Is a holiday abroad doable on this budget? Never been.

I have 4 children and we have never been abroad together. I've never booked a holiday other than UK seaside ones at Haven in my life.

Utterly clueless.

I've never been able to afford one.
I have a little more money coming in.

Is it possible to get abroad for a week for 2 adults 4 kids on about 2500?

We don't drive so no car hire. Just somewhere warm with a pool and ideally beach.

DDs would be in Yr 9 and 10 so would have to be in holidays.

What's the best time to go?

Feeling overwhelmed already.

Children over 12 tend to be charged similar to adults on packages. If you could drive you could sc in
France on that budget.

LIZS · 24/02/2019 15:40

Oh see you don't drive. Maybe Spain if you can diy cheap flights and sc accommodation. Fly midweek to avoid highest fares.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/02/2019 15:41

Yes it is. Four of us have gone to the South of France in Summer hols for £1100 in 2013 (Siesta coach and apartment) food extra.
We went to Spain in May half term 2014 with Shearings, coach and all inclusive Thomas Cook Platinum 4 star hotel for £1300. It was a wonderful hotel with kids clubs (Golden Bahia)

That was 5 years ago but it is doable for your budget as I checked recently myself.

Top tips - Siesta do lots of deals (first child free) if you can book in advance. Shearings have sales.

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 15:42

Eurgh I can't do a coach. I did it in High school to Spain and I wanted to die Sad

How much would I need to save then?

Sorry it was a (then) Thomson Platinum 4/5 star hotel.

Mine are over 12 and if you visit Shearings and Siesta you can search.

May is cheaper and October too, but yes you can get summer breaks in the 6 weeks on your budget.

Finfintytint · 24/02/2019 15:44

Ive just done a very quick search with On The Beach website. I chose costa brava in August for 7 days room only and this came in at £2300. This is without transfers or baggage though.
I reckon you could get it lower with proper searching.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/02/2019 15:46

The coaches were between 27-33 hours.

The Siesta ones are decked out with videos on each seat. The kids loved it. There's also a Disney sleepover option to break up the journey.

It was the only way we could afford to go abroad - we had the best time!

We went by train a couple of years ago to a campsite in the South of France and it came in just under 3k.

LostInShoebiz · 24/02/2019 15:50

Go on the Eurostar then somewhere near Lille?

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 15:51

They really wnat to go on a plane. That's a big part of it.

If I sort out my budget I may be able to stretch it

Yes. Ivee just booked a more expensive one to Turkey be with Thomas cook by paying £0 deposit and spreading the cost over 5 months if a direct debit. Here is one on your budget and you can do the same.

Lwmommy · 24/02/2019 15:54

Should be doable for £2500 for greek islands.

WHat are the ages of your children and where would you be travelling from?

titchy · 24/02/2019 15:57

Which airport and does budget include spending money?

titchy · 24/02/2019 15:58

Oh and do you all have passports or does that need to come out of the budget?

muddledmidget · 24/02/2019 16:00

How late in August would you be able to go? And which airports would be accessible? Ive just had a look at Tui guessing the age of your children as 15,14,12 and 9 and they have some all inc deals the last week in August for total of 2700 from Gatwick. Looked at all inc as with 4 children budgeting might be easier if you add on a bit more to the hotel and don't have to worry about drinks and ice creams!

Villanellesproudmum · 24/02/2019 16:02

You could look at Jet2holidays, I find them reasonable for flights, holidays etc. The most reasonable place I have been in holiday was Croatia, seems more popular now. Portugal, Cyprus can be reasonable. Turkey is cheap although not somewhere I’ve been.

WhatTheNightBrings · 24/02/2019 16:03

If you can budget a bit more, it'll be doable.

We've got a holiday booked in October, to mainland Spain - a one bed apartment and a 2 bed apartment. 7 of us - 3 adults, three teens and a child. £3.5k all inclusive.

splishandsplash · 24/02/2019 16:22

Have a look on first choice as they are all inclusive! Majorca in August seems to be cheaper, found one for 2 adults and 4 children for £3500 I know that's over budget but could you stretch?

SuziQ10 · 24/02/2019 16:36

The cheapest I've seen for any all inclusive during school hols is £450 per person. There may also be extra things to pay for at the end of the booking process like checked baggage.

You would be unlikely to get anything nice for this budget. Have you considered a villa? That might be nicer and you could book flights separately.

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 17:02

What are the fines for taking them outside of school times?

£60 per child?
So £240?

TearingUpMyHeart · 24/02/2019 17:05

Do you have passports? If not, that will be a big chunk of the budget

Invisimamma · 24/02/2019 17:07

Do you have passports? It will be about £500 just for those.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 24/02/2019 17:08

Ours fine £60 PER parent per child so £480
A package holiday should be doable for your budget i think. Which uk airport do you need to fly from?

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 17:09

No we don't have passports either.

I think it's impossible :(

I do. But the kids don't.
