I’m weaning off cocodamol after years and my constipation is just dreadful. I need to go several tunes a day and when I try it’s just tiny malteser size bits! Sorry tmi. Anyway, please give me your best advice as to how to have a good clear out!?

2 dulcolax and a litre of apple juice. Don't go out.

Pretty much this. And don't be fooled into thinking it is just wind, it won't be.

An orange eaten on an empty stomach last thing at night or a strong coffee first thing . Again on an empty stomach.

SurgeHopper · 01/03/2019 19:18

A pint of strong coffee.
Homemade veg and lentil soup.
Homemade apple sauce.

Failing all that, a full pineapple.

Coffee.
Also I find eating soup everyday helps to get you back to normal.

Prune juice is fab! Also Califig ( from supermarkets). I find red meat makes me go pretty well the next day so have a nice big steak. I feel your pain as I really suffer with constipation.

Ooh so many replies, thank you! And lots of ideas to try. I have a box of movicol in the cupboard that was prescribed to ds a while ago, maybe I’ll have some of that, and I’ll order some suppositories to come tomorrow. And throw some prune juice in there an’ all

Am I alright to take a laxative while on meditation?

Glycerine suppositories are not that great tbh ,I have a child with chronic constipation , he has bisocodyl suppositories they.are a softener and also give you the urge to go they generally work really well with him.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 01/03/2019 19:48

I also say glycerine suppositories, they work within the hour by drawing water into your bowel and making a nice bit of liquid for hard stool to slip out with. Never failed me

RoseMartha · 01/03/2019 21:38

Greenish tinge bananas. Not too green otherwise very unripe. I always remember green for go brown for no. Meaning brown bananas constipate you.
Prunes or apricots
Fresh fruit salad

OverwateredCheeseplant · 01/03/2019 21:38

@thefuckfacewhisperer any particular brand?

PickAChew · 01/03/2019 21:41

You can just pick up the glycerine ones off the shelf in boots or somewhere.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 01/03/2019 21:48

I just use Boots own make

Overdose of sugar free sweets

HowlsMovingBungalow · 01/03/2019 21:51

Castor Oil.

Be warned, it works quickly.

Livingthedream12345 · 01/03/2019 21:59

Water melon and loads of water.

lljkk · 01/03/2019 22:02

buckets of water
buckets of caffeine
5km run
buckets of water
lots of high fibre food (esp. fruit & veg)
another 5km run...

safariboot · 01/03/2019 22:04

Infamously, Haribo sugar free gummy bears.

SpanielEars070 · 01/03/2019 22:05

Diabetic sweets or chocolate. Trust me, they work. Just don't go far from the toilet or go out, and you'll be fine Grin

As a preventative, you need to eat more fibre but that won't help initially.

mineofuselessinformation · 01/03/2019 22:08

Very definitely glycerin suppositories to help the bottom end - otherwise when you clear what's sitting up there you will have an explosion!

HedgePlastic · 01/03/2019 22:12

Coffee and water!

DrCristinaYang · 01/03/2019 22:45

After birth I suffered terribly from constipation, had all the usual remedies from the doctors.
The only thing that worked for me was a diet tea called ‘slimmatee’ from Holland and Barratts won’t go into it here but let’s just say it was extremely effective Grin
