I have 4 children and we have never been abroad together. I've never booked a holiday other than UK seaside ones at Haven in my life.

Utterly clueless.

I've never been able to afford one.
I have a little more money coming in.

Is it possible to get abroad for a week for 2 adults 4 kids on about 2500?

We don't drive so no car hire. Just somewhere warm with a pool and ideally beach.

DDs would be in Yr 9 and 10 so would have to be in holidays.

What's the best time to go?

Feeling overwhelmed already.

I don't know the ages of your children or where you want to fly from but have a play about on travel republic for the end of August.

If you give me a bit more info I would have a look around.

If you do 3 star half board or self catering then it's doable, all inclusive might be pushing it though

WombatChocolate · 24/02/2019 17:54

Are you able to book all the bits separately which is often cheaper, or are you only able to cope with booking a package? Realise package is easier if you’ve not done it before but often costs more.

Def look at May half term as often cheaper.

AustrianSnow · 24/02/2019 17:55

The last week in August is cheaper too and also looking at indirect flights.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/02/2019 17:57

So I've put random details into the Tui website: made up ages for your four kids, had you flying on 9th August from Manchester, and you can get a week in Benidorm half board coming in under budget.

So it's definitely doable if you're prepared to look, but you seem a bit defeatist about it all!

Jackshouse · 24/02/2019 18:00

May half term is often cheaper or you are willing to book ahead for summer 2020 then you will find better deals.

Just found this

Sometimes it’s worth flying from Liverpool or Birmingham as the cost saved makes the travel worth it.

justaweeone · 24/02/2019 18:19

Book it as late as possible in the summer hols and fly from Scotland so you are actually returning when the Scottish schools have started their Autumn term.
I looked at this a few years ago when I was on a limited budget however managed last minute cheap flights from London.

justaweeone · 24/02/2019 18:19

When do you children start back for the term?

WombatChocolate · 24/02/2019 18:21

Agree that you have to be prepared to put some time into internet hunting - the stuff is out there but you have to be prepared to fiddle about with dates, locations etc to find something that works for you. A couple of dedicated evenings can do it....or enlist one of the teenagers and tell them they’re looking at £300 max per head and see what they can find - that teletext site has hols for less than that - they’re often in busy Spanish resorts but they prob fulfill your criteria of a hotel with beach and flight. They might be full of Brits loading their all inclusive plates and boozing on cheap included alcohol.....but lots of people love it, and as long as you know what you’re getting and don’t expect luxury for that money, you could all have a great time.

The thing that gets me with holiday reviews is when people get a week all inclusive for £249 and then complain the food wasn’t lavish or it was too foreign, or people there behaved in a way they didn’t like - if it’s v cheap, you do have to accept some of those things and it might be the equivalent of a Sun £9.50 holiday in Spain. Nothing wrong with those holidays at all, but don’t expect luxury.

.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 24/02/2019 18:25

Scrap all package holiday ideas and look at flights separately , own accmd Etc

May have to give this year a miss or jump on easy jet flights when they come out for October.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 24/02/2019 18:27

Look at campsites too. Loads.... near beaches with pool etc.

BonnesVacances · 24/02/2019 18:29

Could you go in May half term? That brings the cost down a lot and Southern Europe is plenty warm enough then. We usually budget £1,000 for 2+2 plus food at that time of year, so should be easily done on your budget with an extra 2 DC. I'd book flights for 6 then find a 3 bed villa and an airport transfer for 6.

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 18:32

Sorry. I don't mean to be defeatist.

The reason we haven't been is because I'm on disability benefit for MH issues so it is quite overwhelming but every year they as to go on holiday like their friends and I guess I have to suck it up and just do it.

I do really appreciate the suggestions.

I would look and see what all inclusive deals you can find, with 4 children the snacks, ice creams and drinks along with meals will add up over the week. An all inclusive will cost more initially (although your parents offering to house two of your children will help) but it will mean you don’t need money when you’re there.

You will find something, just may take a bit of time and effort!

Notageek · 24/02/2019 18:33

Wildcard suggestion ...How about Jersey ? You can fly, don’t need a passport and they speak English so there is minimal culture shock. There is french twist though so you’d get to see a bit of something different. The bus sevice is also brilliant and there is loads to do like castles, beach, war tunnels, zoo etc etc .

Tomtontom · 24/02/2019 18:35

I don't think you're being defeatist, just that you don't want to spend all that money on something you're not going to enjoy. Can you set aside some time to search when you've got some quiet time? As a guideline, use TripAdvisor for reviews and don't go for anything with then that four out of five (on the traveller ratings, not the stars).

Jenala · 24/02/2019 18:36

Op how old are the children?

Jenala · 24/02/2019 18:47

I've searched with all older children - above 12. May be cheaper if some are younger.

Onthebeach is a good website - you can search by entire country e.g. all Spain. You can select multiple dates so I have searched all of August up til about the 24th. You can also search by board basis.

Here is one - b&b basis near a beach

This price range won't be amazing hotels etc but I'm sure you can get a holiday from that amount of money.

Jenala · 24/02/2019 18:51

This has an ok TripAdvisor rating - £2232 half board.

If you go on TUI website put in date like 23 August for 7 nights there are some available for this price - I did Spain and Greece and both coming up with options for you plus 4 kids for £2,000 for a week SC. Do check out reviews though TUI kick out the worst. If doing a cheap AI you need to check food reviews carefully. TUI will transfer you from airport to hotel.
