a “virtual” coffee card stamp - 6 of those gets you a free hot drink. But the cops also have the original cards/stamps on so you can collect those as well! Double bubble!

MillytantForceit · 04/03/2019 20:48

If you don't want to carry all your cards, you can use the Stocard app on your phone to store them all.

Also, with Nectar, keep an eye on the website for regular special offers.

SnapesGreasyHair · 04/03/2019 20:49

I have a card for Game which gives money off purchases. Handy when all the kids want ps4 stuff for xmas

Moominfan · 04/03/2019 20:50

Boots has really good points but I just find that other stores are much cheaper. Body shop I'd agree but the quality of products seems to be nose diving. Nectar I seem to take forever to gain anything. Morrison's add up really quickly

SukisKettle · 04/03/2019 20:58

@GiantKitten I find that about 2 days after I've spent a significant amount at Matalan, I get the discount vouchers about 2 days later. I never seem to get them any other time. Perhaps it's a huge coincidence but it's odd. Have you found this?

fussychica · 04/03/2019 20:59

Waitrose free coffee with any purchase. Free newspaper if your shop with the newspaper exceeds £10. I also get vouchers for 20% off my shopping over a certain amount on a fairly regular basis.

SukisKettle · 04/03/2019 21:02

@MillytantForceit that's a brilliant app! Didn't know that existed. Thank you!

WellTidy · 04/03/2019 21:10

Waitrose, as I get a free newspaper as I am always spending at least the minimum needed. It is where I do my weekly shop. I get money off vouchers very occasionally. I’m talking a voucher for £1 off strawberries and similar.

In contrast, my friend very rarely shops there and she gets sent amazing discount vouchers like three lots of spend £40 get £8 off. She gives them, and her Waitrose card, to me, and I use them. And then she gets sent more vouchers to incentivise her to keep shopping there. Whereas Waitrose know I’m a sure thing so send me next to nothing.

UrbaneSprawl · 04/03/2019 21:22

Co-op definitely - like Queen says the 1% for the community is great too (as long as it’s the ‘blue co-op’ in your area).

Not “loyalty” as such, but the Bite Card (apply online) is good if you travel by train a lot - it’s free and gives a 10% discount on food/drink from the places that are run by SSP in rail stations (BK, Upper Crust etc.)

Dothehappydance · 04/03/2019 21:23

I am generally of the opinion that anything is better than nothing. My main shopping is at Sainsburys so that builds up nicely, I got a steam mop lately with my points. Tesco we have a mobile contract, get a lot of petrol points and do the odd top up shop/bits and pieces shops there and it really does mount up.

I should get a co-op one really, I actually get quite a lot from there from time to time.

RancidOldHag · 04/03/2019 21:25

I like the co-op too, and the %age to nominated charity is part of the reason.

Also it's nearby and it's where I pop for things between proper shops, so it does roll up to an amount worth spending fairly quickly

Happynow001 · 04/03/2019 21:37

Roffle. I'd suggest contacting Waitrose Customer Services (details Online) with ur Waitrose loyalty card number to check where your vouchers are. They are really helpful.

Moominfan · 04/03/2019 21:42

Michealbaubals i didn't know that! Made my day
