I’m weaning off cocodamol after years and my constipation is just dreadful. I need to go several tunes a day and when I try it’s just tiny malteser size bits! Sorry tmi. Anyway, please give me your best advice as to how to have a good clear out!?

Only started that this year
Otherwise I haven’t been too bad in the past

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2019 17:56

@Dowser how ripe are your bananas? The hard unripe ones can cause constipation and ripe ones the opposite

Dowser · 19/09/2019 18:36

About to have my 3rd movicol sachet today
I think I suffer from incomplete evacuation
Although there’s none at the moment

Dowser · 19/09/2019 18:38

Medium ripe..I normally like them quite brown though.
I last passed anything tues night
Not that it was that much though

EggysMom · 19/09/2019 18:41

I found that a litre of pineapple juice, drunk in one evening, had a rather "cleansing" effect Grin

SallyWD · 19/09/2019 18:45

A very big bowl of all bran every morning

museumsandgalleries666 · 19/09/2019 18:48

Kiwi fruit
Celery
Plenty of water
Exercise

frozenonions · 19/09/2019 19:08

This thread is hilarious Grin

It reminded me of the famous 'shitter tea' thread, does anyone else remember this gem?!

What I made my daughter have:

A smoothie made entirely of Kiwi fruit, and a small amount of ice.

What works for me:

Coffee and a sausage roll.

I used the movicol disimpaction regime once - the dose is on the packet, it's something like 8 sachets in a big glass of water, but please do check - it shifted what nothing else could.

Dowser · 19/09/2019 21:06

Thank you mould
I’ll take two at bedtime
I’ve never experienced anything as bad as this

I think I’ll stay away from the Senna after reading how painful some mnetters found it and sticky with movicol and ,ayre a large dose of castor oil

Dowser · 20/09/2019 14:54

I’m so glad I resurrected this thread, especially for the advice re movicol which I just happened to have in the house.

I threw everything at it yesterday
2g of Vit c
Syrup of figs
4 Senna
2 movicol through the day and two together last night
Lots of magnesium

Sooo, next question
When do I know I’ve got rid of 28 feet’s worth?
How do I make it stop
I’m bored now and I’ve been sat on the loo for an hour

Dowser · 20/09/2019 14:56

Oh and do I need to take movicol tonight
Oh decisions, decisions

sueelleker · 20/09/2019 19:07

Black coffee or grapefruit juice does it for me.

PeterthePainter · 20/09/2019 19:35

Half a bag of dried apricots. Never fails.

JingsMahBucket · 20/09/2019 19:50

@Dowser have you tried walking more? This genuinely helps because it gets your guts moving as well. Try talking a walk after dinner or other meals along with drinking water.

Squiff70 · 20/09/2019 19:50

A full packet of liquorice Flyers!

Dowser · 15/10/2019 13:02

I’m on senakot and now

Dowser · 15/10/2019 13:02

Movicol

lolaflores · 15/10/2019 13:07

Stomach massage...the farting is epic but it got stuff going. On YouTube.
. I use codeine and it is awful when it gets seriously stuck up there. Massage
Strong black coffee (and a ciggie if you can get a lyngfull or two down, just for added oompph)
Dates
Suppositories
Ducolax stool softener.
Hot water and lemon
Cycle your legs in the air
Some squats like you are weeding the flower bed
May take an hour or so.
Failing that...doctor

justilou1 · 15/10/2019 13:23

If you are really backed up, don’t add bulking agents (fibre) as it will make things worse! Drink lots of water and take magnesium supplements which will help soften the top part of the blockage. You will need to soften the blockage from the bottom end too. You can do this with warm water through an old-fashioned bag and tube enema that you buy from a chemist. It’s probably gentlest and the easiest solution for you.

lolaflores · 15/10/2019 18:05

Any output OP? Hope you have got some movement. I advise an evacuation partner for the worst of it. Both my girls were small and quick deliveries...I am ashamed to say I have had bigger and more problematic poos. Once I spent the whole day on the loo till my mum stepped in with perianal massage after which I blacked out.
